Nati is a socialite apparently :D I'm a networker who is a conversationalist and is coherent, popular and inquisitive :)

Haha. Yup I'm a socialite. Right. I'm also likeable, sociable, cautious, chatty and coherent.

Quite happy with that, but I wanted 'Boffin academic' status like Timsk: Boffin, ordinary (hmm, he's too busy being an 'academic Boffin' to tweet), sociable, cautious, taciturn (interesting) and academic.

'To disagree with three-fourths of the British public is one of the first requisites of sanity'.

Noone knows who you are.

Yeah, I gather that, but from the trend of this Forum, and the amount of comments on my blog in 2 weeks, I just added it! I got me a hundred + followers on Twitter. I think it's mainly because I haven't done much posting/blogging on here and am a bit of a newbie.

LURKER

Tips for your tweeting...

* You've not got a user profile! Having one is a major way for like-minded people to find you

* Add a link to your website to your profile to draw more traffic

* Why not tweet a little more often so people can learn about who you are?

* Try sharing some interesting links you've found

* Use hashtags to join in popular discussions or online events

You know, it's actually quite spot on.

A hacker going by the name of Hacker Croll has apparently gained access to an administrator account at the micro-blogging service Twitter.

Posting on a French online discussion forum, Hacker Croll claimed to have hacked into the account of Jason Goldman, one of Twitter’s directors of product management. To back up the claims, he or she posted 13 screenshots of Twitter’s account management interface.

The screenshots suggest that the hacker was able to access the accounts of several celebrity Twitter users, including those of the singer Britney Spears and the actor Ashton Kutcher.

Late on Thursday evening, Twitter made the following statement in its blog.

<!--#include file="m63-article-related-attachements.html"--><!-- BEGIN: Module - M63 - Article Related Attachements --><SCRIPT type=text/javascript><!--function pictureGalleryPopup(pubUrl,articleId) {var newWin = window.open(pubUrl+'template/2.0-0/element/pictureGalleryPopup.jsp?id='+articleId+'&&offset=0&&sectionName=NewsTechWeb','mywindow','menubar=0,resizable=0,width=1000,height=711');}//--></SCRIPT><!-- BEGIN: Comment Teaser Module -->

“This week, unauthorised access to Twitter was gained by an outside party. Our initial security reviews and investigations indicate that no account information was altered or removed in any way. However, we discovered that 10 individual accounts were viewed during this unauthorised access.

“Personal information that may have been viewed on these 10 individual accounts includes email address, mobile phone number (if one was associated with the account), and the list of accounts blocked by that user. We have personally contacted Twitter users whose accounts were compromised via this unauthorised access.â€

The company added that no password information appears to have been changed, and no personal messages viewed.

This is the second time this year that Twitter has been hacked. It seems that Hacker Croll used the same method as the earlier hacker. He or she simply correctly guessed a password based on minimal information about the target.

On March 5 this year, Twitter admitted that 750 Twitter accounts had been broken into and had a link to a webcam site posted on the accounts.

At the time, Twitter issued this advice to its users: “Keep in mind that strong passwords can help prevent hijacked accounts. Twitter offers a password strength indicator to help you choose a strong password when you sign up.†Perhaps now it should issue a memo to the same effect to its own executives

Twitter tests users with changes

Is your Twitter feed looking a little quieter than usual?

If so, that might be because of a change to the service rolled out last night that is causing palpitations among users.

It used to be the case that you could control the types of @replies you saw in your feed. The old guard of Twitter, like me, not only saw replies to their updates from other users, including those they don't follow, but also the replies of their followers to people they don't follow.

More recently, it was changed so that the default setting for new users was that the only replies you saw were from the people you follow to you, or to you and another person you also follow, and not those replies from your followers to people you don't follow yourself.

But you could change this to see all replies, and adopt the system above.

Are you following me?

So what do the changes mean?

Well, if @ruskin147 replied to @billt and I followed the former (tech correspondent Rory Cellan-Jones) but not the latter (tech journalist Bill Thompson) that reply would appear in my Twitter stream.

