I like the look of that schedule. I assume Scott & Dean are live, with the rest pre recorded. Shame breakfast doesn't start till 8, I used to like waking up and tuning straight in. The Greg James rogue promises programme sounds interesting indeed. It's a running thing on his show. No 'filler' playlists either. Double Scott Mills on Christmas day too.

I mean seems like Scott is getting quite a bit of work feel like his Christmas Day evening will be made a playlist highlight on the bbc sounds app. Think it seems like there will be for a while some worthwhile content to seek out and listen to on Christmas Day. If don’t catch live theres going to be some decent stuff to listen back on the iplayer and feel BBC Sounds will make thing to highlight in Christmas programming package. Felt that a breakfast 6 o’clock or 7 o’clock start works better given that some listeners may wake up earlier on Christmas Day and having breakfast then but depends on what shapes peoples Christmas routines

New Years Eve is James Cusack from 6pm to 10pm and then Jordan North from 10pm to 1am.

Good to see Jordan still doing the NYE show. It's become almost a tradition now, like Scott on breakfast. I did wonder whether he would still do it or not now he moved to drivetime. Good to see James Cusack pop up again as well.

Think Jordan will do that forever - same as Scott he's a proper workaholic

It's nice to see them doing those slots, in the days of Moyles Grimmy on breakfast and Greg on drive they hardly used to work over Christmas, I seem to remember Grimmy finishing about the week before and not coming back until about 5th Jan and Greg the same when he was on drive Jordan and Scott seem to want to do more - unless of course it's contractual

I think with Jordan and Scott seen to be people with flexible work schedules and probably there’s contracted agreements to allow for extra work and special programming like Christmas and New Year. Think Nick probably had more weeks allocated of it felt like that anyway. I do feel that the New Years night should’ve always had a dance specialist and some mixes that Radio 1 typically do to soundtrack nightlife and party sounds. With the poppy playlist feel should be left to Radio 2.

I think having some party anthems themed playlists in the day would’ve been good like

Indie Party with Jack Saunders

Pop Party with Mollie King

Soul Party with Victoria Jane

then go to the chart

then have the evening with presenters like Jeremiah Asiamah, Sarah Storey with maybe some mini essential mixes thrown in. I mean if listening to Radio on New Year’s Eve either be 6 Music or Capital Dance

The schedule is now up through until Friday 7 Jan.

New Year's Day is workout anthems 07.00-16.00 including Vicky Hawkesworth 10.00-13.00, other presenters TBC.

Jess Iszatt is in for Adele on Sunday 2nd, with Vicky Hawkesworth in for Dean, although the changeover is at 10.00 rather than the usual 10.30.  Matt is solo that day, as is Katie.

Monday 3rd it's Stuart Sandeman with the decompression session 06.00-10.00, R1 Relax with Jess Iszatt 10.00-14.00, Sian Eleri 14.00-18.00, then Jack 18.00-22.00 including a Sound of 2022 feature for the first hour.

Then for the rest of that week it's Sam & Danni in for Arielle (and on Fri), Matt in for Greg, Sian in for Clara, and Vick & Katie in for Matt & Mollie on Friday 7th.

Hours away from the first shows of this years festive takeover at radio 1 it will be interesting to see which broadcasters will come out as stars and the next generation of presenters at the bbc or national radio from these things. It seems like the previous ones have helped others careers

I agree. Scott was on form as usual, and his and Chris' No. 2 shows was a brilliant listen. Some forgotten tunes that haven't ever been played or not been played on a long time on Radio 1. The Greg & Rosin Rogue promises was a great idea as well. Perfect to round off the day. In previous years I've switched off after breakfast, but Dean was a good listen and he sounded like he was having a great time on air interacting live with listeners.

Only two minor gripes were breakfast starting at 8 as opposed to 7, and an even minor one... Vick & Jordan's show still being referring to as "Going Home" on Christmas Day (although I acknowledge that is the show brand... and it was effectively a Christmas special of that show).

Elliot Darby I think did quite well. Sounded quite natural.

I caught Elliot Darby found quite good I think some of the song selection and mixing is bit of but that’s more production issue found that when flicked over on the last four of Lifehacks but will tune in for the specialist shows on BBC Sounds

@R1Fan1 It’s disappointing that they don’t have presenters giving facts about the years music they are playing conversations around the memories listeners would have round then adding bit of creative responses to said anecdotes and get the presenters to drop one or two interesting, funny relevant anecdotes to music playing. Some sort of text topic. I mean it would’ve been good if this week for different chuck some live longe sessions or Maida Vale sessions to make things interesting or a yesteryear quiz as an alternative yesterday quiz.

Think the presenters should be encouraged to give listeners facts about them or allow listeners to suggest questions to presenters to build a rapour

    • Less so with 5 Live. But with Nihal, Nicky Campbell and Mark Chapman get what you are saying.6 Music does have that with Huw Stephens, Mary Anne Hobbs, Gilles Peterson, Marc Riley and Mark Radcliffe
    • Agreed, Martha seems to quietly taken over as host of the Tuesday Bass and Big Beats show that Annie Nightingale did would be good to have some promotion to be done for her show. Agreed with this on bank holidays on a Radio 1 dance day inpaticular would be quite good to have Sarah Storey, Jaguar, Jeremiah Asiamah, Charlie Tee and Martha presenting. I always felt that in Christmas and New Year previously having Victoria Jane to do a Future Soul take over playlist.
    • To be fair to him, this week and next week he’s on his podcast tour which was arranged well before he started on R1. After that I would guess he’ll start being on everyday?
    • It’s Jamie’s dream of a lifetime to be a full time Radio 1 presenter apparently, but he can only do it 2 or 3 days a week.
    • Radio 1 generation meaning??  Today's 10-30 yr-olds? I doubt it. They'll still know Pete Tong though, because he is rhyming slang!
    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock. 6th May schedule has updated to show that the Radio 1 Big Weekend Shows will now be the following: 6am-10am 10am-2pm 2pm-6pm 6pm-8pm Still no presenters listed.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
