I was being sarcastic when I asked if anybody had heard of it.

It's one of those literary classics I've never gotten around to reading, but finally managed to arouse some enthusiasm; it is definitely the best Bronte novel I feel.

I almost wish I could have a Heathcliff, alas, life would be more thrilling.

I'm reading the Moyles book at the moment.

My dad thought I was a huge Moyles fan and he was really surprised that I didn't want to buy his book when we were in Scotland... Well... I have only listened to Moyles one single time! Normally I'm in school when he's on air.

Anyway... good books?

I think this book is english/american: Blackbird by Jennifer Lauck. I've read it in danish, but it's really, really good!! It's about a girl (Jennifer Lauck). Her mother is very ill, she dies. Her father finds a new girlfriend and everything goes worng and so on.. Really good. But it's sad as well!

I'm reading a book called Vampire Nation. Its one of them non - story / made up things. Its so awesome. Its about the view that people have on vampires and how the 'ral vampires' are actually completely different to like Dracula and things. Its amazing.

I've been working my way through Women In Love by D H Lawrence on and off for a couple of months now. I'm getting through it - long train journeys are good for that - and it shouldn't take me that much longer. It is a rather strange book, with a little too much description and background in places, but it's good when things are happening.

I also read 'A Life Less Ordinary' in the past couple of days, finished it this morning. It's a really good book, and less heavy going than Women In Love. I have a pile of books to read with exciting titles like 'Biopolitics : a feminist and ecological reader on biotechnology' and 'Regenerating Agriculture' - I can't wait to get stuck in...

:)I love to read. I have about two full bookshelves full. Fantasy all the way!! :) Terry Brooks is amazing with his Shannara series; if you like fantasy then their great.

My other favourite author is Terry Pratchett and his Discworld Novels, I have loads of those, and I read them repeatedly :D

Im reading 1984 at the moment. Its dense, but once im into it its quite good. If description is your thing, then so is this book.

I've started reading that book so many times, I want to finish but I tend to just give up and read something else. Quite often, a magazine.

I've been at home doing very little for the past week, I found a copy of 'The Devil Wears Prada' which I'm really enjoying. I haven't seen the film yet, but I want to now! :)

In my quest to read more classics I've just finished reading Oscar Wilde's The Picture Of Dorian Gray, 'tis very very good. 1984 is one I probably should be reading as well. Am hoping to get the Russell Brand autobiography for Christmas so I'll probably be reading that next, haha.

I just read two books by Lee Child. He has a fantastic series about an em-military cop called Jack Reacher, who...does lots of cool things, basically. Its a great action series, I'd definitely recommend it. In order (courtesy of wikipedia), the books are:

Killing Floor

Die Trying

Tripwire

The Visitor

Echo Burning

Without Fail

Persuader

The Enemy

One Shot

The Hard Way

Bad Luck and Trouble

Nothing To Lose

As yet, I've only read Echo Burning and Without Fail, and I have One Shot to read later 8)

There's something wrong there!

I'm not reading anything at the moment, I will start reading something new when I have the time though, probably at home.

Every time I go into WHSmith, I despair at the state of books in this country. The only books they seem to sell are celebrity (auto)biographies and books in a section called "Tragic life stories". That's all people want to know about. Half the topsellers seem to be about people that were abused as children, it's just not right.

There's a whole section of the Smiths in my town which is devoted to my favourite books: Fantasy Fiction / Comedy Fiction / Sci-Fi Fiction :D I love it!! I guess real life just doesn't cut it.

My god, I've just realized I'm the only male on this thread so far. This dos not bode well for Literature :|

  • 4 weeks later...

I finished reading 'The Devil Wears Prada', which I loved. Then I watched the film, which I didn't love. They changed a lot of things, some minor details but some quite major story lines too. I think if I'd watched the film first then I would probably have enjoyed it.

For Christmas, my friend bought me 'I Lick My Cheese', which is very funny. It's basically a collection of stories and notes which housemates have written to eachother. Some are funny, some are just weird, but it's very amusing! :)

    • Yeah they make the weekend shifts go so much quicker. Like today, the piece about Matt falling asleep in the cafe was funny, it's clear to see why they're going to weekdays. It could well be they were thinking of Danny for it and like you say have decided against that, or like I said at the start it's James Cusack and the slow down on the announcement is him getting out of his contract. Remember he works for radio 1's main rivals. I think it's quite telling that he's doing more r1 cover than usual, tomorrow and then a further 3 weekend shows in a row
    • Nat in for Dean with Vicky between the 28th-30th May.
    • I suspect they’re gonna tie the announcement into something, or they’ve changed plans. I know we’ve said it as a joke but I wonder if Aled was planning on giving it to someone like Danny Beard, but he’s decided against that after the last few weeks. Seems clear to me, though, that if Jordan hadn’t left, then Katie would’ve taken Dean and Vicky’s slot and Matt and Mollie would’ve stayed on weekends, which probably explains why they haven’t picked a replacement yet. If it was going to be the obvious choice, I.e. James Cusack, surely they would’ve announced it by now..?
    • Yep think they mentioned that this is their penultimate weekend of shows but then they will also be on air during Big Weekend and they mentioned they'll be doing 'Party Anthems' on stage during Big Weekend which sounds intriguing. Will miss Matt & Mollie on weekends - they in particular have made that Friday afternoon slot their own - but they'll be great on weekdays. Do wonder if 'Summer on Radio 1' is just a placeholder name until they decide on who will cover the interim. While it's obviously not the case it does feel like they've forgotten there's that weekend afternoon slot to fill given no permenant presenter has been announced for it yet.
    • Zoe Ball is back on the breakfast show on Monday.
    • Just listening to matt and mollie at work and heard them say it's their second to last show on weekends
    • And Arielle mentioned in her Instagram post that her final early breakfast show is the 27th of June - the Thursday before Glastonbury
    • When Matt covered breakfast on 22nd April, he said their new show was starting in 10 weeks, so that’d be the 1st July.
    • Would love for it to be like the Summer Friday Thing that me and @DC were remisincing about recently. Lots of events going on that could easily form part of it.  https://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/summer/cardiff/thursday/1.shtml
    • I'm guessing there is also a stack of weekend events like Glastonbury
    • I think more likely it'll just be a temp presenter for weekends 1-4 to give Matt & Mollie time off, plus time to plan and pilot the new show.
    • Yeah I don’t think they’ll be anything that drastic - maybe a week or 2 of cover on early breakfast etc, but maybe just having that weekend afternoon slot covered over the summer means they can put someone on from September who maybe isn’t available until then?
    • But they said the main changes would happen in July.
    • But they said the main changes would happen in July.
    • I wouldn't be surprised if they do this around June time: 05.00 Ore Olukoga 07.00 Greg James 10.30 RMC 14.00 VKJ  That'll probably happen (for my guess) from the 17th June. And for weekends: 07:00 Sam & Danni 11:00 Gregor Davidson 15:00 Charlie Hedges Maybe Fridays aswell: 07:00 Greg James 11:00 Gregor Davidson 14:30 Jack Saunders
