Today marks the 9th anniversary of the tragic events that occurred in America on 11th September 2001. It is certainly this century's 'where were you when...' moment. Everytime I see the footage of them cowards smashing into the twin towers, it still sends a shiver down my spine.

God bless everyone who was affected by that day.

I still can't believe anybody would want to do anything like that, I was only about 7 when it happened but even I knew how sick it was at the time.

I remember being taken out of school on that day to go to the dentist, and it was like a ghost town. I got to know about it before everyone at school though.

I was also at the dentist on 7/7.

My dental appointments are cursed, I tell you...

i was 13 at the time. i remember hearing mark & lard talking about it, i couldn't believe how serious they sounded. i got home from school around 3.15 to see replays of the south tower fall. i saw the north tower fall as i was on the phone to my dad.

what gets me the most is the fact that the extremists feel 'hard done to'! what?! it's the americans who should be seeking revenge! almost 3,000 died because they went to work, they have no control over what these extremists are so pissed about. they tarnished the muslim faith forever, they'll never have a leg to stand on because of what they did.

on the grid.

I was on holiday in Costa Dorada, remember walking into the bar and seeing it on the screens. Stayed in there all day watching the TV in disbelief that day.

Other Muslims should hate them for the permanent damage they have done to that faith.

My thoughts are with the families who lost their loved ones that day & all the heroes that helped.

this century isn't over yet.

i was in work & heard about it on R1.

a family friend was supposed to be in work (doing work experience) very near to the Trade Center, on the day her friends in NYC & her mom (in the UK she was living here & Sarah [her daughter] was living in their apartment in NYC) were trying desperately to contact her after they had heard/seen what had happened, but her mobile was going straight to answerphone every-time, her mom was in a frantic state as you can imagine & at one point she said to her friends that she (Sarah) was dead, in NYC most things were shut down the phones power in lower Manhattan were shut off & mobiles stopped working due to overload, so nobody could contact anyone really & people didn't want to go out into the streets either,

fortunately (i suppose you could say) Sarah had been quite ill during the night & had decided not to go into to work, as she hadn't slept she had turned her mobile off & only woke-up in the afternoon, realizing what had happened & what all these missed calls were about tried to tell her friends/mom she was ok but the phones were still out so it wasn't till the evening that she could tell them she was ok & what had happened to her, also in the 24 to 48 hours after she received the messages her friends & family had left her.

i also don't believe that the terrorists were acting alone, nor do i believe the 9/11 Commission report.

No... this century isn't over yet... (and is some way off it) but this incident will take some beating.

you would be surprised,

I was at school, in Year 1 as well, but the teachers didn't tell us anything. When I got home, my parents were talking about two towers and planes, but I didn't know what was going on at all. I realised it, when I read the papers the day after.

I remember, I was at work when I got a text from a friend just saying 'plane crashed into Twin Towers, something crazy going on over there'. Tried looking on the usual news websites, but all were pretty much crashed by the weight of traffic from other people trying to find out what was happening. My brother-in-law had cause to go there occasionally with his work, so checked to make sure he was ok and he gave loads more detail from colleagues actually at the scene. It was a very memorable event, and I'm sorry to say somehow was even more shocking to me than the London bombings years later. 9/11 is my 'JFK' moment, one I'll never forget.

Can't remember where I was when the Berlin Wall came down though. Probably in the pub.

I was just waiting for someone to reply "I was in nappies so I don't really remember it at all" and make me feel old.

Like DC, I was 13, had just started year 9 at a new school. Heard about it on the radio, could tell something was up because Southern FM doesn't normally devote many minutes to the news but it was constant rolling news. Can't believe it's 9 years ago now.

I was working in a call centre had not long been on duty, we had sky news on all the time with the volume off but volume soon went up. Saw both of them go into the towers, everyone was glued to screens went home after my shift and watched the news for hours. Reading Tom Clancy's book not long after that made me wonder how it was able to happen and if that was where they got the idea from. For those of you who havben't read "Debt of Honor" a Japanese pilot crashes a jumbo Jet into the Capitol building. For 7/7 was doing care work and turned up at clients house and saw it in his newspaper and watched in on the news. Had brother in law and his girlfriend who lived and worked in London.

