7.00-11.00 Greg James

11.00-12.45 RMC

So RMC show will basically be 'Hello, it's us', followed by the news, then the Live Lounge and 'Goodbye, see you tomorrow'. 1.45 four days a week seems like a bit too short for three hosts 😁

Btw, still no news on weekend afternoons.

Hopefully it will cut into their Rickie Melvin or Charlie time lol, it's getting tiresome (to me).

Best New Pop is disappearing from the schedule after next Friday as well.

Long overdue decision, although it made more sense having the Friday EB presenters do it than Mollie pre-recording it, it should’ve been removed when Matt and Mollie moved to weekend afternoons back in 2021 and replaced with a wider new music show.

Makes sense now why no weekend afternoon slot announcement yet, with that slot disrupted so much over the summer. I suspect we may hear something later in July about that, maybe a September start date... Still fingers crossed James Cusack is involved though him covering solo some weeks in the meanwhile suggests the only way he'd be getting it is as part of a duo.

I think it will be a duo tbh but probably involving James. I think it’s their flagship weekend show now and with a duo coming off it I think it makes sense to put another on.

If I had to make a prediction I would say it will be James and Tinea Taylor.

I think Danny Beard will stick around as cover and to be used for events etc because they do have name recognition, and I think we’ll also hear more from Ore as well over the next few months (probably covering Early Breakfast and Nat and Vicky whenever they’re off)

Good shout on Tinea! James and Tinea would work for me.

I get your point about Danny but can only hope you're wrong!

This whole 'Summer Schedule' just seems a bit... pointless. No other station (that I know of) does it. The extra half hour of Radio 1 breakfast to 11am seems a little random, especially as it means the mid morning slot is just 1hr 45 long now, seems even more of a waste having a trio on there.

-An extra day of Sam & Danni is always good news. I only managed to catch weekend breakfast if I'm up every so often (or if I chose to listen back) and they're a good listen. They've been excellent on the breakfast show this week, in my opinion. Although... If they're giving that slot over to them from now till January, are they finally winding up the whole 'rotation' system on Friday early breakfast? Might have been worth giving someone the slot full time, whether that's Sam & Danni, Dean going to 5 days, or someone else.

-I just assumed that Martha had taken over that Tuesday night slot anyway, so not surprising in the slightest, that just confirms it

-I suppose with the weekend afternoon slot being given over to broadcasting from various festival, it makes sense to relaunch in September, although considering how far in advance previous changes have been published, they could've still said who was taking over... So maybe it's still undecided? It'll likely be another duo (although I think there are far too many now).

The press release says that the rotation will return in January 2025 - so it makes the whole thing a bit random? Are they struggling to find talent to do it?

This news probably means we won’t see Sam & Danni swapping onto weekend afternoons which I think is a massive shame. They have talent in abundance and could easily do a Matt & Mollie style show, especially if they’re stepping up to do weekday cover.

On that note, I’d like to see RMC, Matt & Mollie or Going Home take a whole week off together at some points during the year… means Sam & Danni could cover and you also break up the whole “double the time the show isn’t normal” situation.

Does that really make it make sense? Just because the new show wasn't going to start over the summer doesn't mean they couldn't have announced who was presenting it. Think about how many months in advance the Matt and Mollie move was announced.

I hope its James cusack and he's certainly on plenty at the moment.

Lets be honest does the station need another weekend duo or is it refreshing to have a singular presenter every now and again? I think we can all agree Katie was more than capable of doing the weekend shows by herself and you only have to listen to one show from james to work out he is. Weekends are already duo heavy with Sam and danni followed by Vicky and Nat, plus Lauren and shenqua on Sundays. Does it need to be james and another presenter (??) on top of that. Imo he more than keeps up the quality of shows by himself.

Around a year ago wasn't it singular presenter Adele followed by singular presenter Katie so the presenter load has doubled in them 2 shows alone, plus the additional presenter on the noughties show when Nat has actually been fine by herself for a long time.

I dont think my theory of him being held up with other work is correct anymore, but I do hope its james. His shows far overtake other covers in terms of entertainment

Arguably the Matt & Mollie one was unnecessarily early. If it's involving a presenter who still does some work for other networks, it makes sense not to go early to conflict with that.

We can speculate to death of course and we've seen many times recently that speculation is often wide of the mark. But let's just hope James Cusack is involved, he's far too good not to be on the station permanently.

The festival thing is in line with what’s already happened with Big Weekend and Download and was set to happen for Glastonbury and feels like a way to get through the summer before they hopefully make up their mind on  the weekend afternoon slot.

From a look at BBC Sounds it seems like non-festival weekends will be like they have been in recent non-festival weeks plus for TRNSMT for example the coverage is only on Saturday & Sunday - but that might be Radio 1 being slow to update the schedule unless your name is Jordan North and you're leaving.

I think most predicted the ramping up of the dance station and  both Arielle getting a regular slot there (though surely if it's 7 days a week quite a few must be pre-records) and Connor Coates getting a regular show.

Good to see another show too for Danny Howard though I do wonder since it’s called Dance Party warm-up it’s not on a Friday just before the main Radio 1 show. Currently there is that whiplash on Radio 1 proper whereas you go from Party Anthems to Chart back to dance with Dance Party. Though I guess if there's a regular drivetime slot on R1 Dance that would cover it to an extent.

