As mentioned in the chat box there is a cluster amount of changes as we go into August as the schedules from the 2nd-8th August have updated with lots of information as Ibiza weekend means a lot of shuffles

  • 2nd August is slightly different as Dev is solo and interestingly, although Scott is doing the chart, he is not doing Party Anthems and that is coming from Ibiza with Charlie Hedges covering instead
  • From the 3rd-4th August, Mollie King is solo on Weekend Breakfast
  • Dev and Alice are off on the 3rd-4th August so we get some unusual covers instead. On the 3rd, Harpz Kaur from the BBC Asian Network is covering and on the 4th August, Rickie, Melvin and Charlie are doing a show from Ibiza
  • Adele is out of her usual slot from the 4th-8th and with Arliee Free not available and Jordan covering Grimmy it means that Riyadh Khalaf is covering for Adele that week
  • Grimmy is also off from the 4th-8th so Jordan is covering Drive
  • Annie is also off from the 4th-8th so Phil Taggart covers for her instead
  • Rickie, Melvin & Charlie will also be off so Adele Roberts becomes the cover for that week.

So lots of Radio 1 presenters rested from Ibiza then which means cover is being found elsewhere.

What is really bizarre is that Scott is not being used to cover any other slots - him and Clara seem to be the only consistency

Ref Charlie doing Party Anthems makes sense from Ibiza so Scott gets an early day out of it (walk out at 1746) or hes on a flight straight to Ibiza to join the rest of them which is what he did last year

Surprised that RMC isnt the breakfast show, I think Phil would work better in the 10am slot as well. I'll definitely be listening!

It's all added a very interesting dynamic to it - Pete Tong playing A list hits - can you see it ? remember when he covered the Chris Moyles show that time that was a laugh he talked all over the cheesy song

Wonder why this is - I would expect to see at least one of the weekday presenters in slot as normal

And HOW is Grimmy OFF again

If a few of them want it off I guess they might as well write off the whole day and make a thing of it - will be good to hear Jack Saunders in a daytime slot, he's barely mentioned on here I think he has a lot potential to be some of the new 'young talent'

Forget about him. This sounds like a metaphorical arrow pointing towards their specialist shows. This sounds AWFUL.  There’s a reason these shows are on at the time they are. Must have a had a drop on these shows. RMC back on daytime seems a bit odd as well.

He was daytime on Radio X wasn't he?

I can see him on one of the weekday daytime slots before long

Talking of which Toby Tarrant is in for Moyles this week he's got to be the next for a breakfast show

thats Want I was thinking about Toby

Im a Radio X Listner. Sorry Greg:( But X is way funnier in the morning. I cant see Toby doing Radio X Breakfast. When Chris goes the team will go with him im sure. And Toby is a bit average when it is just him. Im sure 1 could pinch some younger djs off global and bauer. DJ'S in their 20s and 30s ill list a few

Lillah Parsons(heart)

Lauren Layfeild(capital)
Issy Panyais(Radio x)

Sarah Jane Crawford(Hits Radio) was at 1xtra.

Vick Hope(capital breakfast)

Will Manning(Big top 40)

Tom and Daisy(kiss)

some of these maybe be older.. but what i think is more important. Is how young and appeling they sound to R1'S tagert audience

Nah, it's just something they do from time to time on bank holidays to do something a bit different. They used to do a whole week of the specialist takeover in the first week of January as well, it's a good way of getting round all of the main presenters being off. Music probably won't all be my cup of tea but it's certainly a way of standing out from their commercial rivals - exactly what they should be doing.

Plus, the novelty of Zane Lowe "bantering with the news" and Pete Tong doing Carpark Catchphrase is pretty funny.

Oh yeah when Pete did breakfast and crashed the cheesy song vocal ?. Classic. But doubt anything like that will happen this bank holiday.

I wonder if Phil will use the Breakfast package Greg uses

I assume there must be three/four versions of this knocking about now

Same jingles and stabs but different names Greg's of course, Scott's (he did have a package done which said Scott & Chris) M&M and a generic one that says "Radio 1 Breakfast"

So assume Phil would use "Radio 1 Breakfast" same as when Mistajam covered for Grimmy in 2017 for a week he used a generic set without his name

Its supposed to be in the style of the specialist show in question though because its a takeover, so I suspect it will be the same imaging as The Chillest Show

So as it's a bank holiday the rules of the percentage of new music or mainstream music that has to be played don't apply so the presenters will probably be playing the same specialist music they normally play on their own shows. They often do random things like this on bank holidays but the thing I'm most looking forward to is hearing Pete Tong introducing the Newsbeat bulletins ?