As bad as it sounds i seem to remember being annoyed as all the kids tv was cancelled, and they kept showing the same video... i was just 7 at the time...

Well, I suppose you didn't really realise what was going on.

i do remember cbbc moving to bbc 2 at the time, the other 4 terrestrial channels were rolling the news. i was a cartoon network viewer back then and they ran as normal when i checked, like nickelodeon did. there had to be some form of escape for children, not knowing how brutal the next act of terror could of been on live tv.

on the grid.

Same... I even went up one of the twin towers the April before, but I was only 7 or 8

My goodness, that's a pretty funky donkey!

    • Tara Kumar is in for Alyx on Sunday 13th July.
    • Conor Knight & Lauren Layfield are in for Matt & Mollie on Monday 14th July.  Matt is solo on Tuesday 15th July.  Jerry is in for Mollie between Wednesday 16th & Thursday 24th July.  Maia Beth is covering Future Pop on Wednesday 16th & Wednesday 23rd July. On Sunday 27th July the Chillest Show is reduced to an hour, and 20.00-21.00 is a BBC Proms special with JADE. On Thursday 31st July 18.00-20.00 in place of Jack's show it's the Dance Party Warm-Up with Danny Howard (ahead of the Ibiza weekend).
    • Dean McCullough in for Greg w/c 4th August. James Cusack on EB.
    • Well looks like Mollie is off all month now so presumably a personal matter.
    • Intrigued why Matt & Mollie aren't presenting breakfast on Monday, with James in for them instead (which has happened before).. or even James given a chance to present the breakfast show?
    • Sam & Danni seem to be down for Breakfast on Monday. James Cusack on Going Home. That’s another new name in the list of “people who have hosted Going Home in 2025”.
    • Wednesday, surely? But this is another mess, as this weeks Summer press release said it’ll be Sam & Danni no Jamie from the 28th - so it’s actually a whole week earlier!
    • Jamie Laing’s last show before his summer break will be on Wednesday 16th July.
    • I worked out once Scott spent 3 months of a year off his own slot in the Moyles days and more like 4 in Grimmys days, six weeks of his own holiday and projects, six covering Grimmy plus some ad hoc days
    • Back on topic, I think there's quite a few of the current Radio 1 presenters who would be able to adapt to Radio 2's style in the future. It's more of question of how many of them will actually end up there. With much of R2's line up changed over the past couple of years, it's quite possible we won't see much movement there, and R2 management might even decide to look elsewhere to bring in new presenters in future.
    • With OJ covering on bank holidays. She is the best person for the job however... they're going to end up with a situation like Scott covering R1 breakfast back in the day, where she spends quite a bit of time off her own slot covering Breakfast, plus her own holiday and other commitments. She's been filming for something recently which has meant she's been off several days a week since May. She was off last week, on breakfast this week, OJ is on Mon/Tues next week, then She's off the following two weeks.
    • Looking back at this I would say now that Sara is the main cover - I think she has been reestablished as it now
    • Purley on the R1 Dance station.. Someone on DS said don't expect to see any changes to the schedule on the new stations however if they are taking on Capital Dance with this, which they clearly are, which has live presenters 7am - 10pm except for the 11am mix then they'll surely have to have a proper scheduled set of shows. At the moment Arielle is the only "live" per say show and only "live" a few days a week with earlier shows being repeated Thursday Friday and Saturday. Connor and Charlie are clearly pre records but was this only for the time it was online only and they have already got a schedule ready to go on day 1? also of note is that Charlie is taking over a podcast as well as starting a new project with podcasting which makes me wonder if she is about to step back from Dance Anthems all together to concentrate on those and Connor takes over? So you could have Arielle doing 9-12 weekdays live then someone else 12-3 and Connor live 3-6 on R1D and doing Dance Anthems on a Saturday.
    • As none of the Going Home Team aren't currently on the air, that's a bit if an issue. Considering most of the Dance DJs will be out there, I'm surprised none of them are being utilised to host the 1-4 slot that weekend.
    • Going Home presenters have done the last few years ?
