I'm curious - in what context did Vick and Katie mention Jordan? Was it r.e. Arielle's wedding?

Reference to Jordan having Katie’s coat (random), and potentially taking the old show box with him.

Since Easter at the beginning of April, Vick, Katie and Jamie have been on together just 4 times. Which is crazy for a brand new, high profile Radio 1 show. Imagine Jordan being off that regularly on Capital because of ‘other commitments’ - would never happen.

Jamie has only presented 6 times in the past month. Katie has presented every single show. Given how she got the job at the last minute I think very likely she would have had other commitments, which she will have cancelled/rearranged, cos being Radio 1 drive time host is a massive gig.

Vick, Katie and Jamie - 4 times; Vick and Katie - 10 times; Katie and Jamie - 2 times; Katie and Lauren - 2 times.

Not sure the obsession from Aled with celebrities. Between him and Danny Beard he's making some odd decisions.

Bet the bosses are cross everytime he is mentioned especially when he is sounding so great on Capital.

Katie got offered job before Jamie. They wanted to announce Katie last in case of backlash over Jamie getting it.

I met Katie recently and she told me this

How can that be possible, when Katie said on the first episode of the new podcast that she got the call afterwards and was surprised because she'd heard about Jamie being announced and thought that was it?

So from the podcast it’s Vick and Jamie on Monday, all 3 of them on Tuesday and Wednesday, Vick and Katie on Thursday and then Katie is on holiday the week after so it’s just Vick and Jamie.
I wonder how long it will be before we actually get a full week of their show?

I just want to add though that I am beginning to enjoy the show a bit more now that it’s settled in - I think Jamie (when he’s there) has calmed down a bit and then the new features that have been progressively added over the last couple of weeks have been good too.

I still don’t think it’s a patch on Vick and Jordan together, but it is now a show that seems like it could have legs into the future and once Matt and Mollie start in July, I could see myself sticking with R1 all afternoon.

I still haven’t forgiven Radio 1 for signing Laing. Vick and Jordan was good, you could hear the chemistry on air

Jamie not even knowing about the big weekend day and the fact he starts the show at 14:00 just says everything.

Vick and Jamie together are quite… awkward. Random discussion seems to be at an all time high without Katie. Maybe it’s just that there’s a lack of features today.

Was the same vibe on the Easter Monday show they did too. Just random questions and the like…. Katie is definitely the glue around making the show listenable.

The more time goes on the more you think if they'd actually put some thought into it it should've been Vick & Katie from the start. A proven pairing and Katie ended up on the show anyway - whereas Katie's even mentioned she was only asked to join after the Jamie announcement

And even by Going Home standards on time off, it's quite funny that a few months in we still haven't had a full week of the supposed line-up - and that's with a 4-day week.

I think Jamie is really starting to settle into the role well. He comes across as really warm, and genuinely invested in the listeners when he’s talking to them which is nice. I think he’s building a really great relationship with Vicki and Katie too.

His recent great company podcast is great too, where he has quite a deep chat with someone new each week. He’s clearly a very genuine person and I think he has some real potential.

Agree with this. The anti-Jamie feeling was IMO quite influenced by the negativity around him replacing Jordan, since Jordan was exceptional and also universally loved. When people mention Danny and Jamie in the same sentence about bad hiring decisions I almost choke - Jamie may not be perfect but he's several leagues better than Danny already and has bags of potential. Danny is poor and has shown zero potential...

I actually caught snippets of today’s show, and I found it much better than the last time I listened. I have made it no secret that I like Jamie on the radio, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Matt & him together last year. People have criticised him for not being relatable, but I have to agree with the comment above that I have always found him a naturally warm person to listen to. Maybe the going home set up was something that needed settling in and things are starting to take shape.

It must have been difficult for him joining an established duo in Vick & Katie to begin with.

Jamie was great on something songs today, fully engaged in the caller and sounded like a real presenter. Maybe he is doing as a lot of us hoped and really learning as he goes, how to do it properly.

He’s definitely gotten better and the show has sounded fine this week. I think it been at its best when it’s been Katie and Jamie or Vick and Katie. Vick and Jamie are ok together, but I do think the show sounds better when it’s Vick and Katie and therefore I still don’t really understand the point of the trio.

Jamie is, however, a lot better than Danny Beard!

It's been a few months now and I listen most days while working, overall it's definitely not as good as Going Home V1. But, I do still enjoy the format...I like the way it moves onto something else every half an hour & that there's plenty of listener interaction with the questions etc.

For me, the biggest issue with the show is Jamie. He seems like a nice enough chap, and I've even found him to be quite amusing/endearing at times. But I think his personality is much better suited to a podcast environment, because he says things which are too random, veering off course & he doesn't really respect the tight format of a show like this. Aled has clearly tried to make him 'work', as he has been paired with Matt, done some shows with Spencer Matthews & now apart of the Going Home trio, but I don't think he ever really will 'work'...for a whole host of reasons like I said above & the un-relatability factor.

Just Vick & Katie together are superior, and it really shows up the fact that Jamie isn't needed - which doesn't help of course that he is off quite a bit, so you regularly get to hear this version of the show anyway.

Ranking the pairings we have:

1st = Vick & Katie
2nd = Katie & Jamie
3rd = Vick & Jamie

Katie is the glue that holds the show together & is the real reason I persist with it. She's much better at keeping Jamie in check & that is obvious during shows when it's just Vick & Jamie. They're virtually unlistenable imo.

I just gave up completely I'm afraid.

Will Manning on Capital is a much more pleasant listen even if I prefer Radio 1's music.

Agree with the above views. Jamie is still fine and he seems like a decent guy (or at least is able to act like one), but his attendance record really makes me question his position on the show. If he was so desperate for a radio shift then they should’ve put him on Friday early breakfast to prove his commitment.

