    • 23rd June Jerry in for Jamie with Katie on Going Home.
    • So now we know she's beginning on July 6th. https://unofficialmills.co.uk/2026/06/sara-cox-confirms-start-date/
    • I very much agree with lots of your points. Vick and Jamie I do agree time has come for them to either go to weekends or accept a role as a contributor/sidekick and maybe cover if want to remain in radio.    Dean and Vicky - To be fair replacing Scott is an impossible situation - ideally you want to be taking over a slot to improve and build. This wasn’t going to happen so understand Aled giving a couple of upcoming presenters exposure and experience before Matt and Mollie upgrade. Similar to Greg bring upgrade on Grimmy but wouldn’t say an upgrade on Moyles.    Maya Jama and Danny Beard didn’t work out I agree - some celeb hires work but most don’t imo. Jordan - out of his control but maybe they could have added an extra slot in between breakfast and live lounge so Greg had a late breakfast? Money dictates though sadly. Alice left by choice and Dev tbh at the time was lingering around earlies and weekend for years and I don’t think there was anywhere for him to go. Fridays i believe was probably a budgetary thing also back at the start some relatively big names were getting minimum air time with the likes of Scott being there plus Matt Edmondson, Jordan etc just doing 2 days.   Also the start of presenters being encouraged not to just rely on Radio 1 for their career and it probably helped them stay relevant and attract new audiences hence the Jamie and Vick farce. Greg had a lot of Fridays off iirc before the 3 day weekend.   Also weekends don’t seem to be used for presenters on their way out as in the past anymore so for youngish presenters 2 days these days with reduced budget prob isn’t enough to maintain a lifestyle/image Radio 1 listeners expects. Jordan’s referenced this.  guests - sadly this is a social media/digital age. They would come on to promote themselves and share what they are up to - nowerdays for them a TikTok or insta post/vid reaches a lot more for less effort!
    • I totally agree with you. If Vick & Jamie were genuinely on phased returns to work then I’d be more understanding but they’re both busy with other projects too… TV and podcasting etc. It’s not a good look as it makes the station and its listeners look unimportant. I think there’s real value with them being on the station but if they only want to commit to 1 or 2 days a week then it really should be at weekends.    On the Aled point; it’s interesting because I’ve felt for a while that Aled has been behind some of the worst station decisions of modern times. Besides the management of Going Home, you have the hiring of Dean & Vicky, Maya Jama and Danny Beard, the departures of Jordan, Dev & Alice and the messiest schedules of ANY radio station around (show start & end times, constant churn of new voices and arguably Fridays being part of weekend).   IMO the station is a shell of its former self. It used to provide event listening, and feel warm, personal, fun & familiar. Greg and a small handful of other shows excluded - it’s now a pretty unexciting, uneventful and predictable listen.   Today, you don’t know who you’re gonna get, or whether you’ll even recognise the voices, you never hear any guests outside of the breakfast show or live lounge (which itself doesn’t feel as exciting as it used to), and the only MUST-LISTEN moments are when Greg gets his challenges. This is compared to the golden days of tuning in for Scott Mills the musical, 24 years at the tap end, the real-talk of Annie & Nick on Sunday nights, weekend Live Lounges or Feet up Fridays. You used to get stuff you’d never hear anywhere else. But now it feels like a watered-down, slightly unpolished version of any other station. Which, as a huge radio and R1 fan feels really sad.    What does everyone else think? I know this may not be the right forum thread (sorry - feel free to move this somewhere else Jono) but genuinely interested to know if I’m on my own with this, keen to hear some other opinions and have a friendly discussion.
    • We get it, you don't like it. Clearly audience figures haven't fallen off a cliff else the show wouldn't be on air. There's nothing to say Vick won't appear more regularly once she's fully returned from maternity, and not allowing her time for that would be wrong. As for putting them on a Friday, it's the chart on a Friday so not sure where you're thinking of putting them. Pretty sure Aled isn't ashamed of the show though, albeit he may be sad that you don't listen 'out of protest'.
    • If she wants it, I'm sure she will. But nothing to say she does.
    • 😂 jokes aside though I hope Mollie gets time off
