Radio 1 Schedule Changes

18th January:

11pm-1am: Mo Ayoub sits in for Benji B.

It does seem like going forward that Radio 1's Power Down Playlist is moving to the graveyard slot of 3am-4am in the new year from the 11th January and going from 3 days a week to 2 days on Wednesday and Friday morning. Radio 1's Essential Albums seems to be the replacement in the 10pm-11pm slot, Monday-Wendesday.

Unless theres an announcement to be named of a future programme change for 10pm-11pm Mon-Wed in new year. I had feeing it couldn’t last but feel that Future Alternative Playlist could work in the slot on one of the days can imagine Essential Albums would be there for short time. Would like to see more done with the ‘Future’ name like ‘Future Fusion’ with mix of world music, electro-jazz, asian/Afrobeats, Future Funny with fresh stuff from comedians like stand-up and original comedy programming. Could even have Future Bars of future rap

I feel like they should move some of the specialist shows that are on at 11pm like the Rock Show, Annie Nightingale and Benji B up an hour to 10pm and all the other 1 hour shows that seems designed to broadcast for the purpose of being made for BBC Sounds to 12am onwards. I do agree though they could do a Future Rap show, yes 1Xtra is already a core part of Rap/RnB but Radio 1 is critical to them playing Grime and Rap.

Shereen Cutkelvin doing early breakfast on Friday for 3 weeks. Don't think I recognize that name unless I'm wrong somewhere.

Jordan and Katie doing drivetime 6th - 9th February. I thought they'd have had him solo now and then on drive.

Maia Beth is on for 2 weeks from 2nd February, then Mollie King returns on the 16th doing Future Pop 8pm-10pm on Thursday.

Interestingly, I don't think they've ever used Maia as daytime cover have they - never had her in for Dean & Vicky or RMC? Do you think she'll cover Dean & Vicky's show?

I heard from a tip-off that Vick Hope may be covering Hallam FM breakfast for a week in March and then doing her Going Home with Vick & Jordan show later on in the day. However, it's not entirely confirmed yet, they haven't confirmed Big John's cover presenter for then.

But this would be a surprising thing for her to do? Doing two shows a day isn't that odd for some presenters, but for someone of her profile/status?

Barely anyone has covered anything on daytimes due to the way they’ve been doing things with RMC and Vick and Jordan. It’s mainly Matt Edmondson and Katie Thistleton that are responsible for daytime covering. Emil Franchi has just started his foray into it. Why do you think Maia Beth should be doing it?

Hallam FM would be very surprising for Vick to cover on. Where did you get that from?

I think it's probably based on from when I've heard they used to get new presenters covering daytime or how the BBC locals had their weekend presenters covering; I seem to remember Kat Cowan doing a few daytime shows now and then on BBC Radio Sheffield even though she's a producer for some shows - can't remember when.

I wrongly thought Radio 1 was managed like that, but it's not.

IIRC, Vicky Hawkesworth did some daytime cover on Radio Manchester now and then as well as her Friday night show before she did Dean & Vicky.

I think I got it wrong somewhere.

My source works in radio (sales side of it) and wishes to remain anonymous, but they've heard claims about Vick doing cover on Hallam FM breakfast since about Christmas.

    • OJ Borg is in for Trevor Nelson on the Rhythm Nation tonight (with Phill Williams on overnight). He's also in for Michael Ball for the next two Sundays (12th and 19th May). Ros Atkins (BBC's Analysis editior) is in for Jeremy Vine on Thursday. Another new name to Radio 2 is Oliver Hides from BBC Radio Wales. He sat in for Owain Wynn Evans yesterday and he's in again this Thursday (9th May) and Bank Holiday Monday (27th) Spoony in for Scott Mills from Tuesday 28th till Friday 31st May.
    • Thought they would make it easier to get to this event. There's been no communication from the council or organisers about travel, even though there's talk of train strikes. Smaller councils have done a better job.
    • They do sound good together, but I'm not sure Rylan will want the extra commitments.
    • I have accepted Chris is unlikely to join Scott's show, and that Chappers has moved on, but I still think he could do with a co-host. The most logical solution, I think, is Rylan. He appears more often on his show than not, and they are great together. Radio 2 could lose Rylan's Saturday show and extend his reach by appearing during the week. I think they'd be great!
    • Tattoo took a while to grow on me. I couldn't see the fuss until weeks after. We have a split household here where the war on Gaza is overshadowing an enjoyment. I'm hoping for a protest of some sort.
    • I've heard that the staging is very impressive.  That and him being "known" might prevent an embarrassing result.  I'm a terrible judge of Eurovision though as Tattoo is still so very meh to me.
    • Feels like after the success of Sam Ryder we are going back to our old ways. Olly Alexander's song is pretty weak. Anyone fancy our chances this year?
    • The more time goes on the more you think if they'd actually put some thought into it it should've been Vick & Katie from the start. A proven pairing and Katie ended up on the show anyway - whereas Katie's even mentioned she was only asked to join after the Jamie announcement And even by Going Home standards on time off, it's quite funny that a few months in we still haven't had a full week of the supposed line-up - and that's with a 4-day week.
    • I heard something about what is your favourite wood? Wtf 😂
    • Was the same vibe on the Easter Monday show they did too. Just random questions and the like…. Katie is definitely the glue around making the show listenable.
    • Vick and Jamie together are quite… awkward. Random discussion seems to be at an all time high without Katie. Maybe it’s just that there’s a lack of features today.
    • Jamie not even knowing about the big weekend day and the fact he starts the show at 14:00 just says everything.
    • I still haven’t forgiven Radio 1 for signing Laing. Vick and Jordan was good, you could hear the chemistry on air
    • I just want to add though that I am beginning to enjoy the show a bit more now that it’s settled in - I think Jamie (when he’s there) has calmed down a bit and then the new features that have been progressively added over the last couple of weeks have been good too.    I still don’t think it’s a patch on Vick and Jordan together, but it is now a show that seems like it could have legs into the future and once Matt and Mollie start in July, I could see myself sticking with R1 all afternoon.
    • I think it’s a slimmer line-up and seems to fall short in previous years where it seemed almost double that I know Raye is booked to perform and is a headline name. I think the issue with a station like capital they are dealing with a rather lacklustre year for pop and theres no real big pulls for pop festivals that are an easy sell out right now. I think Capital has had seen it’s Capital Ball’s as for any generic pop music listener I don’t know whether Bradley Simpson, Aitch and Paul Russel have the universality to play in a stadium even Sugababes think it would be better if they chosen a smaller outdoor location or Wembley arena.
