Another aside - I think Sam and Danni are outstanding with a wide appeal demographically. Hope this gives them a chance for a big promotion.

Think when next chance anything opens up it would be good move and would be good to have a daytime radio 1 national show to ne out of England permanently for the first time. I think they are more keen to use Cardiff studios for stuff.

Absolutely. In the absence of Jordan, I see them as next in line for the Breakfast Show now - assuming that Vick is on her way out and Matt/Mollie don’t get it.

Aside from Katie - I think Sam and Danni would be the best choice now.

Though hey - for Radio 1 fans of recent years, Jordan North and Chris Stark at Breakfast on Capital is a hard one to pass by..

Yeah Jordan had a lot of appeal with the younger audience as well following I’m a Celeb and the podcast. Part of the reason that this makes this an even bigger blow to R1 😢

Jordan is the new host of Capital Breakfast, he was not going to get the gig at R1 so he left for more money. His contract has come to an end and he decided to move asap.

Katie has a husband and a life in Manchester, it’ll be selfish of her to leave all that behind. She’s happy being a substitute and working with the others.

For all the northerners complaining, R1 is national radio not a northern radio station. You barely get good reception up north anyway (I’ve driven to Sheffield and I felt so bad that the quality suffers the further north you go). The vast majority of listeners are southern. Jamie is a temp solution whilst they figure out what to do.

Personally, I’d want Matt and Mollie in drive or breakfast. Vick can do the live lounge show, RMC can do drive and get rid of Dean. Vicky and Katie can do the lunchtime show or give it to the siblings Sam and Dani.

I wonder if they might be giving Jordan a goodbye show on Monday, it’s the only day that still has the Vick and Jordan picture, why would they have changed all the others and left that one?

Ooh that's interesting that they left the pic up for Monday... I hope he gets a final show. Even if he is moving to a rival show, it really would seem like more has gone on if he doesn't get to say goodbye, and Jordan doesn't strike me as the type to burn his bridges

Suspect they’ve just done that to have the Mega Massive Mondays image.

I feel like they would definitely have mentioned him having a last show in the press release if that was the case. Suspect it’s just the Mega Massive Mondays image and they haven’t edited it yet. Title just saying “Going Home”.

Yeah, I thought this was a wind up to begin with. With Greg being off with Covid, I thought it a coincidence. I genuinely don’t think this is a prank anymore tho - it has been a total shock though.

Jordan has made no secret that he wanted Breakfast and I thought that was where he’d end up. But as others have pointed out, if Greg stays on for another few years, then there’s a chance that the opportunity will pass for Jordan completely and he’s as well to seize the opportunity now if he can. Capital does make sense - Roman Kemp seems to be getting more presenting right now.

I’m not keen on Jamie hosting - I do think it’s temporary until they work out their next steps. I was never too sure of Vick but after reading her recent interview, I actually don’t mind her now.  I think Vick presented with Jamie last year and they didn’t sound too bad together.

I am gutted Jordan is leaving tho.

He mst certainly could appeal to a young audience but he had multi-generational reach as his

She can be right on many of things and this is most certainly one of them this isn’t go down well. It seems to be. I don’t think Aled Haydn Jones’s era hasn’’t been a success it could’ve been the Christmas new talent take overs has proven strongly worked and so does the introduction of the ‘Future’ brand of programmes. But I do feel that the station needs a change of director.

Think we are all gutted, but it's genuinely really exciting for him and a big scoop for Capital. I couldn't quite get into Roman's show, but I feel I'd be more tempted to listen to Jordan with Chris and Sian. Will have split loyalty with Greg!

Got to be honest I'll probably be heading over to Jordan, Chris & Sian at Capital if that's the case.

I like Greg a lot but I've also heard him on Breakfast for 6 years whereas Jordan, Chris & Sian would be something fresh and includes two DJs I really loved at Radio 1 in Jordan & Chris.

At times too I've been listening to Radio 1 at times despite some of the artists and music played and comparing the two side-by-side the Capital playlist feels slightly more to my taste and certainly has a lot less of the 'urban' stuff.

I usually agree with pretty much all you say so fair play, but to say there's no reception up north, I'm about as far north as you'd imagine and inside a hospital building most of the time with my work, some parts with actual lead walls. We get full reception inside so I'm not sure how you figure that the reception is bad, it's perfect? There's 16 million people in northern england alone. Not including the west midlands or anywhere south of Nottingham.

The issue comes that a chunk or vast majority may be southern, so let's say you've lost pretty much all of your northern audience instantly by putting him on, your southern audience aren't worth multi millions each. He's simply not relatable or like the average Radio 1 listener.

I fully agree with what you say on M&M on though, so we agree there

I can’t see Greg going for a few years now, Jordan leaving will have sealed the deal. There’s no one there at all to replace him which wouldn’t cause a mass exodus in the next couple of years. The R1 bosses will be clinging onto him.

Think the radio 1 bosses will be only able to do so much. He seems to be working on other works of podcasting, broadcasting and after six years he may fancy a change and go out in a high and not stay through a rough patch for the station.

