Saw on a fb group that Arielle turned up to Charlie Hedges’ Saturday show sounding a bit drunk slagging off one of the songs, anybody else hear?

[Clip attached]

I think she’ll have to start the show with an apology if she’s on tonight

Edit: Sian Eleri’s in tonight

I assume the producer wouldn’t have known what she was going to say

What would you do with Arielle A. Ensure she’s apologised and make it the end of the matter. B. Take her off a show or two C. More?

To me it is at the lower end of the scale but that’s because Charlie had the sense to cut her off straight away which I think is to stop her saying worse or embarrassing herself further rather than just slagging off the song.

I don’t think what Arielle did is really an issue. She just said she hates the song and what is it talking about. I mean even the occasional swears get out sometimes and it’s no big deal. Though there is usually an apology for those. So one quick apology would be enough for this.

Though I’m surprised Charlie didn’t apologise at the time.

You could hear her shouting after Charlie took her mic down, but I would say it was pretty irresponsible of whoever let her on air in the first place if she was clearly drunk.

Could have been worse. Nothing on the scale of Scott after the brits - I always wondered why the producers let him do that show, is it just that times have changed?

That clip was a bit yikes. Guessing it was a bit hectic in Ibiza otherwise you'd assume they'd not be anywhere near that studio drunk.

But I do worry about Arielle, she misses early breakfast a lot and it sticks out when there's no cover.

Perhaps Arielle really is in trouble seeing as she’s been removed for the week now.

She posted on insta but not radio 1 related. I suppose it gives Radio 1 a few days to decide action going forward or whether it’s felt that she over did it and needs a few days off

I think the station would have right to give a cautionary warning. Don’t think she deserved to be taken off air for a week if and likely is a managerial decision seems bit OTT.

If I was Charlie I would’ve immediately gone to fade both mics off and switch to having a couple of tracks until the atmosphere is sorted and hope to be able to speak more no more of it on-air. I wouldn’t want to be responsible for mentioning about get of the mic and make the drama stand out to the listener.

I’ve never heard that song before chucked it on, on Apple Music by god Arielle did have a point to it. I think the whole thing seemed an over reaction

You don’t know what happened off air though. Not a good idea to go on air pissed lol

With Arielle missing early breakfast that’s radio 1’s fault for not having an on call presenter to cover which you’d expect a station like Radio 1 to have - especially the solo presenter shows. Give them a small fee to be within a certain radius of the studio

When asked about the on-air exchange, a BBC spokesperson told RadioToday: “Whilst we would not comment on individual matters, we have strict codes of behaviour for staff and presenters, and any breaches are taken extremely seriously.”

    • Bank Holiday Monday Schedule 6am-10am: Arielle Free in for Greg 10am-2pm: Dean & Vicky (No Rickie, Melvin & Charlie) 2pm-6pm: Vick & Jamie (No Katie) 6pm onwards: As normal.
    • Dare I say they've sounded great this past week?  Very much gelling.  Maybe less pressure?  Seem to be having a genuinely good time and not forcing things.
    • I'm in the minority in my workplace, most of them love country music.  Me, the American, does not care for it.  That said, I haven't haaaaaated some of the country adjacent stuff that's been on the R1 playlist.
    • The Eurovision semi finals are on from 8 to 10pm on Tuesday 7th and Thursday 9th May with Richie Anderson. That means Sara Cox in on till 8 on those days.  Saturday 11th May is Eurovision 'Super Saturday... 1-3pm Your Ultimate Abba song with Gary Davies  3-6pm Michelle Visage's Eurovision All Stars 6-8pm Eurovision Request Party with Owain Wynn Evans 8pm Eurovision Grand Final with Scott Mills and Rylan Clark
    • It is funny because everyone thought Matt was on the way out, now he's been described as the heir to Mills.
    • Some similar names to Big Weekend.  Sabrina Carpenter, David Guetta, Perrie, Bradley Simpson, Jax Jones, Caity Baser, Benson Boone, Rudimental. David Guetta is a good name.
    • Still Scott for me. I'm not too much into the 70s and 80s radio 2 play but do love the injection of 90s and 00s. Then Radio 2 push for all this country stuff and it not a UK thing, and I frankly don't like it. Scott's show as in features, hit and miss. I like the music police bit, but it feels like someone needs to join him. It's a shame Chappers is so busy with sports, as it feels like it could do with someone like him jumping on to help. Or a new partner. Radio 1, take or leave. Matt and Mollie are OK from what I've heard and share a good connection, but it's the playlist that throws me off. They could bring back Chris Moyles to do that show, but as soon as something like Headie One comes on with that casino keyboard produced crap. It would still be switched off from me.
    • Reading through this thread, I don't feel quite so alone now, in thinking that Scott Mills on R2 is not a good 'fit' (even less so than on R5).  I can't quite explain why this is so - I just know it to be so.
    • Arielle has been on holiday for the last 2 weeks getting married / honeymoon.  It'll be live from this week onwards.
    • CassKidd is in for Sian on Sunday 5th May.
    • The brought to tiers feature was also very good from them. I did wonder which DJ's were going to get picked out of the hat, that could have gone one way or the other and the caller said they were very opinionated lol. Correct decision putting katie in god tier!
    • The extended Dua Lipa track from M&M was very funny. I'm hoping Matt and Mollie and Scott have a good relationship a bit like Greg and Zoe collaborate on-air sometimes.
    • Gary Davies in for Vernon Kay tomorrow (Monday 29th April).
    • When Scott and Chris announced their departure from R1, I remember there was lots of speculation about who would take over the 1pm slot. Matt and Mollie were talked about a lot on here, and at the time I really didn't rate them as a replacement. A few years on, I see that I was totally wrong. They are such a good pairing, and it's the same kind of duo as Scott and Chris, in that they are real life friends, who spend time together in their real lives, which really does come across on air. True friends having a laugh together, and everyone is invited is how it feels to me now. I never thought about it before, but I agree with @coffeeandgin that Mollie is the Scott of the duo - pop obsessed and maybe a litte ditsy, but so funny, and in need of someone to anchor to or bounce off.  It seems that Matt is the kind of Chris of the duo then in that comparison, the one with the ideas, but also needs another person to make the magic happen. I know I'm outside of the R1 demographic, and maybe Dean and Vicky were meant to be younger and fresher, but I'm sure in my younger years I would have preferred to listen to two people who had a genuine connection and could really make each other laugh, as well as have the listeners laugh along. That was the Scott and Chris factor for me, and I think the only pair that come close to that now are Matt and Mollie.
