Radio 1 Anthems Scheduling

And FINALLY we have a weekend announcement - Sam and Danni to weekend afternoons and James Cusack to weekend breakfast. Good decisions all round I’d say! 

OH and there’s a new 1 hour (?!) weekend early breakfast show with Ore on Saturdays and Swarzy on Sundays!!

Ahh they’re the perfect changes! Although where has the budget come from for another weekend early breakfast show?! Very happy for Sam and Danni, James and Ore though who have all done their fair share of cover! And Matt and Jerry is going to be chaos!

I can imagine he might also be used for Katie’s maternity cover?

Great announcement. Some excellent changes and additions to the Radio 1 family. About time Jerry had more exposure during the day!

I have felt for a while that Jerry would eventually get daytime work, he is great and far more than a specialist presenter.

I’ve been banging the drum for Sam & Danni on Weekend Afternoons, so these moves are spot on. Has it been mentioned if they’ll still be in Cardiff?

James will be great for WB - that show thrives with a solo presenter because of the pace of the day. Unsure on the need for a Weekend EB, especially at just an hour. But it gets 2 new names into the official line up & should mean all EB/Daytime cover is done by people “on the books”.

Jerry should be great fun with Matt. I really rated him from the week he spent on Going Home, despite having not heard a great deal of him beforehand.

I feel like they could’ve put better use to one or both of Ore and Swarzy for Friday Early Breakfast and ended the rotation.

Some good changes there. Well deserved for James Cusack and Sam & Danni. Having a duo on weekend afternoons is a good move and it means they won't go back to just two days. Great to see James Cusack on board finally as well. His cover stint over the summer really impressed me and he's done lots of cover for the past couple of years, so good to see it's finally paid off. 

 

Jeremiah covering for Mollie is an interesting one. I was expecting them to have another female presenter such as Maia Beth or Lauren Layfield stand in. However... Jerry from the bits I've heard of him is entertaining and definitely has that potential to successfully cross over from specialist to a mainstream daytime show so no complaints there.

I do wonder what the thinking is behind a 1 hour weekend early breakfast show? Will it be live or pre-recorded? I’m guessing it’s so essentially they have Ore and Swarzy on the books as official presenters in the view to giving them more in the coming years!

Very pleased for James though, you can see how much it means to him just from his Instagram post, I think he’ll be perfect doing that show as well.

Sam and Danni are also perfect to take over a more personality led show, it sounds like it will have guests on too which will be a nice change for weekends, there is no mention of them coming from Cardiff though so I wonder if that show is moving to London considering it’s based there at the moment? 
 

I think Matt and Jerry will be absolutely hilarious together, and I’m glad that he’s getting more exposure.

I’m guessing that Friday Early Breakfast will be going back to a presenter rotation now that Sam and Danni will be moving off it?

All in all I think these are a very strong set of changes announced today.

All jokes aside, great changes. Jerry feels an inspired shout to put alongside Matt while Mollie is on leave, those of us who banged the James Cusack drum feel justified and Sam & Danni will fill that M&M hole on weekend afternoons perfectly.

Do slightly wonder how necessary a weekend Early Breakfast show is (especially at just an hour) but I guess it's a way to get Ore and Swarzy's foot in the door permanently.

And best of all no influencers or Danny Beard in sight. Danny's spell hopefully now being assigned to the Lisa L'Anson section of the Radio 1 history book.

I presume that's just an error (especially as Thursday 8-10pm was the previous slot) by whoever did the release as otherwise surely they'd have announced that too.

Well you would've thought they'd have announced these schedule changes back when it was announced that Matt and Mollie were moving but look how that turned out! So that's hardly a good argument. That said, I do agree that it's probably a misprint as Rave-Up is barely a year old, as is Radio 1 Dance Morning that Arielle also presents.

I did think that at first too but looking at the post they put on Twitter says future pop is Thursday too, as well as on the graphic they made for Facebook and Insta and I started questioning whether they’d make the same mistake 3 times. Time will tell I guess!

It’s written in the press release as Thursday, so I would guess the graphics/social teams used that as a reference point?

agree. lots on here and ds said the same about james after his month of cover so its great they took him on board and we get to have him reguarly plus a deserved continuation of 3 days for sam and danni.

both seem popular, very good changes and hires and might this be the first time forums have been fairly happy ? 😂 jerry has also been very strong when given exposure on daytime, that will be brilliant cover