One thing I’m still baffled at is that the BBC are expected to have to make more cuts this year yet they are promising new stations.

I kind of wonder how long that Greg can sort of assimilate to an audience of in the flagship show on the national youth station can credibly relate and discuss things to the 18 and under demographic any college sixth formers or GCSEs students who Greg could be the father of.

I know it’s something that Scott Mills managed to do for decades on the station and could’ve kept going through to the point where he would be getting leaflets through the door for life insurance. It’s good he defied ageism. It helped that he never wore the crown of the breakfast show permanently. Youth stations like Radio 1, Kiss and Capital FM are unlike any others when at a point of time where you expect to step down after a couple of years as hogging the slot and think Greg may have sense with that.

    • Since Easter at the beginning of April, Vick, Katie and Jamie have been on together just 4 times. Which is crazy for a brand new, high profile Radio 1 show. Imagine Jordan being off that regularly on Capital because of ‘other commitments’ - would never happen.  Jamie has only presented 6 times in the past month. Katie has presented every single show. Given how she got the job at the last minute I think very likely she would have had other commitments, which she will have cancelled/rearranged, cos being Radio 1 drive time host is a massive gig.   Vick, Katie and Jamie - 4 times; Vick and Katie - 10 times; Katie and Jamie - 2 times; Katie and Lauren - 2 times.
    • I see Katie (and Mairead) were out with Jordan tonight.  I don’t listen to the show any longer, I am shocked they are allowed to mention Jordan.
    • At least I do not ask stupid questions…😂
    • I suggest you follow the other DJs too if so, you will learn the hardest working will go further 🤣
    • A simple check on his instagram would answer all your questions , he’s on tour with his wife and the team behind his podcast. I suggest anyone to follow the radio presenters, you will learn a lot about their other jobs and work commitments.
    • Where is Jamie? It felt like he was settling in when Vick wasn’t on but he’s not been on since last Tuesday now. They’ve not even mentioned him, in fact they’ve mentioned Jordan more than they’ve mentioned him in the last two days.
    • Scott's show is on the road next week, live from Malmö in Sweden on Wednesday and Friday, ahead of Eurovision. As he's doing the semi final coverage on the TV on Tuesday and Thursday alongside Rylan, Gary Davies sits in for him on those days.
    • I don't feel there's so much overlap between M&M and Scott's shows. M&M is of a similar calibre to Scott & Chris on R1, with genuine laugh out loud moments and usually a show packed full of real interesting content. Scott's R2 show is IMO a shadow of the stuff he did on R1 (not his fault, he's doing exactly what station management want), with music and content to appeal to a much older audience.
    • To be fair, Scott & Chris would've still been fine on Radio 1. It was mentioned at the time that Scott's move was very much on Radio 2's part rather than Radio 1 wanting to move them on. That's the one problem that Radio 2 has, trying to appeal to such a wide demographic.. it's the perfect listen for many, but equally a turn off for many others. I think they have the balance fairly right.
    • I agree Scott has always been a good standalone presenter, but always better when with someone. When chappers left the radio one show it felt a different show and Chris joining was what it needed and brought new life. for the format of the radio 2 show Scott’s show fits well with the station but again, there’s the huge gap between radio1 and 2 As been said already old radio2 listeners feel it now feels too young with latest changes, yet old radio1 listeners still feel radio 2 feels too old. The inbetween stage demographic of too old for radio 1 but too young for radio 2 is still not catered for radio 2 was left to grow old with its audience for too long and to change things up now feels to try and change a brand image the right thing to do is leave it as it is and cater for that 1.5 demographic which I’m sure the new proposed 00s and 10s station will do if approved. Problem is it’s so overdue that by the time it gets off the ground these listeners are already likely to be lost and the changing image of radio2 likely to lose what it stands for as a brand with the “it’s too young now “  moving to boom and the “ it still sounds old “ crowd not able to move with their favourite presenters like Scott so finding themself on capital a radio 1.5 would have been perfect for Scott and Chris, seems unlikely but this is why I think who branding of bbc radio needs a rethink if these new stations get off ground
    • Bank Holiday Monday Schedule 6am-10am: Arielle Free in for Greg 10am-2pm: Dean & Vicky (No Rickie, Melvin & Charlie) 2pm-6pm: Vick & Jamie (No Katie) 6pm onwards: As normal.
    • Dare I say they've sounded great this past week?  Very much gelling.  Maybe less pressure?  Seem to be having a genuinely good time and not forcing things.
    • I'm in the minority in my workplace, most of them love country music.  Me, the American, does not care for it.  That said, I haven't haaaaaated some of the country adjacent stuff that's been on the R1 playlist.
    • The Eurovision semi finals are on from 8 to 10pm on Tuesday 7th and Thursday 9th May with Richie Anderson. That means Sara Cox in on till 8 on those days.  Saturday 11th May is Eurovision 'Super Saturday... 1-3pm Your Ultimate Abba song with Gary Davies  3-6pm Michelle Visage's Eurovision All Stars 6-8pm Eurovision Request Party with Owain Wynn Evans 8pm Eurovision Grand Final with Scott Mills and Rylan Clark