The other thing I’m not really impressed with overall is the fact that the show seems to veer into generic awkward questions that have tenuous links to something going on. When the election took place they spent 30 minutes discussing words beginning with ‘E,’ which felt very Danny Beard-like in my opinion. This is probably a production decision because they’re all capable of engaging topics, as were Vick and Jordan before, and only seems to happen when it’s Vick and Katie alone. Do they deliberately downplay the pair so that the show seems better when Jamie is there? Vick mentioned on air how Jamie is Aled’s favourite and seems to have a lot of leeway with him, so he must be really keen to establish him, although I do think that ultimately the trio won’t stay together for more than a year or a year and a half, even if schedule changes elsewhere force them apart.

Features wise, it’s nice they’ve done some new things, and they’re definitely better than Judge Jordan. Moving the Something Songs to once a week makes sense given the show is quite short and they now have a handover with Jack most days.

Oh, and I wish they’d update the show page on BBC Sounds for which presenters are on each show like they used to with Vick and Jordan. I thought they weren’t doing this so social media/the press wouldn’t pick up on Jamie’s attendance record, but they don’t update it for RMC either so I’m guessing it must be a pain to constantly update the page every day (which is something that they’d probably have to do given that it seems Jamie is away most days).

Oh, and fair play to Vick who has had only one week off since the show relaunched in March.

I guess the difference is that the show titles include all 3, so doesn’t need to be edited to include anyone? Whereas Going Home V1 had to add Katie in whenever someone was off?

Agree on the features, I really like the “Airing Your Dirty Laundry” as that results in some really funny stories. I think it’s probably time to end Something Songs, it just sticks out a little bit now as they don’t do features at 4pm on the other days…

Personally think they could do with something like “Musical Mindreader” everyday around 5:30pm. A shorter feature which means they can still talk to Jack afterwards. Some days he’s too busy & others they’re filling for them, so it is a bit messy.

    • Intrigued why Matt & Mollie aren't presenting breakfast on Monday, with James in for them instead (which has happened before).. or even James given a chance to present the breakfast show?
    • Sam & Danni seem to be down for Breakfast on Monday. James Cusack on Going Home. That’s another new name in the list of “people who have hosted Going Home in 2025”.
    • Wednesday, surely? But this is another mess, as this weeks Summer press release said it’ll be Sam & Danni no Jamie from the 28th - so it’s actually a whole week earlier!
    • Jamie Laing’s last show before his summer break will be on Wednesday 16th July.
    • I worked out once Scott spent 3 months of a year off his own slot in the Moyles days and more like 4 in Grimmys days, six weeks of his own holiday and projects, six covering Grimmy plus some ad hoc days
    • Back on topic, I think there's quite a few of the current Radio 1 presenters who would be able to adapt to Radio 2's style in the future. It's more of question of how many of them will actually end up there. With much of R2's line up changed over the past couple of years, it's quite possible we won't see much movement there, and R2 management might even decide to look elsewhere to bring in new presenters in future.
    • With OJ covering on bank holidays. She is the best person for the job however... they're going to end up with a situation like Scott covering R1 breakfast back in the day, where she spends quite a bit of time off her own slot covering Breakfast, plus her own holiday and other commitments. She's been filming for something recently which has meant she's been off several days a week since May. She was off last week, on breakfast this week, OJ is on Mon/Tues next week, then She's off the following two weeks.
    • Looking back at this I would say now that Sara is the main cover - I think she has been reestablished as it now
    • Purley on the R1 Dance station.. Someone on DS said don't expect to see any changes to the schedule on the new stations however if they are taking on Capital Dance with this, which they clearly are, which has live presenters 7am - 10pm except for the 11am mix then they'll surely have to have a proper scheduled set of shows. At the moment Arielle is the only "live" per say show and only "live" a few days a week with earlier shows being repeated Thursday Friday and Saturday. Connor and Charlie are clearly pre records but was this only for the time it was online only and they have already got a schedule ready to go on day 1? also of note is that Charlie is taking over a podcast as well as starting a new project with podcasting which makes me wonder if she is about to step back from Dance Anthems all together to concentrate on those and Connor takes over? So you could have Arielle doing 9-12 weekdays live then someone else 12-3 and Connor live 3-6 on R1D and doing Dance Anthems on a Saturday.
    • As none of the Going Home Team aren't currently on the air, that's a bit if an issue. Considering most of the Dance DJs will be out there, I'm surprised none of them are being utilised to host the 1-4 slot that weekend.
    • Going Home presenters have done the last few years ?
    • Nat and Vicky are being sent to Ibiza this year. They’ll be live on Friday 1st August from 1-4pm.
    • Since Radio 1 Dance and Anthems have been allowed to broadcast on DAB, do we think they’ll be a proper schedule of shows like on Radio 1 Dance with the morning show and Dance Anthems at drive time. Maybe Lauren Redfern, Tyler Selby, Chrissy Cameron or Matt Hallsworth will be scheduled on named shows like Hits Radio 00s or Capital Anthems rather than the generic ‘Radio 1 Anthems’ show. Obviously it would probably cost more to produce actual shows on the station however.
    • There's been a lot of positive reaction to the Mylo and Rosie news so am interested now to hear what their shows are like. And yep wouldn't be surprised if they stay on beyond July as cover ever so often. And that Friday-Sunday news was hidden in the small print a little. It presumably means we lose Party Anthems all that month as that is what has happened this year with Big Weekend, Glasto for example. I certainly I hope it isn't Party Anthems being quietly axed full stop - it and Future Pop are 2 real hidden gems on Radio 1.
    • I’m pleased for Mylo and Rosie, they were highly thought of in our local area and definitely worthy of that slot
