  1. I don't think it's necessarily due to VT'd content, more that someone less slick is driving the desk for whatever reason I've noticed this a bit recently too, mainly on Matt and Mollie's show, where I suspect Mollie is driving the desk
  2. Early breakfast is also a possibility although Jordan's more likely to get a weekday slot first. She could just be making more podcasts and documentaries for R1 though, rather than more radio shows.
  3. I was listening to an old Friday podcast the other day which had Maya on - I'd forgotten just how annoying she used to be. Technically and presenting-wise she's a bit better than she used to be, but I'd much rather have Jordan on 3 days a week. What annoys me a bit is how she adds an unnecessary "The" to some band names - such as "The Slaves" and "The Blossoms".
  4. Chris is sounding so much smoother when presenting this now, it would be good to hear him present a regular show on his own one day. Hopefully this podcast is a permanent thing.
  5. Sideman in for Dev on the 8th tonight. Caught some of Alix and Riyadh covering life hacks on Sunday, they weren't any better or worse than Cel and Katie tbh. There were a few creases that could easily be ironed out, but they generally sounded OK.
  6. She's over on Radio 2 these days, with Sara Cox https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0000kd0
  7. Some old features are starting to return... Impossible Karaoke was on yesterday and What's My Age Again returns tomorrow with Jodie Whittaker off of Doctor Who!
  8. Someone's done a sterling job on the "Pass the Pasty" voiceover...
  9. Nothing groundbreaking so far. But then again, what did we expect from Grimmy? I was hoping he might actually be an improvement on the music heavy Dev and Alice show, but now I want them back
  10. From the few bits I heard it was brilliant. A top presenter, the right amount of music, good guests and silly features is what a breakfast show should be all about. Long overdue. Greg's definitely had an influence on the music played, which I'm not complaining about. Now I just need to plan my mornings so that I can catch more of it live...
  11. I've said a few times on this forum about the playlist being to 1xtra-like in the past couple of years. You can really hear the difference if you listen back to some older shows - much more indie and pop being played in the past and more rap currently. However I think it comes in waves, there have been periods in the past 12 months when the playlist is dominated by 1xtra type stuff and and at other times there's been less rap and more indie. Even around 2011/2012 the dominant genre would change quite a bit from month to month (I remember it being very dance heavy at one point).
  12. - mentions how he's not used to getting up so early / strange being on the radio at a different time - plays why hello there Jill clip - live music - George Ezra is a guest - says afternoon instead of morning - goes off playlist quite a bit - some sort of mention about faders/studios/mics or something to keep the geeks happy - some old Greg James show references that only his long time listeners/podcastards will get
  13. A rather low key exit, just a few highlights and presenter friends in for a chat. Was expecting less music for the last show, but then again it is Grimmy and it is Radio 1. HAIM would've been a better for the last song.
  14. Tom Walker – Leave a Light On Wasn't expecting that one.
  15. Location theories: Liverpool - Royal Liver Building Blackpool - Tower or one of the theatres Birmingham - Symphony Hall
  16. From the clues so far I'm guessing Liverpool, Blackpool or Birmingham...
  17. If Birmingham it's probably not the library (as suggested on air) since it's too modern - the chairs in one of the videos from yesterday looked they they belonged in a much older building.
  18. Sadly I think that the absence of Chris Smith With The News on What's My Age Again and Shouldn't Be News is R1 slowly phasing out Chris's non-newsbeat on air appearances. Hopefully though we'll get more highlights of past shows this week which will feature Greg and Chris together. In terms of features moving to the breakfast show: What's My Age Again is my favourite so hopefully they'll keep that; Impossible Karaoke is relatively new so might appear again; Shouldn't Be News is good but might have run it's course now. I got tired of the Ten Minute Takeover when we were "treated" to half an hour of Greatest Hits everyday since TMT basically became a 10 minute extension of that. However now that Greatest Hits is being phased out I'd quite like it to stay. There'll probably be a load of new features for breakfast too.
  19. Thanks for uploading these, currently listening to Monday's and looking forward to listening to the rest of them. IMO the playlist sounded a lot better back then - more pop and indie and less 1xtra grime and rap type stuff. Scott and Chris excellent as always.
  20. Abbie McCarthy's sounding good in for Huw tonight. Will Best is covering for Adele next Thursday and Friday https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0b8bf7m Don't know why they're not using Jordan or Katie.
  21. Weekend Breakfast with Dev and Alice has potential to be a really good show but there's just too much music. 60 songs so 15 an hour doesn't leave them much time to talk - it's a waste of them both being there if they don't have time to talk. Get rid of a few songs each hour so the links and features can be extended and you'd end up with a decent, podcastable, breakfast show.
  22. Ah, the old Wednesday night Matt Edmondson Show. I miss it too, it was the first radio show that I made sure that I didn't miss each week. Still one of the best things I've ever heard. Dev has been sounding good covering the 8th recently – still entertaining without the I-want-the-whole-universe-to-hear-me shouting. He makes the show much more listenable.
  23. After hearing the trails over the last week (the Queen Alice Levine one is particularly good), I caught the end of Dev and Alice’s show then bits of the other shows throughout the day on Friday. First time I’ve heard Dev and Alice together and thought they worked well together however I didn’t hear enough of it to catch any features or compare it to Grimmy’s show. Maya was alright I guess, she wasn’t annoying this time and I didn’t notice any technical problems. She had a few anecdotes to tell and didn’t have any one to interrupt. No worse and no better than a Clara show to be honest. Glad that greatest hits didn’t run for the full 3 hours – hopefully this is the start of it being phased out either completely or at least to an acceptable level. Of course, this show should really have been Jordan’s. Matt and Mollie were as good as ever and Mollie sounds more comfortable on air now. In reply to other’s comments about the jokes in the songs coming up bit – I like this part of the show, it is very Matt Edmondson however it works better with his delivery than it does with Mollie’s. Scott sounded great on the chart – best chart show I’ve heard for a while. All in all good to have something different at breakfast (and to have Alice on an extra day), 10-1 was nether better or worse, Matt was as good as always and it was good to hear Scott doing the chart. I do wonder, however, how relevant is Mollie King these days? Does she have a big following and which age group are they targeting with her?
