I heard something about this being trailed ahead - he said he was being joined by another Radio 1 DJ.

Is it Comic Relief related perhaps?

Posted

I think it is, it was almost 2 years to the day that they announced the last lolathon, so fingers crossed another one. If not then probably a different kind of challenge with a different DJ, probably Jordan!

With the Red nose day trails also around at the moment and  it being Scot and Chris.
I guessing it going to be some sort of red Nose day challenge, which with everything going on some sort of lolathon or something similar would make sense.

I hope it is another lolathon. Feels like the last one was forever ago! Or I’d like to see them tackle a marathon broadcast! But, with all the COVID rules in place, maybe wouldn’t be so great without someone walking in as a surprise guest or being able to play many games.

Lol indeed - It is ten years since the 52 hour show - maybe it's an attempt at that Scott Chris and Greg together?

My first thought was another LOLathon. Scott mentioned it during a show last month about how much they really enjoyed doing it.  The fact both Scott & Chris are on suggests it is that. It's something they could pull off during current times (more so than another Greg 'stunt'), and very much needed in my opinion!

Admittedly, i didn't listen to the radio this morning so i forgot Greg wasn't on. Was he scheduled to just have today off? Could be totally unrelated. I'd say that it being Comic Relief is likely but who knows... guess we'll find out tomorrow.

Greg was Scheduled to take today off. I am sure he mentioned it as well on Friday, that he would be back  on Tuesday.
I know Mat and Mollie knew about as they talked about it over the weekend.

If it was a 3 way LOLAthon,  it going to take some organizing, with only 2 people being allowed in studio at once.  But it is the sort of think that the 3 of them would do.  If there is anyone at radio 1 who would attempt to break the record it would be them.

I think with zoom it could very much work, alongside the use of the 2 two person studios.
if it is a lolathone or related, it would need a lot of planning and logistical work but it is very much doable.

My list of suggestions includes some unlikely and ridiculous

Greg’s taking a sabbatical and Scott/Chris are going to take over breakfast as their final radio 1 hurrah.

Lolathon or longest radio 1 show

Scotts departure

Equivalent to Radio 1 big weekend being announced.

hide and seek

Radio 1 are going on a vaccination roadshow

They could do it so he broadcasts from one of the BBC local studios and we have to guess which one using clues.

Hadn't thought about the restrictions on the studio, loved it when they had all the Northern DJs in one room last time.

Studio restrictions are probably one of the biggest difficulties at the moment.

There are some good suggestions here.
Greg On sabbatical maybe,  he been doing it for 2 year, it probably a good time.    Scot Chris  would be a good temporary host of the show. I would guess that Jordan would then take what is now Scot and Chris show.

Lolathon, or longest show, i think this is the most likely think.

Scot Departure, surely he would do this on his own show.

big weekend, or similar.  was my first thought. I was thinking end of summer, when hopefully the world is back to normal.

hide and seek, very much doubt at this stage. October half term I would guess would be the best time.  but if they did do it now this would be a good idea.

Vacation roadshow. Maybe.
But I think if this was going to happen it would guess it would happen when vaccine are being given to people more within the target audience for radio 1

I doubt it's anything to do with the future of any of the DJ's. They wouldn't trail a departure announcement. Slightly off topic but as i've seen it mentioned above as a guess, Scott's departure has been speculated for years now. Management must be happy to keep them on otherwise they probably would've departed under the last changes. I still think they'll be in that slot this time next year. The fact Greg has only just increased to 5 days, i'd say it's nothing to do with his future on R1 Breakfast.

As has been commented by several other members, i agree it'll likely be an announcement for an on air 'event' such as Comic Relief. The other thought i had (before Scott said it's him joining Greg tomorrow) was regarding filling the void of Big Weekend. Of course it looks unlikely it will take place this year, and there's been no announcement regarding that matter.

I think it has to be a marathon event

I am going with - 10 years almost to the month of the 52hr show so I reckon they (Scott, Chris and Greg) are going for something like 70 hours maybe

Start on Breakfast on Wednesday and finish at 4pm Friday for the chart to start with Kaite and Vick ?

