When did Jordan cover breakfast last on radio 1:I think he will be good on capital esp working with Chris they were really funny on afternoons when he covered Scott

Jordan last did it in October with Mollie. And he had a week in August with Katie. After October the next time Greg was off was first week of January when Dean covered.

I did wonder if the Mollie pairing was a trial for a future Breakfast partnership - perhaps because Vick doesn’t want to do it and Katie’s in Manchester with lots of other commitments.

It would be fascinating to understand how this has all played out over the past few months. It really felt like he was going to succeed Greg but now it’s all unravelled.

What's the likelihood that Roman will announce his departure on Monday with Jordan appearing in the studio to be unveiled live on air?

I guess that depends what restrictions the BBC have on Jordan.  From Capital's side this is a very smooth transition as Roman is going on his own terms.

I mean since he has served his time at radio 1 and if it is the sake that he has left for Global the BBC can’t penalise him for breaking its restrictions without wasting too much time and money of breaching contract post his last shift on the job. The fact that Jordan had agreed to work to March the 4th but the BBC decided otherwise and looking like he hadn’t agreed thad Thursday as his last show. On that basis that he could counter claim that the BBC breached their side of the agreement stated. I can’t imagine that if on Monday or sometime next week he is announced as a presenter on Capital FM I can’t see the BBC wanting to get in any legal dispute of potential breaches of contractual agreements.

Cheers pal! I can only speak of my experience though and I know you must be right but I listened to local stations on the way than R1!

Diversity is important and I agree that we should have more diverse voices. It shouldn’t all be northern though, R1 is losing millions of listeners whilst its London rivals are increasing listeners.

I don’t think millions (if that’s what they achieved on drive) would switch off, that’s assuming their entire demographic is northern, which it won’t be. R1 has quite a lot of northern voices on the main schedule especially  (Vick, Vicky, Katie, Dean, Arielle, Nat, Tiffany Calver, Danny Howard, Sarah story, Dean, Adele, Jordan, Jade Louise, Cel etc) so it’s not a huge loss to lose one.

I agree that he isn’t relatable to the average listener but who is? All of them are multi millionaires - if you see what they get paid for a few hours of work it’s astonishing. Remember a lot of people put on a front to be relatable when in reality they’re nothing of the sort. He’s only there temporarily, I think he is good on his podcast but terrible as a DJ. He needs Matt to train him.

Fully agree with you. Matt clearly used to drag him along, you could hear that when they were together when he was doing the cover. But as you've rightly said, I think temporary and give management some breathing space. Also agree with good podcaster but poor R1 broadcaster.

Yeah that's reasonable to say and obviously they shouldn't be all northern, of course not.

A lot of those names you mention have obviously now left Radio 1 and most aren't on daytimes for normal shows. I think it's fair to say Jordan was the main northern character on R1.

Katie, Vicky H, Nat are their 3 Northern females.

As for their Northern male? There's now only James Cusack that Radio 1 has.

He's the down to earth, guy down the pub presenter that connects with the northerners and similar to Jordan puts an endearing charm on southeners

The gap was there at R1 when Chris Stark left, it's even more prominent now that Jordan has gone. When I say gone, he actually vanished from Radio 1 in a day. I wouldn't be surprised if they're now looking at Cusack and thinking we need to have him on more and give him a show on a September change around. His shows are excellent, he's very likeable and fills a demographic

Though if they hold out too much longer there's a good chance Global will snap him up too. He seems to do a lot of cover work across Capital and Heart local stations.

While I guess if it happened would be another positive result from the Christmas/New Year scheme but would also be yet another DJ that Radio 1 would be missing up on.

While I guess there is the Manchester issue, do wonder if the situation might have slightly more warmly received if it were Katie put onto Going Home rather than Jamie Laing and you had James Cusack then taking Katie's weekend slot.

Jamie was on Sunday Brunch earlier. He’s going on tour with his wife in April with their podcast. He came out with one of his random facts (think he did this this when he did Mollie’s cover), Tim and Simon said they hoped Vick wasn’t watching and they should start a book on how long it was before Jamie gets fired 🙈

Saying about taking bets on how long it would be before it will take before he is fired must’ve been super awkward.

I see the Going Home tradition of the regular hosts being away just as much as they're actually on-air is set to continue then.

Just hope with the 'refresh' of Going Home Katie finally gets her own version of the jingle. That was always a small peeve of mine with Going Home-  it's not like she was only occasional cover and each time after the 'Vick & Jordan' jingle you'd then have them saying 'Katie's with me this week, X is off' when a simple jingle would've done the job

Given how ultra-quick Radio 1 were to remove any or all mention of Jordan from the upcoming schedule it is quite funny how aside from Megamassive Monday they still have the 'obit' style black BBC logo for next week's 'Going Home' rather than just updating with the usual Sam & Danni image.

They tend to use the BBC B/W for any up and coming programmes scheduled before have a photo to go with the programme.

Yeah and the fact he's started with network uk shows now. Based on the quality of his shows and how he's universally liked on forums, that will no doubt translate into audiences (he must have had good feedback to keep being on r1), then they would be massively missing out.

