Definitely feel like the "go to" stand-ins now.

Lack of genuine cover presenters.

Potentially only Katie or one of Rmc who are able to break off.

Aleds insistence on duos and trios is creating these problems.

I like S&D so not a bad cover

I don't think it's too big an issue.

As you say Sam & Danni can quite easily cover Greg or alternatively you do what happened with Scott & Moyles/Grimmy and have Matt & Mollie cover Breakfast and somebody else cover afternoons (presumably Sam & Danni).

I guess with duos and trios the advantage is even if one of the usual team is away you still have the other familiar voices and can either run a reduced line-up (e.g. just Rickie & Charlie if Melvin are away) or there's still one of the regulars alongside a cover DJ so it still feels a similar show to normal (e.g. James Cusack covering if Matt is away).

Matt & Moll should be the go to cover but I get why S&D are doing it being what I believe to be the one after next full time breakfast hosts.

That's probably what they want to avoid. Scott (and Chris) spent quite a lot of time away from drive/afternoons when taking into account their own time away, then X amount of weeks covering the breakfast show. It makes sense to use Sam & Danni going forward now they're familiar with the breakfast audience, and they did a decent enough job from the bits I heard. It'll disrupt the schedule less.

After the shock Jordan exit and shock (but welcome) promotion of Matt and Mollie to daytime we can't say anything for sure when speculating but Sam and Danni feel like the most natural next Breakfast presenters.  They are very good but age alone makes them the most serious contenders for a long-time Breakfast Show.

Nat and Vicky’s New show has been renamed to ‘Radio 1’s Group Chat with Nat and Vicky’

Wonder if someone at R1 is taking tips from here; I remember @BBCAaron suggesting Group Chat around a year ago as a daytime topical discussion programme similar to Life Hacks

I like Arielle as a stand in for Greg - wish she'd get used for more cover!

I do wonder if Matt & Mollie will be overall, but it's just too soon to take them off the new show. Needs a good run to settle them into the timeslot.

But then I'd be putting Sam & Danni in to cover afternoon, so I guess its much of a muchnesses in what slot each is.

She’s fully transitioned to the Dance family now and as she’s gonna be hosting a show every morning on the R1D station in a couple of weeks, I’d say it’s unlikely we’d see her on daytime cover now.

I think Jack will be the next breakfast show host. He's already the go to presenter for tv bits and hosts the chart and evening show.

Can't seeing him taking any other show on the network other than brekkie

Yeah it was a bit messy in the old days - you would have at least 6 weeks of Scott and chris covering for Moyles/Grimmy in the year, as well as odd days, so many times specially during the Grimmy era they were called last minute to swap into Breakfast

Then theywould both have about 6-7 weeks of a year as well, and many times not together so if Chris was off Scott would do the show solo and if Scott was off Chris would work with Matt, Alice, Jordan etc

Many times Scott would start his own leave after two weeks on Breakfast as well so you would get 4-5 weeks of no Scott on drive or lunchtime

I worked out just on the standard leave quota Scott was not on his own slot for three months a year plus any ad hoc days Grimmy used to call in sick, take a short notice day off etc (the one i remember vividly was the one where Grim was injured in the football match on the Sunday)

Shanequa is literally never on the radio. Was the same when she was supposed to cover Vick last summer. It was announced she was covering and then only did about 3 shows.

She’s covering the Euros for Newsround. I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s also in France for the Olympics soon. I guess this would have all been approved and known about when she took on the role.

Shame Benji B isn't joining Sian, think he has after previous dance weekends & they've done a good show together

    • It will be the usual plot to take down Radio 1 as the licence fee does not need 2 pop stations garbage
    • This is good press for the show esp doing breakfast I don’t normally listen to radio 2 my whole family are gonna listen aswell
    • Ruth Jones and James Corden, alongside other Gavin & Stacey cast members are hosting the breakfast show on Monday 23rd December.
    • Katie isn’t in today and on Thursday so I suspect Sam & Danni will be called up on Thursday to host with Vick.
    • And Sam and Danni are in for Jack on the chart on Friday with Connor covering early breakfast.
    • Looks like Emil is in with Jerry on Thursday
    • The article sounds like a load of nonsense. Isn't that how Radio 1 has always been to an extent? The likes of Moyles and Mills were hardly big names when they joined and same more recently was probably true for the like of Clara and Greg - though of course he's still on Radio 1. Over time they then become big names themselves. Plus if Radio 1 had kept the 'big names' you'd no doubt have the opposite article by the Daily Mail criticizing them for paying big money and not giving opportunities to newer presenters. And shock horror presenters leave stations over time - says it all that 2 of the examples in the graphic they gave of the 'exodus' are from 2021. And of the more recent ones you can hardly blame Jordan and Scott for going for the opportunities that were offered to them. And it's not like the station is 'full of nobodies'. Vick & RMC were big hires from commercial radio, Jack Saunders has fronted Glastonbury coverage, Greg is one of the most well-known radio names, Pete Tong is well-respected in the dance world and the likes of Danny Howard, Charlie Hedges and Arielle Free are also quite well known names in the dance world.
    • They can’t win lol if they had loads of big names they would have to pay loads
    • You've got to laugh at this article. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-14136793/dean-mccullough-bbc-radio-1-im-celeb.html From the people that complained about how much the wage bill is at Radio 1, to now complaining the station has low paid 'unknowns' on the roster.
    • Sian Eleri is of every other week
