    • Yeah that was slightly different. He was covering her mat leave and when she came back she asked the BBC for a move to a lesser slot, so it all fell into place nicely for all parties. And for her specially as she did a long stint on weeekends and then covered weekdays as well, covering for Mills, Moyles, Whiley, Cotton, and became the main "supply teacher" and then transitioning to R2 doing the same there, and did stints of covering Mat leave on daytime R1.  When this change happened in 2003/4 it would have all been negoiated through agents, in fact they all are so the DJs I would think are bound contractually not to discuss it with each other, cetianly not while negotiations are ongoing and probably afterwards as well. So yes that time it worked in Scott's favour that a weekday slot came up, he was already covering it so just took it over. He was clearly pissed at the BBC in 2012 when they announced him and Greg were to swap though, he did a cryptic tweet at the time.
    • Well said, yes totally that. There is no betrayal gone on, yet some on the facebook group are making it out to be that and saying she should have declined the offer as a matter of principle. In this game principle doesn't matter. Remember how Moyles campainged on air on R1 for months for them to give hom breakfast when Sara wasn't doing so well at it. Publically on air saying he should be given the slot.  As I said earlier, yes it is very sad what has happened to Scott. I will note that he has not disputed it, saying he is fighting it, nor has he said that he was "wrongly dismissed" which is what you would expect from someone who feels they have been treated badly. Privately there maybe a "claim" and settlement to happen, which is in his interest to see himself right financially, but the raw facts are people threatening to boycott or complain are really not going to get him reinstated, that ship has sailed. As has Scott's time at the BBC. A very sad way to end such a career and them having to make a change to their peak time lineup when they wern't expecting to have to for at least 5-8 years.  What it has done is given Sara a "new" lease of life. She was by no means stale on teatime, but she had been there for 7 years, and maybe in 2027/8 they would have had a shuffle and she would have been moved elsewhere. This new role has given her another ten to fifteen years of life at Radio 2 I reckon. We all predicted Scott would do ten years at the slot, remember Zoe only jacked it in for personal reasons, there was no desire to "get rid" or move her on, so it is feasable she could have gone on another 4-5 years in the slot and Scott or Sara never getting the opportunity to take it. With these sad events, the "good" outcome for Sara is a new show, one she can do for 8-12 years taking her into her 60s if she desired to and probably to retirement.  I noticed this change has not been thrust at us as much as when Scott or even Zoe got the gig, or Evans in that matter, and Sara only briefly mentioned it on her show yesterday. Toned down as you said @xxladybarefootxx I don't think it will as much of a glamorous transition as when Scott took it over with him being photo'd with Zoe and being on her show as a guest and all and that is all down to the circumstances. The Beeb will want to install Sara as quickly as possible, with as little drama as possible to then move on from this.  The show is currently featureless, with no real format and Gary just bringing his take on it with some of his SOT80s features and the usual roster of guests coming in. It needs to go back to being a breakfast show, and Sara will do that, and do it well. Good on her and well deserved.
    • It's now been approved, there's a belief it won't have a significant enough impact on commercial radio. https://radiotoday.co.uk/2026/04/ofcom-clears-bbc-6-music-stream-for-launch/
    • Poor Sara, social media can be the worst place sometimes.  I was listening to her show and I personally thought she sounded nervous about talking about it and it seemed like she toned it down quite a bit. She certainly didn't come across as being over the top or gloating or boasting at all. As a lot of us have said, the circumstances are unfortunate - nobody would have wanted to get a better job by way of their friend being sacked.  But she was right to be offered the job and it's for many people the total dream job.  Someone was going to be the new Breakfast host so I really don't understand how it can be seen as a betrayal of Scott in any way.
    • Jason Manford in for Paddy McGuinness on Sunday 3rd May. I think it's his hosting debut outside of popping up on the radio coverage for Big Night Of Musicals?
    • I mean let's not forget Scott effectively took over from Sara when she was on maternity leave at Radio 1, when she decided not to return to daytimes, which boosted him into afternoons. I'm sure it was amicable but who knows what was discussed.
    • Seeing lots of comments this morning about "how can Sara be so upbeat about it" and "how can she celebrate when she has almost stolen a good frinds job"  People are so warped. Yes, it's sad, yes it wasn't expected, and yes I don't agree with them sacking Scott, but, it happened, it's done, he is gone (he has said as much "i am no longer contracted to work with the BBC") and is likely never coming back, so they had to give sdomeone the role, and that someone is one of their most competent presenters who probably should have got the job when Zoe quit and was overlooked. Why can't she be happy? she has just been given one of the biggest jobs in european broadcasting and for sure the biggest in the UK.  From the clinical point of view only, why should they not celebrate the appointment because "it might upset Scott" of course it will upset Scott, it was his job, but we can't be relling for him forever, people get fired daily for things, and a lot for much less than bringing their employers reputation into disripute (which is what seems happened here) so why can't Sara celebrate???  People speculating that Sara would have called Scott before hand to discuss it... maybe, but knowing the BBC I suspect all staff are under an NDA not to speak to him and if they do they would be sacked themselves. Plus from what I gather he is "off grid" at the moment. Sad circumstances, but an appointment that is genuinely deserved, and the right one in these turblient times.
