It's not stupidly small monitors, it's the resolution!

Mine is 1024 X 768

I think my tiny netbook uses your resolution Sam and that's only an 8.9"

Same as Emma on the laptop. Anything over 1600 x 1200 on a proper monitor as long as the screen's big enough for the usual screen furniture to be visible/clickable

...better but also smaller, so make sure your monitor is physically big enough for you to be able to read any of it.

Basically, with a higher resolution you can 'fit more' onto your desktop - thereby having several side by side browsers open for your favourite websites without the need for scrolling, minimising, switching windows etc etc.

With 22 inch plus monitors getting reasonable now it's worth maxing out your graphics card...
