To be honest, I have absolutely no idea what to think. I've had a number of different theories but at the moment I'm so confused that I've really run out of ideas.

I reckon they probably know more than they are letting on. As previously stated they were incompetent enough to leave their children unattended in the first place, perhaps if they had been more better parents by not leaving their kids alone in their room whilst they were out getting drunk then Maddie would still be with them today.

I think it's a real shame that the little girl may have been snatched and I think the likelihood of finding her alive is bleak. Like yourself I am getting annoyed by the parents still getting media attention despite there being no fresh news after nearly a year, It's time they put the story to bed until she is either found safe and well or they discover a body.

Personally I've always found the mother a peculiar character. I know she was full of grief and probably guilt too, but as a doctor she should have more to say than just that and it seems bizarre the father is having all the say.

Personally I feel the parents have more to do with her disappearance than just leaving her alone. If it was just that they were left alone and she was snatched then why were none of the other children touched? And also as Jono said the mother doesnt say much about it - perhaps just guilt at leaving Maddie alone but it could also be something else. I also think there is very little chance of Maddie being found and if she is I believe she will be dead. Again this is just my personal feelings and I know there will be people who disagree with me.

I really couldn't care less about the McCanns.

They might still be grieving but keeping up their presence in the media is really annoying. They are lucky they still have their other two kids if social services or whoever had a backbone they'd take the kids, Leaving children alone while you go out for a drink is disgusting.

I watched the programme last night and then they were on This Morning today.

I have a feeling that they have something to do with Maddie going missing, why were the other 2 children not taken ?

They were asked, had they gone out and left the children before on that holiday, the mother had no intention of answering and as always, the dad answered, but gave nothing away because of the Portugal law !!

The reason why they will not go back to Portugal is that they will be arrested for neglect of their children. Why can the British police not do this. I'm sure they done it to Shannon's mum and that was with 1 child, not 3.

I am disgusted that they could leave 3 children alone in their room and saying it was like' leaving them when being in your garden at home ' I don't think so.

My sympathy go's to Maddie only.

It is so good to see that there are some that agree with my thoughts. This is a subject I can't talk to anyone else about because I am apparently a cold-hearted bitch.

I think the parents (mother) killed her -accidentally- and have covered it up. That is why the dad does all the talking. He is the strong one who made up their cover story but now a year later the mother does actually believe she didn't do it.

I think they got home drunk and Maddy was crying and the mother did something and before she knew what she was doing the poor girl was dead.

I also agree what others have said about the fact that lots of children go missing everyday and their parents don't get the media interest or help that these leaches have got.

There is a short interview of the McCanns on sky today and Mr McCann admitted that they left their children every night on their own. I do not think he realised what he had said !!

What lovely parents ??

Meh - she's still missing...I didn't take her, don't know who did. Beyond that, don't care.

same here. When I were a nipper it was nothing unusual for parents to leave us sproggs at home when they went out. Or left in the car while they did shopping, or left in the car if they went out for a quiet pint. Yoof today eh? Armed to the teeth with guns and knives yet not an ounce of common sense.

Of course I don't mean that to be a sweeping generalisation of all da yoofs, just quite a few. I still blame the parents mind;):D

After her sucess in the junior UK hide and seek championships, Shannon Matthews will now try her luck abroad by taking on current European champion Madeline McCann.

Or... Just when you thought Madeline McCann was winning the International Hide and Seek championship a bloody Austrian pipes up with 24 years in a cellar.

