If Chris and Sian stay on

It sounded like they would. Otherwise you’d have thought that they would all have announced that they were leaving the show together.

I do think this is worrying times for radio 1. As an old head I recall Moyles leaving but you felt there was a solid guaranteed future for the station. Scott still there, big experienced names to sort stuff out when it got tough. It was the same when Mark and Lard went, Simon Mayo, Chris Evans etc years and years back. But now it feels like with Jordan North going it's going to sound like a load of teenagers giggling amongst themselves. And I point to mid mornings on that imo. Radio 1 need a big young star who can present, and who's already popular to come in and create a fuss. And I mean someone who can be relevant for the next gen, not radio 1s current target audience. Aim for 2030.

As one of the others on here with slightly more Radio 1 hours behind us - I would agree completely here.

I think what Jordan was, was the bridge between older and new.  I think Greg, RMC and Matt leaving would have been smoother with Jordan there.   They really need Greg to stay for at least 2 years now.

Well no one of Jordans level has ever gone from mainstream Radio 1 to the main competitor. It's a bit of a disaster really.

I'm not sure Greg will stay, the reason being Jordan North is up against him with a brand new fresh breakfast show with Chris Stark. That's a big offering. Greg meanwhile is however many years in and it's not fresh. You can see listeners flooding over to Capital

Disagree. I think Greg is top of his game, the listening figures reflect how well he's still doing. There's nobody more obvious who can bring in those numbers.

Radio 1 will be keen to keep hold of him for stability right now.

I'd agree with that if you had a strong game to offer instead of Greg but right now stability is key - losing him would be incredibly dangerous.

I think that was read as the BBC won't let him stay. What was meant was absolutely they'll be keen to keep hold of him, they've just lost one of their biggest presenters. It's more about if he wants to stay, or if he's thinking it's time. Look at how R1 used to be when he started vs. how it is now

I see that’ and have to sense when time is Jordan leaving was a shock to this group but think Greg is capable of shocking some in this group with a near exit. With some of the features Greg has been doing for six years where unlike Grimmy he had switched things up continually in his tenure. The repetitive features for one could get boring for some may like the familiarity.

"Jordan North will be saying goodbye".  I can't shake the thought that something happened specifically around the time the press release went out.  The language they used implied he would be given the chance to do that.  Well I guess we'll find out when Aled or Jordan or someone involved puts out a memoir someday.

The silver lining to this departure though is that I won't have to hear that heyyyyyyyyyy anymore.  Hopefully it will not continue with Jamie.

@R1Fan1 You're fully correct, I've watched back Sunday brunch. He seemed very flustered when they asked him about it as they referred to it as, "you got Jordan North sacked so you could get his job" then replied with

"I did a stint with Matt Edmondson and they said would you like to do this one. I said that would be amazing and hopefully I do a good job"

He accidentally said Jordan has huge shoes to fill, rather than I have huge shoes to fill. Face palm.

Then got the show time wrong too saying 3-6pm drivetime. So it looks like he's doing half an hour of dean and vickys show and then newsbeat lol

Kinda makes the whole thing a bit of a joke but most importantly seems to suggest it's a "stint"

Unless he hasn’t looked at the contract and know what he signed up for. At least he should be a whole half an hour earlier.

If they're really keen and dead set on having Dean for breakfast that might have been the reason, or one of the reasons. I think he'll thrive at Capital but there's no getting away from the loss for r1 is huge.

You do wonder what went on with Dean covering Breakfast in the first week of the new year now.

When Vick returned from her honeymoon she asked on-air to Jordan "why weren't you doing breakfast?" and he gave some weird reply about Katie being busy but Dean did it alone so easily Jordan could have.  The question was probably staged.

These big moves don't happen overnight so there is one of two things here, either the discussions were already starting and Radio 1 didn't want him on Breakfast or Dean covering Breakfast sent a very negative signal to Jordan and he was more open to an offer to Capital.  Jordan probably didn't want to leave but career wise he has had to make the jump.  (No doubt a bigger salary figured too).

No doubt either Aled or Jordan will spill the beans sometime...but I sniff a story here.

I do hope there is a memoir from either of them. It’s always good to get the inside story of the station.

