Jordan North to leave Radio 1

I’m actually pretty surprised that Scott hasn’t moved to Capital breakfast to join Chris, given Roman’s departure. I’m certain they’d pay a lot more than Radio 2 to make that happen but I get the impression he’s very loyal to the BBC.

Is this the first time we’ve seen a senior Radio 1 presenter move directly from the BBC to a huge slot on a commercial competitor? May well be why it’s caused such a stir.

I believe Scott was 1st choice for Heart when Jamie and Amanda started Breakfast and he entered negoiations for that gig which he then declined, probably being promised a move to 2 in the long run and in the short term given mids on Sat on R5L

If Scott would join a Global station it would be Heart I’d imagine. He is most certainly more loyal to the BBC and may not fancy doing the competitions and commercial. He is on a salary which he most certainly would be happy with but it would be a good poach for him on Heart and think I’d rather have Heart on over radio 2 daytimes.

But seems to be a P.R mess up if they stated that only a few hours ago when they announced that he was to leave and his last show would air early march. They should’ve pre-determined any conflict of interests if there were any ahead of the P.R public statement. If the BBC knowingly released the statement at the time that he had presented his last show after an agreed conflict of interest the statement should’ve reflected that he had already presented his last show which is uncommon from any press release. The fact is they seemed to falsely state a conflict in decision making.

Aye, the press release said "will be leaving".  Also Ken wasn't immediately put on gardening leave, right?  He just got a little heavy with "promotion".  I just have to wonder if something happened post press release that put a spanner in the works.

Yeah the thing with Scott is he’s such a versatile presenter he could easily do either in my opinion. Also, as a side note - has anyone noticed how Capital seems to have shifted with its target demographic and approach recently? They’ve started playlisting a lot of artists that would only be put on Radio 2 now (e.g. Busted and Take That). They even got them playing the Jingle Bell Ball.

I do remember around the same time he was touted to be the next host of Heart breakfast by tabloids like The Sun. But maybe in a year or so if he isn’t enjoying radio 2 as much he could be persuaded to move and quite possibly reunite with Chris Stark and be offered a podcast and deal where they can have more freedom interms of content they’d wish to produce as features they did on radio 1 was good for clicks and views and think a commercial station would look for that.

If he is actually going to Capital that is a massive loss for radio 1. Looking at X, looking at the r1 instagram comments, Jamie lang is not popular at all. Listeners don't vibe with him. I'm bang on target audience and I don't vibe with him. my mates, some guys and some girls think he's a toff and I dare say of the 15.9m people in northern england not many will take to him. So why are they replacing popular presenters with non popular presenters? I don't get it. X has gone mental on the quote tweets about this.

Is it just Katie, vicky and James Cusack left who are Northern now?

Social media skews towards those that moan.  I would suspect Jamie is a lot more popular than you think even if he is more polarising than someone like Jordan.  I don't think Aled et. al would make this decision without some reason.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Vick isn’t on Going Home for the next couple of weeks and they stick Arielle or Sam and Danni on it, firstly so that Vick hasn’t got a very awkward show on Monday to deal with and secondly so they can launch the show fresh on the 4th March.

I think you're spot on here. Definitely the sensible thing to do.

I would not be suprised either put a safe pair of hands in for a few weeks - even Matt and Mollie (Matt used to cover drive for Greg in the 10s)

In history every show change they have had a few weeks off before, and in effect Going Home will be relaunched with new features and format

The only time I have known no gap is when Scott and Greg swapped slots in 2012, literally finished on the Friday and come Monday Scott was on at 1 and Greg at 4

Think listeners could’ve preferred someone like Katie Thistleton. Think with Jamie Laing think adds to the argument that BBC are too often going for television personalities and celebrities over radio presenters. It’s odd to go for a celebrity that doesn’t feel that relatable to many listeners with a background of a posh Londoner when compared to Jordan very down to earth fairly young and from northern working class background.

I do feel that if Katie isn’t promoted soon she could be the next name the station loses by giving her something. James Cusack I wouldn’t include him yet as he isn’t on the pay roll think both Danny Howard and Sara Storie are from the north.

Don't get me wrong, I know that some people will like Jamie, but he is simply not relatable in the stuff he says or talks about. How is that reflective of the target audience outside Kensington and Chelsea or indeed central London. There's plenty of "posh" presenters on Radio 1 as it is without adding the multi millionaire biscuit man to the mix to drive away more audience with chat about how his weekend was

I could really see this happening.....

The last time I recall a daytime presenter from daytime leaving at this speed was when Chris Evans walked out/was fired !

I think some people would have doubted Vick and Jordan together, or Dean and Vicky, but both stabled the boat after Scott and Chris left.

Yep if Radio 1 were expecting listeners to take it well, they've had a rude awakening today especially with how sudden it is and Jordan seemingly not getting to say goodbye to listeners.

Also, the fact that popular presenters are once again getting passed over for a major role doesn't help things. Jamie's promotion feels like the Maya Jama situation in steroids. It's getting to the stage where Katie Thistleton and Matt Edmondson do feel like the Radio 1 bridesmaids - always overlooked for a weekday role and you wouldn't blame either for looking elsewhere.

The breakfast show on Radio 2 has already moved into the new studios, and Vine finished at Wogan House yesterday... today was their first day at NBH. I read that Paul Gambaccini's Sunday night show is the last show from Wogan House.

Vick and Jordan I totally agree with and they did make great radio together quite soon after launch, we would laugh at it at work, it was a very good show.

Dean and Vicky though, no chance. Dean and Vicky is pure car crash radio. It feels like the interim after scott till they actually find a decent replacement

Yeah I like Dean and Vicky as presenters but the delivery doesn’t feel as slick as it could be. I feel like every single show there’s some sort of technical error which you very rarely see on other shows. Also, I generally prefer Dean by himself I don’t know why.