    • 28th January Mo Ayoub in for Benji B Have noticed that Jamie will be working on the Wednesday the week he is back, this is something he didn't do for a while before he went on paternity leave.
    • Who do we think will be on at Radio1's Big Weekend this year? I could see the following being on: Geese, Royal Otis, Skye Newman, Sienna Spiro, Olivia Dean, Raye, Hayley Williams, Jim Legxacy, Katseye, Tems, Fcukers, Sekou, Honey Dijon & Sub Focus
    • I made the point as normally hoarding would give details as to who taking over the unit not promoting the offices above. Also with the launch of Global Studios and doing more podcasts they might want/need to have more podcast studios.
    • James Cusack on the Chart today.
    • So presumably Jerry/Emil will still pop up on Thursdays and in Jamie's absence until Vick returns.
    • Sian Eleri in for Jack Saunders All Next Week on The New Music Show
    • Jerry is show to be on on Thursday 12th January 2026
    • Half is going to be capitals new music storage facility for the 2 songs added every 6 months and the other half is a new planning room for how many spinoff stations they are going to launch in the next 12 months Rumour is 432
    • OJ Borg in for Sara Cox on Thursday 29th January, Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th February. Jason Mohammad in for Owain for the week starting Monday 2nd February. Michelle Visage in for Elaine Paige on Sunday 25th January and 1st February. Saturday 7th February: Josh Widdicome in for Dermot O'Leary and Sophie Ellis Bextor in for Gary Davies on Sounds Of The 80s.
    • 9th Feb & 10th - Jamie Laing returns to Going Home with Katie Thiselton The Schedule hasn't updated on the Wednesday & Thursday Yet
    • Just wondering if anyone knows what is going on at Global's HQ.  The restaurant underneath formally TGI Friday closed last year.  I noticed on social media in the last week or so that hoarding has gone around it. The hoarding has the Global logo printed all over it with the old TGI signs cover with Global logo and info to. Has Global taken over the space? With higher ceilings and more space it would make great place to build new studios for radio, podcast and news.
    • 22nd January/2nd-5th February Emil Franchi joins Katie on Going Home.
    • Back to reality, back together Scott opened the first full week of January fully aware of the collective mood, returning after time away with a gentle reset rather than a fanfare. From the outset, the tone was shared reality rather than forced energy — early alarms, routine returning, and the sense that everyone was easing themselves back into normal life together. He acknowledged the messages already coming in, thanking listeners for being there and framing the programme as familiar company after the Christmas break. The emphasis was on togetherness rather than momentum — the show settling back into its rhythm alongside the audience. Almost immediately, the focus widened to the team, with Scott greeting Ellie and Tina on air and establishing where everyone was at physically and mentally after the holidays. It felt deliberately conversational, a soft landing rather than a launch. Tina, Ellie and the reality of January graft The early chat quickly turned practical. Tina checked in from a place of completion rather than chaos, explaining that delivery season was done and that the busiest period of the year was finally behind her. Scott picked up on the irony that this didn’t quite mean rest, pointing out Tina’s continued presence across the schedule and joking about the concept of “days off in lieu”. Ellie’s Christmas output became a talking point, with Scott admitting he’d listened back to her festive shows — selectively — to hear how she handled long-form hosting. Ellie played it down, describing the period as busy but enjoyable, with lots of moving parts and people involved. The dynamic was relaxed and familiar, built around teasing, affirmation and shared experience rather than formal links. It re-established the trio as a unit after the break. Illness, listeners and “Robot Ellie” A message from a listener prompted a health check-in, with Scott revealing he’d heard about Ellie’s flu before hearing it from Ellie herself. That gap between on-air persona and real-life updates became part of the humour, with Ellie explaining she’d posted online asking whether she could “just go to bed” and admitting she’d woken up with “tonsils the size of golf balls”. Scott reacted to the idea of finding things out via listeners rather than colleagues, which quickly spiralled into the creation of “Robot Ellie” — an exaggerated, AI-style version of Ellie who would simply respond, “Hello, I’m here. If you need help.” The joke ran lightly through the hour, becoming shorthand for January exhaustion, automation and the slightly unreal feeling of being back at work. The quiz returns and first-of-the-year nerves The Easiest Quiz on the Radio returned with its first contestant of the year, framed by Scott as a low-stakes way back into routine. There was some self-reflection on scores and expectations, with Scott noting how the quiz often sounds easier than it feels in the moment. As answers were talked through, hesitation and second-guessing became the familiar downfall, with Scott gently narrating how the contestant had “talked yourself out of the right answer”. The tone stayed supportive rather than competitive, marking the quiz as comfort radio rather than jeopardy. The round closed with thanks rather than drama, reinforcing the sense that this was about easing back in, not proving anything. Good Morning Minute and shared January voices The Good Morning Minute returned as a familiar burst of voices, with Scott attempting to fit as many names, jobs and locations as possible into sixty seconds. He acknowledged that the delivery sometimes falters, sometimes flies, and that both outcomes are part of the format. Messages reflected the January reality — people back at work, back on shifts, back in routines — and Scott leaned into the idea that simply being up and moving counted as a win at this point in the year. The segment acted as a bridge between Christmas intensity and everyday normality, grounding the show in lived experience rather than seasonal spectacle. TV catch-up and The Traitors energy Later conversation turned to television, with Scott checking whether Ellie had caught up on The Traitors during the break. The chat moved easily into observations about contestants, authority, body language and presence, with Scott remarking on how certain people simply look like police officers. There was light speculation about who might appear on the show later in the week, teased without commitment, keeping the focus on conversation rather than promotion. • Thanks for posting these! I've been looking for any clips/full shows from the late 90's and through the 00's and early 2010's. I found one a while back on Mixcloud from August 2000 with Clive Warren on weekend early breakfast into Mark Goodier on Saturday breakfast (which i believe was his last 'regular' show outside of chart and was replaced not long after leaving him with just the chart for his final 2 years)
