To be fair to Jamie, his attendance record isn’t exactly his fault and it doesn’t show that he’s uncommitted. Jordan’s shock departure meant they had to throw this show together and they’d didn’t have time to make everything work out. For that reason it’s likely that Jamie had all these prior commitments when he was offered the show and was told he could do the show and keep his commitments. If the Jordan situation was better they could’ve launched a long time later when Jamie was freer.

I was going to try and be fair but then heard the final link of today's show and my goodness it was Danny Beard type fare because of Jamie. The content was appalling ('which fruit is the most underrated','off' and 'ice' combined together spells office) and the delivery just as bad.

They've tried to give Jamie the best chance - having him be Mollie's maternity cover alongside Matt and now putting him with two pros like Katie and Vick. You couldn't ask for better DJs to be put alongside.  However he still isn't getting any better.

The show simply does not need Jamie - I listened on the occasions he was away last week and the show was just far better without him. The issue with the quality of the show when Jamie is on is further highlighted by having Matt & Mollie on before who are only a few weeks into weekdays but already sound on top of their game.

The final link was appalling and clearly Jamie just isn’t cut out for live radio. ‘underrated fruit’ is such a boring and basic segment to have along with the ‘office’ joke and I think Jamie is trying to hard to fit in with DJs and it clearly isn’t his thing, same with Danny Beard.

Surely part of the issue is that they are trying to recreate some of the chaos that used to happen with Jordan.

The difference being that Jordan is one of the best DJs of the current time and knew exactly what he was doing to make great radio.  It is even more apparent now that he is on Capital and can be so tight and slick with his links.  He still has the odd funny mis-speak but it is obvious now how crafted the chaos was with him on Going Home to make great radio. In Jamie's case it is just random chaos.

I suppose that’s the main issue for the show. Jordan and Vick were so strong together and despite how random stuff was it all worked perfectly and was clearly crafted well, and I think the current Going Home is trying to replicate it but have no idea how to do it.

I also don’t think it helps that it’s now a whole new production team - they lost both Sophie (to breakfast) and Roushan (to produce Matt and Mollie) in the space of a month which I don’t think is ideal. I reckon the show now just needs some time to bed in with the new producers and try and find its feet again. There are definitely some good ideas there but I think it does just feel like a less good imitation of the old Going Home at the moment.

That’s a very good point. Matt and Mollie are (in a good way) sounding very much like peak Vick & Jordan at the moment, especially with their anecdotes and listener questions.

Now I know Going Home's attendance has been a bit of a topic of conversation on here over the last 12 months... so I thought I'd keep a tally of who appeared when from the start of 2025. This is from the first proper show of the year on Monday 6th January, right up to Thursday just gone (20th February) which was Katie's last show for a while as she heads off onto Maternity leave.

If we're classing a 'normal week' as Jamie appears for 3 shows but the ladies do all 4, they've only managed that for 3 out of the 7 weeks. (It was mentioned in week 4 that Jamie had swapped his 'day off' from Thursday to Wednesday)

Week 1:
M = Katie & Jamie
T = Katie & Jamie
W = Katie & Jamie
T = Katie, Sam & Danni

Week 2:
M = Vick, Katie & Jamie
T = Vick, Katie & Jamie
W = Vick & Jamie
T = Vick, Sam & Danni

Week 3:
M = Vick, Katie & Jamie
T = Vick, Katie & Jamie
W = Vick, Katie & Jamie
T = Vick & Katie

Week 4:
M = Vick, Katie & Jamie
T = Vick, Katie & Jamie
W = Vick & Katie
T = Vick, Katie & Jamie

Week 5:
M = Vick & Katie
T = Vick & Katie
W = Vick, Katie & Jamie
T = Vick & Katie

Week 6:
M = Vick, Katie & Jamie
T = Vick, Katie & Jamie
W = Vick, Katie & Jamie
T = Vick & Katie

Week 7:
M = Vick, Katie & Jamie
T = Katie & Jamie
W = Katie & Jamie
M = Vick & Katie

I almost feel like he should just be there as Katie’s cover, it will make the show a whole lot more consistent with Vick, Jamie and him presenting all the Going Home shows between them, and as you say, he sounds very good with Vick. (And as tomorrow shows, they don’t mind putting him on alone either!)

I agree about Emil. It's great that he's getting such high profile cover despite not being a full time presenter. Hopefully he's someone fully on Radio 1's radar in the next few years for a full time show.

I’ve always wondered why they rarely let anyone present Going Home Alone.  I would have thought Vick or Katie could do it alone, but they usually bring Sam and Danni in.

I seem to recall Vick and Jordan mentioning once on the 'At Home' podcast that they prefer presenting in a pairing/group these days. So while Vick might host solo sometimes it's only on rare occasions.

And with Going Home it's very much treated as a multi-person show. So while you can do the odd solo edition those in charge probably think you wouldn't want a week of it. Plus I guess it's a good chance to get Sam & Danni weekday practice and exposure (and same with Emil).

Because otherwise yep as you say Vick and Katie are both certainly capable of doing shows solo.

Katie mentioned in her Instagram stories last week that she was planning to return for Radio 1’s Big Weekend, but that’s not happening anymore. When do you think she’ll be back? It seems Vick is already on ‘pre-maternity’ leave—she’s barely been on the radio this month.

