thats got the potential to turn the schedule upside down with mollie also off soon,  but isn't the sun known for bs

They're often spot on with stuff like Strictly and I'm A Celeb. It would be a good profile boost for him, like it was for Jordan North. A few weeks of cover on early breakfast shouldn't cause much disruption to the schedule

I can definitely see him on heart breakfast. Can't see how they can put him back onto a daytime weekday show.

Heart will want someone for breakfast who kinda remembers them in their childhood or are on a mainstream programme ala Jamie and Emma/Amanda. That won’t be Dean. Replacing Pandora or Matt Wilkinson I can see though

I'm dubious as to whether the I'm A Celebrity stint actually helped Jordan's career within Radio 1, because he'd already been upgraded to all 3 weekend days a few months beforehand. Plus I'm pretty sure he was next in line for daytimes and that still didn't happen for 9 months after he did the show.

But I think it did help his overall 'celebrity' status and got him onto Saturday Night Takeaway & probably within the eyes of Global when they knew Roman Kemp wanted to leave.

I cannot see any obvious place for Dean to go, as above Heart is not the right fit because they want someone who is nostalgic for their core audience. Capital are sorted with Jordan... maybe Hits Radio? But they seem set with Fleur East even if she seems like a strange booking to me...(and again, her star rose after being on I'm A Celeb!)

Snoochie Shy did I'm a Celeb and she came across well, but it didn't really do anything for her career save a few appearances on things, it's not a guarantee unless you really make it to the end. It's a bit of profile raising though and even if it doesn't get Dean a new 'job' he's probably got more of a chance to be a talking head, or get other bits and peices on the side. And easy money if you don't mind doing that sort of thing!!

I think I'm a Celeb benefits two sorts of person (a) those that have been forgotten about a little and need their career revived (The Vernon), (b) those that are very talented and just need a little more exposure to take their career to the next level (The Jordan).

Unless somebody acts like an idiot, it can generally only be a good thing.

For Dean - as others have said, I am sure it can boost his "talking head" / "panellist" profile.  Radio wise who knows, I can't really see him ever getting much promotion at Radio 1 again.  That's not to say he might not get another 5 years at the station in his current slot or weekend slots.  But it'd be pretty rare for anybody to get a big daytime slot, get demoted out of it and come back.

    • I think Ellie has definitely proven to be been a great fit.  The story of her finding a flat and Roger the cat was a real ice breaker for the feel of the show as a whole I think.  Add to that Scott giving Ellie his ticket to the Brits and the stories that came from it, I really think she adds value. Not only is the rapport between her and Scott already brilliant, but she also comes across as a funny, down to earth presenter in her own right.  I think she's fab and will only continue to get better as the show progresses. I would initially have agreed with the thought that she could be a co-presenter, and I suppose her prominence in the show is such that she could be seen as that, seemlessly.  However, for me the show is a bit too guest-heavy for a co-presenter.  That's probably just the nature of having such a high-profile show, I think it might feel like too many voices to try to get a fairly short (and sincere) interview in with a huge star. Back in the days of R1 when they could play fun games with the guests then yes, but I get the impression that Scott needs to go for serious and genuine with most of the ones he has had so far. I mostly prefer the bits of radio without guests - that goes for all radio shows, not just Scott's.  The 6.30-8am where it's just Scott, Ellie, and Tina, are my favourite bits of the show for sure.  Which is a long winded way of me saying that Ellie was a great choice 😄
    • @Opalmoon I couldn't agree with you more. Scott and Chris made genuine magic happen on the radio and I'm starting to think that nothing will ever equal that era.  I often listen back to the old podcasts, and I think you've hit the nail on the head when you say they were effortlessly funny together.  They could make the most simple of things laugh-out-loud funny, and it must have been because they were real friends who just used to make each other laugh, which in turn made brilliant radio.   They have both gone on to do such big things apart, probably more than if they had carried on together at Radio 1, and I'm really pleased for them both.  I don't think you're stuck in the mud (if you are then I am too) - a Scott and Chris podcast would be a dream come true. I'm not sure it could even be a thing while they are both working at different stations, but I hope they can make it work one day.  With Beccy producing, that would be the icing on the cake!   I would love for Scott to be a guest on Chris & Tom Kerridge's podcast, if nothing else.   Who knows, maybe one day Chris will find himself back at the BBC on 5Live and we'd have more chance of having them back working together then.
    • Lauren in for Danni on 28th and 29th March.
