Updated version following the changes to the schedule:

image.png.9fba4a4a0730a60ebefde8f91ed720b6.png

I’d find it quite odd to move Katie Thistleton and Vick Hope to do something that doesn’t incorporate some style and formate of a lifehacks style of show and seem quite good for this assuming you’d scrap the yet to air soul show or forgot about that but I’d move Best New Pop to Sunday afternoons between 16-19 with the update chart kind of dropped through at a shortened length, playing new pop acts and new pop music and chatting to pop stars and interview either Sunday drive or Friday mid morn for that slot

Vick and Katie are mainstream Radio 1 presenters; their future is on a daytime entertainment show, Life Hacks is just a warm up for them, they won’t always host it.

So over the last couple of weeks I've been thinking about what would be my ideal Radio 1 schedule. I used the template that it sometimes used on here when a new schedule is announced to insert my ideas, you can see it below. In this version, new permanent presenters are Jess Iszatt, Robyn Richford, James Cusack, Sarah Story and Fee Mack, with Adele Roberts, Grimmy and Annie Mac all leaving. What do you think? What is your ideal R1 schedule?

How do I get/edit this template?

Agreed they are to talent but I do feel they could bring an element of lifehacks to where they go in the execute snd make it quite flexible forms

Don’t see it; Life Hacks is there as a licence requirement (as was the Surgery before it) and I think it’s much better to keep that show as its own entity, allowing all that content to be in one place.

A liscense requirement but do feel like it could be brought into another slot and reformatted in a better way do feel like informative and conversational public service content for a youth content could be done better than just a short bit on a Sunday afternoon

Yeah Life Hacks will live on (in some form or other) but it won't be Vick & Katie doing it when they move shows. Agree that as a PSB they COULD put Life Hacks type content on other shows in the week, but I'm guessing there's not such a demand for it compared with general entertainment.

The proposed schedule looks good though I'd be surprised to see Scott drop the chart while he's still on afternoons.

this is the post that I found it on - if you make a copy of the spreadsheet then edit it as you please.

on the note of the schedule:

1. the idea of a show like Life Hacks (or the Surgery as it was previously known) has been around for years now - it was there before Katie started it and it will no doubt continue without her.

2. Took Scott from the chart because one of my drafts had him on Friday afternoon during his weekend show. Realised that this maybe wouldn’t be fair on Matt and Mollie as it would be seen as a big demotion to go to two days a week. Maybe in a future version I’ll give Scott that Friday and give M&M the chart.

3. On Thursday 8pm I meant to write The Indie Show, not just a generic Jack Saunders entertainment show.

Some odd choices even since Jess Izsatt doesn’t have her own show

Wouldn’t make sense and would be wasted talent to makes Jack show a generic entertainment that does his role at radio 1 and his career as a music presenter a diservice he’d likely want to leave to work elsewheee then

Get that now do find odd to put Sarah Story and Sian Eleri on cover for daytime or Jack Saunders as cover for Jordan North

Sarah and Sian must hope to move to daytime eventually. Jack covered Grimmy a couple of weeks back so they must be preparing him to become a cover presenter.

I kind of feel like it’s earlier in their careers to see what shows they’d like to end up doing think before thinking daytime they got to kind of get around to doing the shows they doing now and don’t think it will be easy to say they be on daytimes because think about how many DJs the station has and has and how that the transition to daytime doesn’t happen Sarah may do the odd cover for Dance anthems when Charlie’s off and Sian may end up covering bits of Clara. But them on daytime I wouldn’t speculate with. It’s rare these days that the station is that short of staff and would likely would be after calling a few people they would be further down the cover list

Here is a further updated version following on from further changes to the actual schedule during the week.

image.png.a44d4c3197fb1a5296d080d05cca30a0.png

I’ll  stand by and say the weekend 1 Xtra take over should remain and 2 hours of the chillest show from Sunday - Wednesday with 2 editions of the show would be over doing the chillest show. Think moving anthems to a slot that isn’t slotted in to the main bulk of the daytime schedule being since it’s similar and sakes songs often isn’t a bad idea and would to give it to someone like Rekeem. Feel like show like lifehacks would be good to have a co host of a journalist or broadcaster that does a lot on wellness and stuff that Lifehacks addresses. To me the Best New Pop prior to the chart is a good idea would be good for doing some what could chart in next weeks that dropped today and future chart hitting artists I’d have Nels Hylton doing the Rock Show but moving it till the earlies slots

I personally was just a sucker for the old Schedule. I loved the weirdness of that first 30 mins of Greg between 6:30 and 7:00. I always found Roisins "This is Newsbeat; its 6:33" as something that properly started my day, just before the old full Breakfast intro, nowadays it almost seems rushed, 7am hits and instead of the nice calm gentle full 1 minute intro you got to Greg from 2018 - 2020, now you get this short 20-30 seconds theme instead that Greg plays out instead of chatting over the top of the music. I find all the shows ending at Newsbeat breaks just quite robotic, like there is no longer any chat or chemistry between them, before you'd get Scott chatting with Grimmy at 4, but now its just the news and then onto the next thing. I feel like R1 have almost decided to change something that didn't need fixing, the old schedule was great, the jingles and themes were great, what was the need to change them?

I still think that the 1Xtra night is lazy, especially on a Saturday when they really should have dedicated dance music, not a simulcast of their sister station.

the question is, what fits on a Sunday night? The audience probably want something relaxing. In my eyes, ‘Sunday Night Chillout’ would go down the road of light banter, discussions about the week, and music that isn’t too loud.

i do sometimes think that The Rock Show should become one of the specialist shows, but it would no doubt be seen as a demotion.