    • Since Easter at the beginning of April, Vick, Katie and Jamie have been on together just 4 times. Which is crazy for a brand new, high profile Radio 1 show. Imagine Jordan being off that regularly on Capital because of ‘other commitments’ - would never happen.  Jamie has only presented 6 times in the past month. Katie has presented every single show. Given how she got the job at the last minute I think very likely she would have had other commitments, which she will have cancelled/rearranged, cos being Radio 1 drive time host is a massive gig.   Vick, Katie and Jamie - 4 times; Vick and Katie - 10 times; Katie and Jamie - 2 times; Katie and Lauren - 2 times.
    • I see Katie (and Mairead) were out with Jordan tonight.  I don’t listen to the show any longer, I am shocked they are allowed to mention Jordan.
    • At least I do not ask stupid questions…😂
    • I suggest you follow the other DJs too if so, you will learn the hardest working will go further 🤣
    • A simple check on his instagram would answer all your questions , he’s on tour with his wife and the team behind his podcast. I suggest anyone to follow the radio presenters, you will learn a lot about their other jobs and work commitments.
    • Where is Jamie? It felt like he was settling in when Vick wasn’t on but he’s not been on since last Tuesday now. They’ve not even mentioned him, in fact they’ve mentioned Jordan more than they’ve mentioned him in the last two days.
    • Scott's show is on the road next week, live from Malmö in Sweden on Wednesday and Friday, ahead of Eurovision. As he's doing the semi final coverage on the TV on Tuesday and Thursday alongside Rylan, Gary Davies sits in for him on those days.
    • I don't feel there's so much overlap between M&M and Scott's shows. M&M is of a similar calibre to Scott & Chris on R1, with genuine laugh out loud moments and usually a show packed full of real interesting content. Scott's R2 show is IMO a shadow of the stuff he did on R1 (not his fault, he's doing exactly what station management want), with music and content to appeal to a much older audience.
    • To be fair, Scott & Chris would've still been fine on Radio 1. It was mentioned at the time that Scott's move was very much on Radio 2's part rather than Radio 1 wanting to move them on. That's the one problem that Radio 2 has, trying to appeal to such a wide demographic.. it's the perfect listen for many, but equally a turn off for many others. I think they have the balance fairly right.
    • I agree Scott has always been a good standalone presenter, but always better when with someone. When chappers left the radio one show it felt a different show and Chris joining was what it needed and brought new life. for the format of the radio 2 show Scott’s show fits well with the station but again, there’s the huge gap between radio1 and 2 As been said already old radio2 listeners feel it now feels too young with latest changes, yet old radio1 listeners still feel radio 2 feels too old. The inbetween stage demographic of too old for radio 1 but too young for radio 2 is still not catered for radio 2 was left to grow old with its audience for too long and to change things up now feels to try and change a brand image the right thing to do is leave it as it is and cater for that 1.5 demographic which I’m sure the new proposed 00s and 10s station will do if approved. Problem is it’s so overdue that by the time it gets off the ground these listeners are already likely to be lost and the changing image of radio2 likely to lose what it stands for as a brand with the “it’s too young now “  moving to boom and the “ it still sounds old “ crowd not able to move with their favourite presenters like Scott so finding themself on capital a radio 1.5 would have been perfect for Scott and Chris, seems unlikely but this is why I think who branding of bbc radio needs a rethink if these new stations get off ground
    • Bank Holiday Monday Schedule 6am-10am: Arielle Free in for Greg 10am-2pm: Dean & Vicky (No Rickie, Melvin & Charlie) 2pm-6pm: Vick & Jamie (No Katie) 6pm onwards: As normal.
    • Dare I say they've sounded great this past week?  Very much gelling.  Maybe less pressure?  Seem to be having a genuinely good time and not forcing things.
    • I'm in the minority in my workplace, most of them love country music.  Me, the American, does not care for it.  That said, I haven't haaaaaated some of the country adjacent stuff that's been on the R1 playlist.
    • The Eurovision semi finals are on from 8 to 10pm on Tuesday 7th and Thursday 9th May with Richie Anderson. That means Sara Cox in on till 8 on those days.  Saturday 11th May is Eurovision 'Super Saturday... 1-3pm Your Ultimate Abba song with Gary Davies  3-6pm Michelle Visage's Eurovision All Stars 6-8pm Eurovision Request Party with Owain Wynn Evans 8pm Eurovision Grand Final with Scott Mills and Rylan Clark