Considering that Vick doesn’t need Radio 1’s money (rich husband and other side jobs), when do you think she will go on leave, how long will she be away, and will she return to the radio station at all?"

And then - what would happen with Going home?

I sort of presumed Katie wouldn't be back until Autumn anyway.

But yep even by Going Home standards (and excluding Monday as it was a bank holiday) this past week was a proper 'Spin The Roulette' in terms of the line-up with 5 presenters used across only 3 days.

I do wonder how much longer Vick will be around - even ignoring the pregnancy (which hasn't been officially announced by her but seems an open secret) she has so many other commitments I'm surprised she's continued on Radio 1 as long as she has. Certainly of the original Going Home team if I was expecting one to leave it was Vick not Jordan.

Wouldn't shock me if (as seems to be the case) Vick is pregnant that when Katie gets back and Vick goes on leave, we get an announced 'maternity leave' line-up (perhaps including Jerry or Emil) to give a bit of consistency to Going Home.

Plus it could act as succession if a) Vick were to decide post maternity leave she doesn't want to return to a full-time role on Radio 1 or b) Jamie decides to leave at some stage.

I don't think Jamie is likely to leave anytime soon. Seems he really wanted to do this job, despite some people thinking he's not a great fit, so I suspect he'll be around for a while. Vick is indeed much more likely not to be on in a year from now I think.

It wouldn't surprise me if Vick Hope left at the end of the month and then I think Emil Franchi would host the show with Jamie Laing from Monday - Wednesday and then on Thursday either Emil would host the show solo or they would have Sam & Danni do it and then in September Katie will be back!

    • Intrigued why Matt & Mollie aren't presenting breakfast on Monday, with James in for them instead (which has happened before).. or even James given a chance to present the breakfast show?
    • Sam & Danni seem to be down for Breakfast on Monday. James Cusack on Going Home. That’s another new name in the list of “people who have hosted Going Home in 2025”.
    • Wednesday, surely? But this is another mess, as this weeks Summer press release said it’ll be Sam & Danni no Jamie from the 28th - so it’s actually a whole week earlier!
    • Jamie Laing’s last show before his summer break will be on Wednesday 16th July.
    • I worked out once Scott spent 3 months of a year off his own slot in the Moyles days and more like 4 in Grimmys days, six weeks of his own holiday and projects, six covering Grimmy plus some ad hoc days
    • Back on topic, I think there's quite a few of the current Radio 1 presenters who would be able to adapt to Radio 2's style in the future. It's more of question of how many of them will actually end up there. With much of R2's line up changed over the past couple of years, it's quite possible we won't see much movement there, and R2 management might even decide to look elsewhere to bring in new presenters in future.
    • With OJ covering on bank holidays. She is the best person for the job however... they're going to end up with a situation like Scott covering R1 breakfast back in the day, where she spends quite a bit of time off her own slot covering Breakfast, plus her own holiday and other commitments. She's been filming for something recently which has meant she's been off several days a week since May. She was off last week, on breakfast this week, OJ is on Mon/Tues next week, then She's off the following two weeks.
    • Looking back at this I would say now that Sara is the main cover - I think she has been reestablished as it now
    • Purley on the R1 Dance station.. Someone on DS said don't expect to see any changes to the schedule on the new stations however if they are taking on Capital Dance with this, which they clearly are, which has live presenters 7am - 10pm except for the 11am mix then they'll surely have to have a proper scheduled set of shows. At the moment Arielle is the only "live" per say show and only "live" a few days a week with earlier shows being repeated Thursday Friday and Saturday. Connor and Charlie are clearly pre records but was this only for the time it was online only and they have already got a schedule ready to go on day 1? also of note is that Charlie is taking over a podcast as well as starting a new project with podcasting which makes me wonder if she is about to step back from Dance Anthems all together to concentrate on those and Connor takes over? So you could have Arielle doing 9-12 weekdays live then someone else 12-3 and Connor live 3-6 on R1D and doing Dance Anthems on a Saturday.
    • As none of the Going Home Team aren't currently on the air, that's a bit if an issue. Considering most of the Dance DJs will be out there, I'm surprised none of them are being utilised to host the 1-4 slot that weekend.
    • Going Home presenters have done the last few years ?
    • Nat and Vicky are being sent to Ibiza this year. They’ll be live on Friday 1st August from 1-4pm.
    • Since Radio 1 Dance and Anthems have been allowed to broadcast on DAB, do we think they’ll be a proper schedule of shows like on Radio 1 Dance with the morning show and Dance Anthems at drive time. Maybe Lauren Redfern, Tyler Selby, Chrissy Cameron or Matt Hallsworth will be scheduled on named shows like Hits Radio 00s or Capital Anthems rather than the generic ‘Radio 1 Anthems’ show. Obviously it would probably cost more to produce actual shows on the station however.
    • There's been a lot of positive reaction to the Mylo and Rosie news so am interested now to hear what their shows are like. And yep wouldn't be surprised if they stay on beyond July as cover ever so often. And that Friday-Sunday news was hidden in the small print a little. It presumably means we lose Party Anthems all that month as that is what has happened this year with Big Weekend, Glasto for example. I certainly I hope it isn't Party Anthems being quietly axed full stop - it and Future Pop are 2 real hidden gems on Radio 1.
    • I’m pleased for Mylo and Rosie, they were highly thought of in our local area and definitely worthy of that slot