The Rock Show is all wrong on a Sunday, that's for sure.

I am surprised the Rock Show is surviving the new schedule.  Very little rock music is making the playlist so could be covered on a Future Sounds and Future Artists.

Well it’s a specialist show think it’s worth a demotion compared of how much Radio 1s target demographic listen to Rock music and often is playing some of the similar or same bands that have been producing Rock Music for decades. You may say it’s lazy but it’s cost effective and works out to have the 1 Xtra take over don’t think having a diverse range of specialist shows of genres that Gen Z and Millenials have would be a bad idea to keep. After all feel some of the content that BBC R1 Xtra & BBC Asian Network should be more spread across the other networks give POC and ethnic minorities the representation across R2/R1/R6/5L. Think two nights of dance which would play more of the same tracks for two nights on the row would be pointless when a lot of the songs and shows on radio 1 are dance themed and widely accessible to find on a Saturday night.

Rock show in effect already has been demoted with the axe of Rocktober and the Rock day where housed to play classic rock and more Rock in specialist shows

Yes feel like most bands that top the rock charts or become the biggest songs and albums in their genre have been going for decades and not really with Radio 1s demographic and some rock morphs into Indie and Alternative these days feel like Dan P Carter is surprising didn’t go when Huw Stephens was leaving as of the same era and strongest days at station was when Zane Lowe was there. I’d scrap the rock show realistically but only person that could keep candle going would be Nels Hylton

I think most people beyond this forum agree finding the schedule at usual start end times worked better. Think for BBC Radio unlike commercial has more messy and varying start and end times.

understand the earner start time from specialists but bit messy as am sure when Lauren Laverne started with 07:30-10:30 probably found messy.

I still think there's a place for a Rock Show - just not on Sundays! - Neatest solution would be to give it 7pm-8pm on Saturdays. That would just shave the first hour off the '1Xtra Takeover', and dedicated head-bangers could continue their adventure at 8pm with the R2 Rock Show ...

    • Tara Kumar is in for Alyx on Sunday 13th July.
    • Conor Knight & Lauren Layfield are in for Matt & Mollie on Monday 14th July.  Matt is solo on Tuesday 15th July.  Jerry is in for Mollie between Wednesday 16th & Thursday 24th July.  Maia Beth is covering Future Pop on Wednesday 16th & Wednesday 23rd July. On Sunday 27th July the Chillest Show is reduced to an hour, and 20.00-21.00 is a BBC Proms special with JADE. On Thursday 31st July 18.00-20.00 in place of Jack's show it's the Dance Party Warm-Up with Danny Howard (ahead of the Ibiza weekend).
    • Dean McCullough in for Greg w/c 4th August. James Cusack on EB.
    • Well looks like Mollie is off all month now so presumably a personal matter.
    • Intrigued why Matt & Mollie aren't presenting breakfast on Monday, with James in for them instead (which has happened before).. or even James given a chance to present the breakfast show?
    • Sam & Danni seem to be down for Breakfast on Monday. James Cusack on Going Home. That’s another new name in the list of “people who have hosted Going Home in 2025”.
    • Wednesday, surely? But this is another mess, as this weeks Summer press release said it’ll be Sam & Danni no Jamie from the 28th - so it’s actually a whole week earlier!
    • Jamie Laing’s last show before his summer break will be on Wednesday 16th July.
    • I worked out once Scott spent 3 months of a year off his own slot in the Moyles days and more like 4 in Grimmys days, six weeks of his own holiday and projects, six covering Grimmy plus some ad hoc days
    • Back on topic, I think there's quite a few of the current Radio 1 presenters who would be able to adapt to Radio 2's style in the future. It's more of question of how many of them will actually end up there. With much of R2's line up changed over the past couple of years, it's quite possible we won't see much movement there, and R2 management might even decide to look elsewhere to bring in new presenters in future.
    • With OJ covering on bank holidays. She is the best person for the job however... they're going to end up with a situation like Scott covering R1 breakfast back in the day, where she spends quite a bit of time off her own slot covering Breakfast, plus her own holiday and other commitments. She's been filming for something recently which has meant she's been off several days a week since May. She was off last week, on breakfast this week, OJ is on Mon/Tues next week, then She's off the following two weeks.
    • Looking back at this I would say now that Sara is the main cover - I think she has been reestablished as it now
    • Purley on the R1 Dance station.. Someone on DS said don't expect to see any changes to the schedule on the new stations however if they are taking on Capital Dance with this, which they clearly are, which has live presenters 7am - 10pm except for the 11am mix then they'll surely have to have a proper scheduled set of shows. At the moment Arielle is the only "live" per say show and only "live" a few days a week with earlier shows being repeated Thursday Friday and Saturday. Connor and Charlie are clearly pre records but was this only for the time it was online only and they have already got a schedule ready to go on day 1? also of note is that Charlie is taking over a podcast as well as starting a new project with podcasting which makes me wonder if she is about to step back from Dance Anthems all together to concentrate on those and Connor takes over? So you could have Arielle doing 9-12 weekdays live then someone else 12-3 and Connor live 3-6 on R1D and doing Dance Anthems on a Saturday.
    • As none of the Going Home Team aren't currently on the air, that's a bit if an issue. Considering most of the Dance DJs will be out there, I'm surprised none of them are being utilised to host the 1-4 slot that weekend.
    • Going Home presenters have done the last few years ?
