Missing Chappers

So listening to Scott tonight for the first time since Chappers departure and I felt the show was rather poor. Same tired features and the banter between Scott and Beccy is alright but rarely provides any true comedy moments, like with Scott and Chappers. Its the first time I've listen to the show this year, but from just tonight's show I'm kind of disapointed. Was tonight's show just a one off or is this now how the show sounds without Chappers. Noticing also Scott is relying a lot more on audience interaction than previously.

Feel free to agree or disagree but I think the show is really missing Chappers and needs to fill that gap !

Honestly, I'm not missing him all that much. Listening back to old podcasts Becky has stepped up her role on the show and developed in to a really good sidekick, which is a skill that is not as easy as people like Comedy Dave make it look. She and Scott have got great chemistry and I'm still really enjoying the show at the minute.

The show has taken a different direction. Chappers is certainly part of the golden days and I'll miss that but, as The Stig says, I enjoy the rapport of Beccy and Scott. It's more consistent now too - Chappers used to be away a lot for sporting commitments.

The show really misses Chappers though when Becky isn't in. I enjoy listening to Scott more when he's with someone, (though I still think he is the best "solo" DJ on Radio 1 even though it rarely happens) therefore I'd like it when Becky is off if they could get someone to "fill in for her" in similar style to how Matt Willis did with Chappers a couple of years ago.

I don't really miss him much, I must say..

I like Scott best when he is completely on his own, with no sidekicks, and the personality gets more of a chance to shine though (without all the constant, and often unnecessary interruptions).

New Scott is completely diluted with an obscene amount of years old podcasts ive been listening to on my MP3 since Christmas. So fortunately, im still getting Chappers on a regular basis :)

But it is heartbreaking to listen to. Everything that was the Scott Mills show completely wiped out now by an over cautious BBC (kind of understandable I suppose).

Flirt Divert. What a massive hole left in the show.

Hey mate. I think when Chappers first left it was a little different. However you should have heard Scott and Becky with Jedward, and the Brits show. It was always going to be odd but honestly you will get over it.

I think Scott & Becky are doing great. Stick with it mister man.

Love

Andy Mac

Actually I missed Chappers most when Jedward were there, that would have been funny.

    • The BBC commissioning brief mentions it is a 'mid morning show' for Radio 1 Dance https://www.bbc.co.uk/commissioning/radio/documents/comm_brief_r1_dance_morning_show.pdf
    • Nothing to apologise about, I was just intrigued on how DS and UM react
    • I would be pretty confident that if they keep avoiding using James Cusack on that slot over the next few weeks, then it will probably be him that gets the show permanently!
    • That’s two names who probably won’t be doing that slot permanently then.
    • Moyles spent most of the 52hr sgow calling him that lol
    • I stand guilty as charged as the DS poster.... It was I Okay, so yes Connor has good energy and does the show well, I take it back, however, my last experience of him he spent every other link saying "It's Connor Coates in for the ledge that is Charlie Hedges" and then he started saying "Clem Douglas" - again after critisising that I see she is styled as that sometimes The point I was trying to make was, yes we know it's Charlies show, we know she is a ledge, and we know she is not here today, no need to keep reminding us Regards R1 dance, I suspect Arielle is pointed at the drivetime slot to go against Mistajam unless we know it is breakfast that will be live ? Apologies to Connor and anyone offended by my comments, was just going on my past experience of Mr Coates, who seems to be a very competnt presenter
    • I know we have discussed this before, but can someone shed some light hoping @Lily Georgia can help Since the Wogan House closure, and 1-330 from Manchester, studio 82A (Mills) has been used by Scott's R2 show, in fact i note that him and Grandad Nelson are from there now days The question I have is with 1-330 coming from London again soon, who is getting a new studio? will Scott move to one of the newer ones down the corridor or will he remain in 82A and M&M get a new studio They cannot use 82D as that is used for drive, and currenlty 82A is in use by Scott from 2-4pm In the old days it used to be 82A for Greg, Scott, Annie and 82D Adele, RMC, Drive, Jack I note that Jack is in a brand new studio so maybe M&M will come from that one as well, maybe the same one as Vine uses?
    • Maia Beth is doing Friday Early Breakfast on 7th & 14th June.
    • Joel Mitchell is in for Nat on Sunday 9th June.
    • Ore Olukoga is on 13.00-16.00 on Friday 31st May and Friday 7th June.  Nikita Kanda is doing Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June.
    • Very pleased for producer Amy - it's no coincidence many of the best shows in recent years have had her working on them. You can tell her & Helena are a great production duo and that the whole Matt & Mollie team are a really close-knit unit in general. Some lovely speeches by both Matt & Mollie too to end the show on Sunday.
    • Echo what most have said here. Connor has great energy which is important for that sort of slot and the shame for him is that the dance line-up is so strong that there's no obvious 'in' for him to get a regular slot -Danny, Sarah, Pete Tong, Arielle, Charlie Hedges, Jerry and Charlie Tee are all great in their slots. A live show on Radio 1 Dance really feels the obvious way to get a proper foot in the door at Radio 1. Although to be fair to the DS critic I think it was just the one poster and can very much hear Connor in my head saying 'in for the legend that is Charlie Hedges'.
    • James Cusack is in for Jack on Friday 14th June, doing the chart while Jack is at Download.
    • I remember hearing Amy first on Scotts show and she was great on that, the daft quiz questions always made me smile. It's really nice to see the hard work has paid off for them all.