However, Twitter have now changed the settings so you can no longer see the replies of people you follow to people you don't. According to Twitter:

However, receiving one-sided fragments via replies sent to folks you don't follow in your timeline is undesirable. Today's update removes this undesirable and confusing option.

But it seems many users' don't find this underdesirable or confusing. In fact, it is the method many people employ to discover new people to follow themselves.

And the worse part is, Twitter has taken away any control from the user to change these settings.

It would seem that it has done this to streamline the replies feed in order to become less intimidating to new users, who are suddenly overwhelmed by replies that are mere fragments of conversations they are not party to.

What Twitter has not realised is that it is this very aspect of "overhearing" a conversation between people, some of whom you know and some you don't, that makes the service so appealing.

It is what leads you into new conversations, debates and to meet people you otherwise would not have stumbled upon.

Given the noise on Twitter about this change, I wouldn't be surprised to see Twitter follow the lead of Facebook who have made U-turns on feature changes into an art form

    • The BBC commissioning brief mentions it is a 'mid morning show' for Radio 1 Dance https://www.bbc.co.uk/commissioning/radio/documents/comm_brief_r1_dance_morning_show.pdf
    • Nothing to apologise about, I was just intrigued on how DS and UM react
    • I would be pretty confident that if they keep avoiding using James Cusack on that slot over the next few weeks, then it will probably be him that gets the show permanently!
    • That’s two names who probably won’t be doing that slot permanently then.
    • Moyles spent most of the 52hr sgow calling him that lol
    • I stand guilty as charged as the DS poster.... It was I Okay, so yes Connor has good energy and does the show well, I take it back, however, my last experience of him he spent every other link saying "It's Connor Coates in for the ledge that is Charlie Hedges" and then he started saying "Clem Douglas" - again after critisising that I see she is styled as that sometimes The point I was trying to make was, yes we know it's Charlies show, we know she is a ledge, and we know she is not here today, no need to keep reminding us Regards R1 dance, I suspect Arielle is pointed at the drivetime slot to go against Mistajam unless we know it is breakfast that will be live ? Apologies to Connor and anyone offended by my comments, was just going on my past experience of Mr Coates, who seems to be a very competnt presenter
    • I know we have discussed this before, but can someone shed some light hoping @Lily Georgia can help Since the Wogan House closure, and 1-330 from Manchester, studio 82A (Mills) has been used by Scott's R2 show, in fact i note that him and Grandad Nelson are from there now days The question I have is with 1-330 coming from London again soon, who is getting a new studio? will Scott move to one of the newer ones down the corridor or will he remain in 82A and M&M get a new studio They cannot use 82D as that is used for drive, and currenlty 82A is in use by Scott from 2-4pm In the old days it used to be 82A for Greg, Scott, Annie and 82D Adele, RMC, Drive, Jack I note that Jack is in a brand new studio so maybe M&M will come from that one as well, maybe the same one as Vine uses?
    • Maia Beth is doing Friday Early Breakfast on 7th & 14th June.
    • Joel Mitchell is in for Nat on Sunday 9th June.
    • Ore Olukoga is on 13.00-16.00 on Friday 31st May and Friday 7th June.  Nikita Kanda is doing Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June.
    • Very pleased for producer Amy - it's no coincidence many of the best shows in recent years have had her working on them. You can tell her & Helena are a great production duo and that the whole Matt & Mollie team are a really close-knit unit in general. Some lovely speeches by both Matt & Mollie too to end the show on Sunday.
    • Echo what most have said here. Connor has great energy which is important for that sort of slot and the shame for him is that the dance line-up is so strong that there's no obvious 'in' for him to get a regular slot -Danny, Sarah, Pete Tong, Arielle, Charlie Hedges, Jerry and Charlie Tee are all great in their slots. A live show on Radio 1 Dance really feels the obvious way to get a proper foot in the door at Radio 1. Although to be fair to the DS critic I think it was just the one poster and can very much hear Connor in my head saying 'in for the legend that is Charlie Hedges'.
    • James Cusack is in for Jack on Friday 14th June, doing the chart while Jack is at Download.
    • I remember hearing Amy first on Scotts show and she was great on that, the daft quiz questions always made me smile. It's really nice to see the hard work has paid off for them all.