    • Tara Kumar is in for Sian on Tuesday 4th June.
    • I think at least part of the problem is that a lot of Danny's act is based around Drag humour which (a) isn't for everybody (b) has to be so tamed down for daytime radio, it just becomes silly and (c) it is humour generally consumed on a night out with lots of alcohol taken!
    • Oh boy, if that's the case above then what are they trying to do at r1? If Danny was put into weekend afternoons that's one hell of a faux par and a big nail in the coffin. While ok, Nat and Vicky aren't about to blow the doors off and are only there as the fallout of d&v, but to then follow that up with Danny for 3 days a week. Come on. To go from a place where we had Katie followed by M&M to that. What happened to the prestigiousness of r1? Do they need reminding they've just lost Jordan? It's getting embarrassing. Like I said before, when I had people with 0 interest in radio whatsoever and it was in the background telling me to turn it off, you know it's bad. I saw a random friend from years ago even posting on fb with how has someone like Danny ended up on r1. Everywhere you turn its negative. Doesn't that multiply across the uk in what the r1 audience actually think of this presenter? I'm in the LGBTQ+ community and also r1 target audience but I don't feel I want to listen to this presenter because of that fact. Has some policy actually overtaken the true risk of driving audiences away? The fact is just how @coffeeandgin said, Danny has had chance since March with 2 shows a week and is still not up to the job. The odd podcast yes but certainly not to replace m&m! I've skipped through 10 minutes of this week to make sure I wasn't basing opinions on how it was before and yes it is the same level. When you had presenters like Scott who could keep it fresh despite how many years it had been, but then Danny sounds so out of date already, saying you could tune over to Rylan on r2... but then with a topic of "I want to know what have you missed out on?" I'm sorry?! What kind of local radio is that... it's meant to be radio 1 ffs. Terrible talking points, cringe, unfunny, and so bad on the radio it actually makes it jarring and makes people switch over.
    • I don’t think it will be September it will be a very messy schedule if that’s the case
    • As a member of the LGBTQ+ community my position is exactly yours on female representation.  Yes I want representation but only on merit.   Even if Radio 1 would like more representation from this sector, there are stacks of better options than Danny Beard.
    • I hope you're right! I remember some years ago hearing that the biggest show at a weekend was mid-mornings, but not sure if that's changed with the changing pattern of radio listening in general. Given the best show at the weekend (by a distance) is M&M, would make sense that's now the biggest slot.
    • Someone on here said recently weekend afternoons have a big audience. I think you'd want some of your biggest talent here. Which is why there was talk of a reshuffle. I couldn't personally see Danny in this slot if they decided to keep him.
    • I understand that representation is important. And I can't speak for the LGBTQ+ community. But, as a woman in my mid 30s, I have seen a massive shift towards 'having more women' in every industry/organisation in my lifetime. I have always felt that it should be on merit and capability to carry out a role effectively, rather than just filling a role as a specific gender. Women can be fantastic at everything, but on a personal level I would not want to be hired, for example, as a firefighter  just because I was the only female candidate. I am 5 foot nothing and could not carry you out of a burning building.
    • If they were going to do this, wouldn’t it make more sense to keep Danny at 10.30am and move Nat and Vicky to 1pm? I feel the idea of giving someone a job largely because of their sexuality isn’t particularly good either…
    • Right so prediction time. I think “Summer on Radio 1” which is on the schedule for Friday to Sunday 1-4 from June sticks around longer than the other changes in July. I think that lasts until September which is when we get the new weekend afternoon show. I think they’ll want to give Danny longer on air to see if they improve. I can’t see that happening, so my guess is in September they move Sam & Danni to weekend afternoons (at that point they’ll have been on weekend breakfast for a full year), and they bring James Cusack in to do weekend breakfast.
    • If Aled decides to give Danny a full time role, even as part of a duo / trio, it'll be the most disappointing decision of his tenure. The fact Danny is still on air and hasn't been quietly moved on 'due to a change in plan' is bad enough!
    • I'd say Danny has been given a fair hearing - and hasn't been up to par. You don't want Radio 1 to be a closed shop - but not being able to usually get the Whatsapp number right should be a dealbreaker. Errors happen even to the best DJs at times but if you can't get the Whatsapp number right you really shouldn't have a regular role on the station. But if they really are that desperate to have Danny on the schedule full-time then pair him up with somebody who can actually handle the technical side. You think of all the capable DJs who are in duos and trios and then you have just have a rookie like Danny left solo.  The LGBTQ+ point too I have to say if true as a gay man feels a case of proper discrimination. It's good to have LGBTQ+ representation for sure but the key thing is that the DJ is good at the end of the day and say in 2021 there was loads of LGBTQ+ talent on Radio 1 in Scott, Grimmy and Adele Roberts among others but at the end of the day they were strong DJs entirely there on merit. And even now there's still LGBTQ+ talent on Radio 1 who are there primarily because they're bloody good broadcasters. Danny is not one of them.
    • There is a reason you don't know who is doing weekend afternoons yet. The plan is still to see how Danny Beard's trial goes on weekend mornings. Newspaper clippings have demonstrated Aled has been keen to push Danny Beard at the weekend and to give him a fair hearing. The plan looks to be to wait and see whether he improves in the next few weeks. The bosses still want more LBGTQ+ representation on the station.
    • I think they should just bring that back as was. It's been nearly 20 years, so do it with a whole bunch of new DJ's.
    • I think this year has taught us we know nothing 🙂 Nobody would ever have credibly predicted Jordan leaving and all the changes that followed.   I have another interest outside radio and it is exactly the same - the stuff you never expect to happen is exactly what does.