I feel like Katie who is also very talented and well liked, would have been much more well received option yes, and then like you say, James Cusack into Katies weekend shows.

I'm not sure many know who James is. Katie and Sam and Danni already seem more established.

They always used to get the cover SFX edits done so quickly before. Almost same day for someone who was covering in years gone by. It’s a shame that doesn’t happen any more.

I wonder how could they get it so wrong, the BBC must have done their homework because deciding on Jamie right?

I’m not supportive of the choice but anything specific are you inferring with the homework around Jamie Laing?

Apparently he’s successful with younger audiences, although I imagine Matt and Mollie’s show, where he presented, probably skews younger (I.E. a lot of kids listen) because of the family timeslot.

I do think this is worrying times for radio 1. As an old head I recall Moyles leaving but you felt there was a solid guaranteed future for the station. Scott still there, big experienced names to sort stuff out when it got tough. It was the same when Mark and Lard went, Simon Mayo, Chris Evans etc years and years back. But now it feels like with Jordan North going it's going to sound like a load of teenagers giggling amongst themselves. And I point to mid mornings on that imo. Radio 1 need a big young star who can present, and who's already popular to come in and create a fuss. And I mean someone who can be relevant for the next gen, not radio 1s current target audience. Aim for 2030.

on the grid.

    • The Summer on Radio 1 thing makes me wonder whether they might be doing something similar to last year again where they have a temporary schedule over the summer before introducing changes in September - maybe the new host won’t start until after the summer?
    • There was talk on my Big Weekend group from the council about them waiting for Ticketmaster to send an email out. They said they've been waiting a week. Maybe they're waiting for train strike confirmation first.
    • It’s on Saturday and Friday that week too. I guess this would make sense, as it gives them roughly 6 weeks off weekends until they start the new show?
    • Yeah he's on more than usual including this Sunday and then 3 more shows in May according to the above. Makes me think it's James for the weekend shows also
    • For some reason there is 'Summer on Radio 1' listed on Sunday 2nd June, could this be replacing M&M until July?
    • They seem to be using James more for cover now makes me think it will be him getting weekends eitjer breakfast or 1 till 4
    • Yep am very much Capital Breakfast now. Jordan, Chris and Sian are a great trio and it's got that feel of the old shows Jordan and Chris used to do on Radio 1. It doesn't take itself too seriously but is packed full of content and slick. With Greg he's great but 6 years in you've probably heard it all before plus frankly I can sit through the Capital Playlist a lot more easily than the Radio 1 playlist (where some of the inclusions and omissions can be quite baffling at times). Plus after things like the Oscars or Met Gala or if there's a particularly big TV show or film or popstar then Greg won't half wang on about it at times. I guess it's partly to be expected with it being a Breakfast show on a young station but it can feel very London bubble and get tired.
    • Ore Olukoga is in for Arielle on Tuesday 14th May. James Cusack is in for Danny Beard on Saturday 1st June. James Cusack is in for Nat on Sunday 2nd June.
    • I honestly never thought in a million years I’d move from Radio 1 to be a regular Capital breakfast show listener. But it’s got pretty much everything I want - 3 really genuine, entertaining mates having a laugh, playing silly games and it all sounds great. I became a big fan of Chris from his days with Scott, became a Jordan fan on Going Home, and Sian Welby is newer to me but is loads of fun too.  It’s great and I’ve shocked myself by transferring my listening at breakfast. For me Greg’s show now feels very tired and it’s time for something new. But with Jordan gone that’s unlikely to happen anytime soon. Greg’s had a great run and I’m a fan - but there’s no new ideas now. I still listen to Radio 1 at other times - but this show feels like very serious competition for Greg.
    • They have built four new studios to increase capacity, alongside the existing six.  Bearing in mind that some of the output of R1, 1X, R2 & 6M comes from elsewhere, and Asian Network is gradually moving all output to Birmingham, this should be enough!
    • How do they manage to cater for 6Music and Radio 2 on that floor? Did they adapt it?
    • I think we've all figured out now how much you like it @AndyK77 😂 Personally while I think it's by far the best show on the Capital schedule and better than its predecessor, it still has the shortened songs and other commercial-radio aspects that remind me why I'm a Radio 1 fan. No matter how well this has worked out for Jordan, and all credit to him for landing the job, I can't help but feel that a Jordan and Katie show on R1 breakfast would have been so much better!
    • A few weeks in and I am actually loving the show and Jordan is a nice mix of his old chaotic self and dare I say it a slick jock.
    • He must be in his element. At Eurovision and a Gold award!
    • I really like Rylan, and as much of a fun idea it would be to have Scott and Rylan together, I think Rylan is too much of a main character.  Scott needs a side-kick rather than a full on co-host I think. That’s why he and Chris worked so well, Scott steered the show, and Chris was the perfect person to have alongside him.    I don’t religiously listen to Rylan’s show, but when I do catch it, it’s perfect weekend energy. He has a very warm presenting style too, but something makes me think he and Scott together every day would be a bit too much.