Given their rising profile recently having Sam & Danni do Friday Early Breakfast for 6 months almost feels a slightly downgrade and something they've got beyond.

    • To be fair to Jamie, his attendance record isn’t exactly his fault and it doesn’t show that he’s uncommitted. Jordan’s shock departure meant they had to throw this show together and they’d didn’t have time to make everything work out. For that reason it’s likely that Jamie had all these prior commitments when he was offered the show and was told he could do the show and keep his commitments. If the Jordan situation was better they could’ve launched a long time later when Jamie was freer.
    • I think its sad that i dont listen anymore. Vick&Katie are both great and i have always been a huge fan of everything Katie does but i just cant listen with him on. I dont get it and camt relate sadly. Hoping he will go at some point. Matt&Mollie are smadhing the new show just wish i did not have to switch over at 3.30
    • They used to update it even if one of Vick or Jordan was solo:   https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001ssnb
    • Jeremiah is no longer listed to appear with Vick and Katie but is still listed for the Saturday evening show with Charlie Tee.
    • I guess the difference is that the show titles include all 3, so doesn’t need to be edited to include anyone? Whereas Going Home V1 had to add Katie in whenever someone was off? Agree on the features, I really like the “Airing Your Dirty Laundry” as that results in some really funny stories. I think it’s probably time to end Something Songs, it just sticks out a little bit now as they don’t do features at 4pm on the other days…  Personally think they could do with something like “Musical Mindreader” everyday around 5:30pm. A shorter feature which means they can still talk to Jack afterwards. Some days he’s too busy & others they’re filling for them, so it is a bit messy.
    • Agree with the above views. Jamie is still fine and he seems like a decent guy (or at least is able to act like one), but his attendance record really makes me question his position on the show. If he was so desperate for a radio shift then they should’ve put him on Friday early breakfast to prove his commitment.    The other thing I’m not really impressed with overall is the fact that the show seems to veer into generic awkward questions that have tenuous links to something going on. When the election took place they spent 30 minutes discussing words beginning with ‘E,’ which felt very Danny Beard-like in my opinion. This is probably a production decision because they’re all capable of engaging topics, as were Vick and Jordan before, and only seems to happen when it’s Vick and Katie alone. Do they deliberately downplay the pair so that the show seems better when Jamie is there? Vick mentioned on air how Jamie is Aled’s favourite and seems to have a lot of leeway with him, so he must be really keen to establish him, although I do think that ultimately the trio won’t stay together for more than a year or a year and a half, even if schedule changes elsewhere force them apart.    Features wise, it’s nice they’ve done some new things, and they’re definitely better than Judge Jordan. Moving the Something Songs to once a week makes sense given the show is quite short and they now have a handover with Jack most days.    Oh, and I wish they’d update the show page on BBC Sounds for which presenters are on each show like they used to with Vick and Jordan. I thought they weren’t doing this so social media/the press wouldn’t pick up on Jamie’s attendance record, but they don’t update it for RMC either so I’m guessing it must be a pain to constantly update the page every day (which is something that they’d probably have to do given that it seems Jamie is away most days). Oh, and fair play to Vick who has had only one week off since the show relaunched in March.
    • I just gave up completely I'm afraid. Will Manning on Capital is a much more pleasant listen even if I prefer Radio 1's music.
    • It's been a few months now and I listen most days while working, overall it's definitely not as good as Going Home V1. But, I do still enjoy the format...I like the way it moves onto something else every half an hour & that there's plenty of listener interaction with the questions etc. For me, the biggest issue with the show is Jamie. He seems like a nice enough chap, and I've even found him to be quite amusing/endearing at times. But I think his personality is much better suited to a podcast environment, because he says things which are too random, veering off course & he doesn't really respect the tight format of a show like this. Aled has clearly tried to make him 'work', as he has been paired with Matt, done some shows with Spencer Matthews & now apart of the Going Home trio, but I don't think he ever really will 'work'...for a whole host of reasons like I said above & the un-relatability factor. Just Vick & Katie together are superior, and it really shows up the fact that Jamie isn't needed - which doesn't help of course that he is off quite a bit, so you regularly get to hear this version of the show anyway. Ranking the pairings we have: 1st = Vick & Katie 2nd = Katie & Jamie 3rd = Vick & Jamie Katie is the glue that holds the show together & is the real reason I persist with it. She's much better at keeping Jamie in check & that is obvious during shows when it's just Vick & Jamie. They're virtually unlistenable imo.
    • Ellie Brennan in for OJ Borg last night and tonight (it was originally listed as Phil Williams). Gaby Roslin is on breakfast tomorrow and for the next couple of weeks
    • Harriet Jaxxon is in for Charlie Tee on Saturday 20th July. Phoebe I-H is in for Jaguar on Thursday 8th August. Ore Olukoga is on 13.00-16.00 on Saturday 10th, Sunday 11th & Friday 16th August. Connor Coates is in for Charlie Hedges on Saturday 10th August. Charlie Tee is in for Jeremiah on Saturday 10th August.
    • Though it's probably not new news Jamie is off again this Thursday. And hasn't made it in on time today either.
    • Chillest Show now 20:00 - 21:00 with Radio 1’s England Warm-Up at 19:00 - 20:00
    • Paddy O'Connell in for Liza Tarbuck on Saturday 27th July OJ Borg in for Paddy McGuiness on Sunday 28th July and Sunday 4th August.
    • Alyx is in for Daniel on Monday 15th July.
