I do understand the reasoning to put him on Garden leave if he is going to Capital. But it’s like they’re trying to pretend he never existed!

Radio 1's treatment does have a feeling of the scene in Succession where Connor gives a funeral speech about Mo (Lester):

'Jordan North was a man. He worked on Radio 1 for a decade. Listeners enjoyed his shows on Radio 1. When a DJ leaves it is sad'.

But what I don’t understand is that Jordan has a contract until September seems a long time to be off the air

This is where I’m imagining a 6 month break clause in contract. Jordan and Vick started Sept 2021, and if it’s yearly renewals(?) could make now-March possible changeover time if did have a clause. I’m thinking Vick will stay until Sept as it’s currently working for her to dip&out as she does but then we’ll see a schedule overhaul again in the Summer

I suspect it was an open secret but then BBC management decided to axe him when it was all confirmed.

After the Ken Bruce debacle I don’t blame them but very hard for the listeners.

Funny how Chris Stark is giving subtle hints.

yeah because didnt Ken have an on air "rant" about them not letting him go when he wanted to?

I do wonder who will actually want to present Monday’s going home - I can’t imagine it will be an easy show to try and do. The names I suggested yesterday of Arielle and Sam and Danni are already both on earlier in the day (so is Matt) and with Katie being on holiday, the only person I can see doing it is Nat?

Vicky is off so Nat is on with Dean, hence they’ll either move Sam & Danni to drive and put Ore on earlies or just have Vick on her own.

Sam and Danni makes sense - taking Vick/the normal team off air to prepare for what is effectively a new drive show in two weeks time.  Vick on her own on air Monday would be a very difficult position to put her in I think, considering not addressing the news would feel so odd and addressing it is probably not what management want.

I'm sure she could've addressed the news to the point of just talking about the fact that Jordan's left and paying tribute to him. As long as there is no mention of how sudden it was or things like whether Vick knew or not then it shouldn't be shaky territory where management is concerned. Would've been better to have a happy middle so Vick doing this week at least and then a 2 week interim before the new show.

I was gutted when I heard the news yesterday, almost as much as poor Katie sounded. 💔

I grew up close to Rock FM's broadcast area, and although we didn't regularly have Rock on as the signal was poor, sometimes we got in the the car or heard it in shops a bit further from home. I remember hearing Jordan on Rock FM and thinking at the time what a brilliant presenter he was (Mills level of radio brilliance!), so was really pleased when he became the supply teacher on R1, and later given regular shows.

I'll miss him on R1, but not sure if I'll retune from Greg at breakfast if he's on at the same time elsewhere.

Perhaps the bigger shock in yesterday's announcement was who would be Vick's new co-host! My afternoon go-to station might have to be R2 now, for Scott and Sara (and Jo), although the thought of being an R2 regular makes me feel old...

Anyone notice that Matt has already said he’s doing the breakfast show on Monday and Greg isn’t in? Interesting that’s already been decided so early

The wording he used was pressing the buttons, given it’s a challenge day with all the DJ’s in & Greg also has Covid I wouldn’t read too much into that

I reckon a lot happened during that dinner with Arielle, Katie and Vick. It must have been discussed before he went to Aled looking for assurances about his future. Evidently Aled wouldn't offer him those assurances which is why it seems so sudden. It seems a sad mess how it's ended.

Wonder if Katie Thistleton and Arielle Free would be given any reassurance about their careers and that they would be able to be considered for promotions at the station.

    • At least I do not ask stupid questions…😂
    • I suggest you follow the other DJs too if so, you will learn the hardest working will go further 🤣
    • A simple check on his instagram would answer all your questions , he’s on tour with his wife and the team behind his podcast. I suggest anyone to follow the radio presenters, you will learn a lot about their other jobs and work commitments.
    • Where is Jamie? It felt like he was settling in when Vick wasn’t on but he’s not been on since last Tuesday now. They’ve not even mentioned him, in fact they’ve mentioned Jordan more than they’ve mentioned him in the last two days.
    • Scott's show is on the road next week, live from Malmö in Sweden on Wednesday and Friday, ahead of Eurovision. As he's doing the semi final coverage on the TV on Tuesday and Thursday alongside Rylan, Gary Davies sits in for him on those days.
    • I don't feel there's so much overlap between M&M and Scott's shows. M&M is of a similar calibre to Scott & Chris on R1, with genuine laugh out loud moments and usually a show packed full of real interesting content. Scott's R2 show is IMO a shadow of the stuff he did on R1 (not his fault, he's doing exactly what station management want), with music and content to appeal to a much older audience.
    • To be fair, Scott & Chris would've still been fine on Radio 1. It was mentioned at the time that Scott's move was very much on Radio 2's part rather than Radio 1 wanting to move them on. That's the one problem that Radio 2 has, trying to appeal to such a wide demographic.. it's the perfect listen for many, but equally a turn off for many others. I think they have the balance fairly right.
    • I agree Scott has always been a good standalone presenter, but always better when with someone. When chappers left the radio one show it felt a different show and Chris joining was what it needed and brought new life. for the format of the radio 2 show Scott’s show fits well with the station but again, there’s the huge gap between radio1 and 2 As been said already old radio2 listeners feel it now feels too young with latest changes, yet old radio1 listeners still feel radio 2 feels too old. The inbetween stage demographic of too old for radio 1 but too young for radio 2 is still not catered for radio 2 was left to grow old with its audience for too long and to change things up now feels to try and change a brand image the right thing to do is leave it as it is and cater for that 1.5 demographic which I’m sure the new proposed 00s and 10s station will do if approved. Problem is it’s so overdue that by the time it gets off the ground these listeners are already likely to be lost and the changing image of radio2 likely to lose what it stands for as a brand with the “it’s too young now “  moving to boom and the “ it still sounds old “ crowd not able to move with their favourite presenters like Scott so finding themself on capital a radio 1.5 would have been perfect for Scott and Chris, seems unlikely but this is why I think who branding of bbc radio needs a rethink if these new stations get off ground
    • Bank Holiday Monday Schedule 6am-10am: Arielle Free in for Greg 10am-2pm: Dean & Vicky (No Rickie, Melvin & Charlie) 2pm-6pm: Vick & Jamie (No Katie) 6pm onwards: As normal.
    • Dare I say they've sounded great this past week?  Very much gelling.  Maybe less pressure?  Seem to be having a genuinely good time and not forcing things.
    • I'm in the minority in my workplace, most of them love country music.  Me, the American, does not care for it.  That said, I haven't haaaaaated some of the country adjacent stuff that's been on the R1 playlist.
    • The Eurovision semi finals are on from 8 to 10pm on Tuesday 7th and Thursday 9th May with Richie Anderson. That means Sara Cox in on till 8 on those days.  Saturday 11th May is Eurovision 'Super Saturday... 1-3pm Your Ultimate Abba song with Gary Davies  3-6pm Michelle Visage's Eurovision All Stars 6-8pm Eurovision Request Party with Owain Wynn Evans 8pm Eurovision Grand Final with Scott Mills and Rylan Clark
    • It is funny because everyone thought Matt was on the way out, now he's been described as the heir to Mills.
    • Some similar names to Big Weekend.  Sabrina Carpenter, David Guetta, Perrie, Bradley Simpson, Jax Jones, Caity Baser, Benson Boone, Rudimental. David Guetta is a good name.
