Honestly I’m so glad that Matt and Mollie are finally getting the recognition they deserve. It’s no secret to many that I am their biggest fan and would love to see them do breakfast. They normally make my cry with laughter but this week I’ve cried everyday when they’ve opened up about their grief. The money raised is astonishing probably the third highest after Chris Moyles and Scott, the support for them online is incredible too so this could be the start of something for them both if not Mollie.

Listen to their first week of shows and tell me that he doesn’t fancy her. He’s super wooden, awkward and robotic. He was like that when they swapped Katie for Mollie on breakfast. He’s totally unlistenable. But as I’ve said I love his podcast, he’s so relaxed on that.

Jack Saunders is far too much for breakfast. I like him but he’s awful on the charts show and doesn’t have a lot about him. He’s just the shoutout king and team this or that. I reckon it will either be Matt and Mollie on breakfast, unless they don’t want to do it. Then they may take a punt on Sam and Dani. I highly doubt RMC will leave, most DJs leave if they have tv shows to fall back on and none of them do. I can see Vick and Katie presenting that show though and think they’d be great at it. Mid afternoon could go to Nat and James from Salford. Drive could be Sam and Dani’s or Vicky and Emil from Salford. Jack will be future sounds, Arielle will be far too old to be doing that show if he ever moves on. Sian to do the 20:00 slot in whatever format it is.

They are not popular with listeners - look on social media, they lost half the listeners according to many on this forum and other forums. They don’t gel and argue a lot behind the scene which they’ve openly admitted. Dean is self centred and narcissistic, he doesn’t play well with others. When he did a show with Mollie about Eurovision, he tried to dominate it. Whenever they have challenges and everyone is on, he always talks over everyone. Greg isn’t a fan of him. I cannot wait for Dean to go back to Gaydio and stay there. If he gets breakfast; that would be the end of radio 1. They both have been demoted - I feel for Vicky.

I never listened to going home with Jordan after the first two weeks, I thought Vick and Katie are a great combo and Jordan and Katie are a good combo but Vick and Jordan were a terrible combo as Jordan is such a wooden presenter when he’s paired with someone he fancies. It changed towards the end but I couldn’t stand the show. Jordan’s podcast is great and he’s more relaxed then. However, I have loved listening to Jamie and thought the show was far more enjoyable than it has ever been. I do think that Jamie is a spare and maybe in the long run he won’t work but he’s matured and actually got better at announcements.

Thursdays has been the new Fridays for nearly a decade. I don’t think it’s synonymous with London only.

It’s no secret that Matt and Mollie are my favs and would be the best breakfast show replacements. That said, they both struggle with early mornings, have kids too so who knows if that’s what they’d want. I think they’d want drive or afternoon. But they have a lot of good games, they’re very popular - even more so than the weekday DJs. I can’t believe I’m about to say this but Dean actually sounds far better than he ever has when he subbed in recently for Greg. He wasn’t annoying and actually seemed a polish DJ. He might be the new host as Aled thinks the demographic like him but he is universally disliked across all platforms. If he tones down the attention seeking and gets a good producer then he might be worth listening to.

I think the problem is that radio 1 is not a teen radio anymore, the vast majority of teens think it’s lame (I’ve asked my cousins and siblings) to listen to radio as they’d rather listen to on demand music or podcasts or TikTok etc. Radio 1s demographics is changing to an older demographic who aren’t willing to move to R2! The average age of a R1 listener is 36!!! I think R2 is for those in their late 40s and most of us in this forum aren’t ready to move over. Putting young, unknown and unpolished talent to replace those that the majority listen to in order to appeal to a generation that don’t or won’t ever listen to radio will be the end of radio 1. Commercial rivals have older talent and are thriving, the age of the DJs don’t matter as long as they have segments in their shows that are engaging with the ones listening in. The 00s show proves my point, it’s one of the most popular shows on R1 but teens aren’t listening to it. It’s the oldies reminiscing.

