will it be on proper radio or app only like the dance is. does it say anywhere

Think it's just Sounds but both are intended for DAB, I believe.

Looking at the press release for Radio 1 Anthems, it seems they are going to be doing something similar to their previous Christmas efforts by putting in new names to present some shows.

Suspect they will simulcast. Personally am completely fed-up with the lazy anthems programming through the Christmas period but no signs that that will change! I know they do it to go light on production needs, but surely with some good prework we could have a bit of something else!

It seems Global are launching Capital Anthems this week. It's a bit exhausting how everyone's chasing the same audiences.

I find it amazing how they just whack out these national DAB slots left right and center for these spin off stations that seem to have a short shelf life.

on the grid.

Capital Anthems is going on DAB. So it will presumably have the upper hand for getting audience until Radio 1 know what's happening with its Anthems stream.

Honestly same, its strange how many of these spinoff stations both Bauer and global just start every so often while keeping the vast majority of the existing ones going. Partially it's a thing where they own the multiplexes so they do what the hell they like with them. And what they seem to do is just downgrade the Bitrate so more space on the multiplexes and they audience probably doesn't notice or care the drop in sound quality

Plus the fact I think they're at three national commercial multiplezes (D1, D2, Sound Digital) plus all the regional and local commercial owned ones so it's probably a situation of just filling the space because they can.

The multiplex Capital Anthems is on sounds so terribly and tinny in my car, I can barely listen. Suspect it's my radio being quite old and not very DAB+ friendly, but the sooner the BBC launch this station there the better.

That will be because of the bitrate that they’ve launched these stations at… they try and squeeze too many stations on one multiplex.

I think Capital Anthems is as low as 32 kbit/s, whereas Radio 1 is broadcast at 128 kbit/s.

is the r1 anthems station going to be on dab? someone said on here it was sounds only

It’ll launch as Sounds only, but the BBC wants to place this, R1 Dance, R2 spin off & R3 Relax onto DAB - but they need to get additional approval for that to happen

I hope eventually we'll see some proper shows for Radio 1 Anthems with some actual new presenters, instead of having random prerecorded anthems programming. It seems like a really great opportunity for some new presenters to have proper shows on a slightly smaller scale Radio 1 station with older, but still modern and relevent music. Almost like a Radio 1 mini, however the budget may not allow for so much.

    • Wednesday, surely? But this is another mess, as this weeks Summer press release said it’ll be Sam & Danni no Jamie from the 28th - so it’s actually a whole week earlier!
    • Jamie Laing’s last show before his summer break will be on Wednesday 16th July.
    • I worked out once Scott spent 3 months of a year off his own slot in the Moyles days and more like 4 in Grimmys days, six weeks of his own holiday and projects, six covering Grimmy plus some ad hoc days
    • Back on topic, I think there's quite a few of the current Radio 1 presenters who would be able to adapt to Radio 2's style in the future. It's more of question of how many of them will actually end up there. With much of R2's line up changed over the past couple of years, it's quite possible we won't see much movement there, and R2 management might even decide to look elsewhere to bring in new presenters in future.
    • With OJ covering on bank holidays. She is the best person for the job however... they're going to end up with a situation like Scott covering R1 breakfast back in the day, where she spends quite a bit of time off her own slot covering Breakfast, plus her own holiday and other commitments. She's been filming for something recently which has meant she's been off several days a week since May. She was off last week, on breakfast this week, OJ is on Mon/Tues next week, then She's off the following two weeks.
    • Looking back at this I would say now that Sara is the main cover - I think she has been reestablished as it now
    • Purley on the R1 Dance station.. Someone on DS said don't expect to see any changes to the schedule on the new stations however if they are taking on Capital Dance with this, which they clearly are, which has live presenters 7am - 10pm except for the 11am mix then they'll surely have to have a proper scheduled set of shows. At the moment Arielle is the only "live" per say show and only "live" a few days a week with earlier shows being repeated Thursday Friday and Saturday. Connor and Charlie are clearly pre records but was this only for the time it was online only and they have already got a schedule ready to go on day 1? also of note is that Charlie is taking over a podcast as well as starting a new project with podcasting which makes me wonder if she is about to step back from Dance Anthems all together to concentrate on those and Connor takes over? So you could have Arielle doing 9-12 weekdays live then someone else 12-3 and Connor live 3-6 on R1D and doing Dance Anthems on a Saturday.
    • As none of the Going Home Team aren't currently on the air, that's a bit if an issue. Considering most of the Dance DJs will be out there, I'm surprised none of them are being utilised to host the 1-4 slot that weekend.
    • Going Home presenters have done the last few years ?
    • Nat and Vicky are being sent to Ibiza this year. They’ll be live on Friday 1st August from 1-4pm.
    • Since Radio 1 Dance and Anthems have been allowed to broadcast on DAB, do we think they’ll be a proper schedule of shows like on Radio 1 Dance with the morning show and Dance Anthems at drive time. Maybe Lauren Redfern, Tyler Selby, Chrissy Cameron or Matt Hallsworth will be scheduled on named shows like Hits Radio 00s or Capital Anthems rather than the generic ‘Radio 1 Anthems’ show. Obviously it would probably cost more to produce actual shows on the station however.
    • There's been a lot of positive reaction to the Mylo and Rosie news so am interested now to hear what their shows are like. And yep wouldn't be surprised if they stay on beyond July as cover ever so often. And that Friday-Sunday news was hidden in the small print a little. It presumably means we lose Party Anthems all that month as that is what has happened this year with Big Weekend, Glasto for example. I certainly I hope it isn't Party Anthems being quietly axed full stop - it and Future Pop are 2 real hidden gems on Radio 1.
    • I’m pleased for Mylo and Rosie, they were highly thought of in our local area and definitely worthy of that slot
    • I’m thinking the same redding and Leeds etc
    • -Considering how little Jamie has appeared since Vick went off on maternity, it probably would've been more sensible to have Sam & Danni taking over from that point and have him return with Katie. - Mylo and Rosie are apparently very good and one of the more popular local presenters who lost their slot when Hits went fully national. I gather they are very popular in Yorkshire. I can see them definitely see them popping up again beyond this stint. -Life Hacks cover is yet another good opportunity for some new voices (I know Yinka has popped up in the past). I have enjoyed Pete Allison covering though. I'm assuming most of August's Friday to Sunday 1-4pm will be made up of festival coverage.