Enjoyed what I heard of Jack Saunders tonight - his loud and much more fast paced delivery reminded me of Zane, compared to Annie's much more chilled out style.

Just came on here to say the same thing, rarely listen to Jack because indie's not my thing but he sounded really good tonight!

  • 3 weeks later...

Quite a few changes in the next few weeks:

• On Monday, Phil is in for Annie

• Arielle launches her show next Friday!

• From Monday 9th until Thursday 12th, Matt and Mollie are in for Greg!

• Also that week, RMC are in for Scott with 1xtra shows filling their slots.

• From Monday 16th until Thursday 19th, Jordan is in for Grimmy.

• And finally on Friday 20th (and possibly the rest of the weekend) Adele is in for Dev and Alice.!

Jordan seems to just be the main cover for Grimmy going forward then?

Definitely at the moment.  Which is fair enough, it gives him some good exposure, and he’s reached the point he’s a nice safe pair of hands, not the new bloke.  I think most people on here would agree he puts together a great radio show.  But I wouldn’t rule out some people (maybe RMC, D and A, Cel and Katie etc) getting a chance to cover at some point

I’m hoping we get a major schedule change at the beginning of next year. There are too many talented people on slots that aren’t good enough for them, like it’s completely ridiculous that Jordan has still only got 1 show a week and the fact that they used to have 3 main presenters at the weekend and now they’ve got 7 shows the problem they’ve got!!

I’d put money on this.  Not too much money though?.

    • Even for the older Radio 1 listeners (of which there are still quite a few) Scott’s show doesn’t feel quite right.  (That’s nothing on Scott who sounds good but more the station sound and content). Since moving to Capital Breakfast I haven’t been listening to much Radio 1.  I always found the shows outside of Breakfast and Drive more wallpaper due to my working day and the show content of RMC and Dean and Vicky so Capital is just background noise to me after enjoying Breakfast.
    • I love Scott but if you're a 20 or 30 something that enjoyed his last few years of Radio 1 the Radio 2 show just doesn't translate. Stars from Neighbours or 90s singers just aren't my cup of tea and I can't get enthused about some has been at Radio 2 in the Park or some country music countdown.  Until that changes I will probably more likely listen to Matt and Mollie.  The Steve Wright fans think Radio 2 has turned into Radio 1 but it has a long way to go to win over the older R1 audience.
    • Radio 2 brought in Scott to bring the afternoon audience age down, but I feel with Matt and Mollie replacing Dean and Vicky they're going to be competing for a similar audience. Will Scott's show evolve to bring in more listeners or do you think they will be comfortable with the audience they currently have?
    • Yes I'm the same with 6Music. Huw Stephens offers something different.
    • They are an answer. I do listen to 6 Music quite a bit but kind of feel like it isn’t for me unlike the New Music Fix Daily, Huw Stephens who I’d happily listen to. Think it’s a generational thing and music preference. But it’s like how 1 Xtra cut down Snoochie Shy’s nightly show to just Monday and with Wednesday and Thursday with just playlist programme. I just miss the days of having more choice of that time of night.
    • Practically speaking, Riley & Coe on 6Music is the answer to that problem - but I get your overall point.
    • Yes and thats the huge selling point after 6pm as always has been in the evening. As when I started listening to radio 1 about eleven twelve years ago its the station that got me into music new and familiar artists and bands. I think the issue with a lot of the new music shows being crammed in length of the shows and not all is live there’s less chance for a presenter to tell you about the band or artist or have the impression of chatting to the listener by reading out texts and emails or including voice notes. I’m really enjoying Jack Saunders’ new music show as thats how you do a show like that on Radio 1 good mix of genres but from 10pm onwards you don’t have the presenter chatting to the listener or that live feel as sometimes you need at that time.
    • Given one of yesterday’s ‘bangers’ was Noah Kahan’s Stick Season, I doubt it.
    • No chart show on the 24th May because of Big Weekend.
    • How has it been working early mornings as a parent, Chris? Is it harder to juggle than the 1-4 slot?
    • I still think Dua Lipa could make the line-up. She's in the Live Lounge soon. Would be a scoop if they had two of the key Glastonbury performers.
    • Is the three bangers after nine idea meant to compete with Ten Minute Takeover?
    • Connor Coates is in for Charlie Hedges on Saturday 18th May. Kerrie Cosh is in for Jess on Sunday 19th May.
    • But if Radio 1's big selling point is new music it's strange. Clara fell a bit flat in comparison to her predecessors because she wasn't shaped in the same way as Annie or Zane.
    • Yellowcard. Simple Plan. Obie Trice.