Cheers pal! I can only speak of my experience though and I know you must be right but I listened to local stations on the way than R1! Diversity is important and I agree that we should have more diverse voices. It shouldn’t all be northern though, R1 is losing millions of listeners whilst its London rivals are increasing listeners. I don’t think millions (if that’s what they achieved on drive) would switch off, that’s assuming their entire demographic is northern, which it won’t be. R1 has quite a lot of northern voices on the main schedule especially (Vick, Vicky, Katie, Dean, Arielle, Nat, Tiffany Calver, Danny Howard, Sarah story, Dean, Adele, Jordan, Jade Louise, Cel etc) so it’s not a huge loss to lose one. I agree that he isn’t relatable to the average listener but who is? All of them are multi millionaires - if you see what they get paid for a few hours of work it’s astonishing. Remember a lot of people put on a front to be relatable when in reality they’re nothing of the sort. He’s only there temporarily, I think he is good on his podcast but terrible as a DJ. He needs Matt to train him.

Jordan is the new host of Capital Breakfast, he was not going to get the gig at R1 so he left for more money. His contract has come to an end and he decided to move asap. Katie has a husband and a life in Manchester, it’ll be selfish of her to leave all that behind. She’s happy being a substitute and working with the others. For all the northerners complaining, R1 is national radio not a northern radio station. You barely get good reception up north anyway (I’ve driven to Sheffield and I felt so bad that the quality suffers the further north you go). The vast majority of listeners are southern. Jamie is a temp solution whilst they figure out what to do. Personally, I’d want Matt and Mollie in drive or breakfast. Vick can do the live lounge show, RMC can do drive and get rid of Dean. Vicky and Katie can do the lunchtime show or give it to the siblings Sam and Dani.

The amount of love for Greg on this forum about Scott mills is just odd. They are literal opposites of each other. Greg has the lowest listenership of any breakfast host on R1. Clearly, outside of this forum he isn’t as loved as all of you think. If Matt is too old for R1 then so is Greg as they’re the same age and Jordan isn’t that far off both of them. I do think many of you would love the website to change to ‘unofficial Greg’ but if you’re true Scott mills fans then you know Matt and Mollies show is very similar to his. Jordan will most likely get breakfast but with Mollie. I can’t see Katie moving down to London especially considering her husband works in Manchester. Or they split studios but that will inevitably have tech issues. Mollie makes the most sense as she has the gravitas and Katie can sub in for her. Drive will go to RMC and Vick Hope will do Live Lounge. Dean and Vicky will be split and Dean will most likely go to Matt and Mollies slot unless James takes that. Vicky might do life hacks by herself. Maia will take over future Pop. The question is where Matt fits in, does he get paired with Jamie on the 13:00 show or continues the weekend slot but with Jamie?

I know some will disagree but the more I listen to Mollie and Jordan, I think Mollie is way more natural at presenting the breakfast show than Jordan is. I know all of you love Jordan so I’m waiting for the hate. I think him and Katie are a great combo, I think Katie and Vic are a great combo. He gets nervous around girls he fancies and that was so evident when he presented with Vic and was in love with her and I think Mollie intimidates him. Matt and Mollie should take over breakfast, Vic and Jamie/Emil do lunchtime. Jordan stays on drive with Katie. James takes Katie’s show and Vicky does the lunchtime weekend slot with either Nat or Emil. Greg has lost more listeners in the latest RAJAR report.

We can agree to disagree, I love mollie and matt. I think they should have been the natural successors to Scott. When they do breakfast it’s the best because they bring a different dynamic, it’s innuendos, it’s trivia, it’s interactive and more relatable. Maybe a north south divide as to what constitutes entertainment. I think Jordan will be the next breakfast host with Mollie. Vick won’t want to do it and nor will Katie move down.

I think he just needs to relax, I love his podcast but on the radio I just find him so boring. Like it’s two different people.

I agree - Jordan is so stiff as a radio host but then he has so much personality when he does his podcast. When he started drive time he was super stiff and Vic was loving life. Mollie is super polished and can control the show easily whereas Jordan just seems like the boring producer pressing buttons in the background. He needs to let loose and be more relaxed.
