I do Geography.

Oh wow bloody hell! That's the one course I'd never be able to do. I think I'd rather do Quantum Physics than Geography :P Uh well if I get my A's I'll probably see you around (ahhh pressure again).

Does anyone else get really confused with vector terminology? Questions on vectors are never very clear.

What's wrong with Geography? It's really interesting and very relevant. You can study the geography of anything! (So essentially, it's on the edge of every other subject, so we have people who should have done other things but have ended up in geography, like medical geographers, fashion geographers, music geographers etc.)

Leave off of us Geographers!;) I did it for A level. Mind you, that was because it was the easiest subject IMO. It is, I'm sure far more difficult to study at degree level though. Geography is an increasingly more important course in this day and age, with regards to global warming, recycling etc.

I did it at AS, only because I think Geography is incredibly important and because it's fairly easy to learn - but I still don't understand any of it and it's really boring :D It's just not my subject ;) I'm better at Maths and languages. Or History - where it's all about expressing your own opinion as opposed to learning facts even though at A2 you're limited to historical interpretations. The best thing about History is that it can be interpreted in any way you like. My boyfriend said in his exam that Gestapo were in fact really nice and helped old ladies across the street and he argued it so well that he got 100%. Ridiculous. I still think he should stop experimenting. So yeah Geography is just facts, like Biology or Chemistry, and I don't like things like that...

I agree Paula. You can't really debate facts, which can make a subject like Geography a tad dull on occasion. However it is an integral part of our lives, and new discoveries are being made by Geographers every day. Some of which will hopefully benefit the environment in which we live. Luckily for us there are people who are passionate about this.

Personally I'm an arty farty type. I went to Uni and got an MA in English, mainly because I absolutely adore interpretting text. I am passionate about getting a new cutting edge angle on Chaucer or Shakespeare, as opposed to doing something that is actually physically useful to mankind - Geography/Sciences/''ology's. I still haven't worked out if this is a good or a bad thing?

My English classes are great though.:) I also love the fact that I have learnt to speak decent Spanish without classes. It's so interesting to compare the languages.

It's neither good nor bad, it's creative ;)

There are aspects of Geography which are really interesting but learning the structure of a river bank or a cliff is really not my thing :P I'm not a big fan of field trips either, especially when they are just across the road. I wouldn't mind going abroad though, which is apparently what Geography students do at uni. I agree that it's always important to be aware of the environment around us, I just didn't like the course I was doing as I didn't find it particularly productive or useful.

Spanish without classes? That's really impressive. I tried to do that with French and Italian, but I'm not consistent enough. I always learn everything I'm told to learn, never less than that, but rarely more. I find languages fairly easy to learn (I have never opened a German book in my life and I still won the Provincial Olympiad despite being a year younger than everybody else) so I think I should really invest in some other language lessons, or just go abroad for a year.

Thank you. It is, however really 'cos I lived in Spain for over 10 years and if you want to make new friends, you have to learn the language. I'm fortunate enough to have some very patient Spanish mates.

I got an email this morning about becoming a Geography teacher from the department - arghh!!

Everyone I know is frequently asked "so are you going to be a geography teacher then?" I don't know what it is about this degree that makes people ask that.

I don't do much physical geography these days. I'd like to point out that GCSEs and A levels are extremely restrictive and offer little or no opportunity to input your own opinion. University is not like that. There are many different opinions and arguments, even about how things happen in physical geography. Admittedly, rivers and things don't exactly excite me, but they do excite some of my friends.

I'm interested in the environment and how people interact with it and affect it, which is very much geography's realm. Development is interesting as well. To tell the truth I did geography at school because I was good at it and found it easy, here it is more interesting and varied and often harder.

There's a surprising amount of maths and computer science involved. My next 2 exams are about computer applications of geography.

That sounds much better, much like History, Geography has gotten very linear and boring, so University sounds more fun. Apparently Cardiff does not do a full Geography course though, which is slightly annoying.

Had my English exam today, 3 bley hours of that crappy subject. From the exam, I think I have a chance at passing with a C but it's quite a hopeful estimation. It's finished now anyway, I don't plan on taking it next year and will certainly not be resitting the exam if I fail.

Argh Just had a 3 hour German exam. Just before the end of my listening to tape just died, the talking went quiet and then it just slowed down and stopped! D:

Hopefully, my exam has gone okay though :)

I managed to finish everything on time, my timing is exams is usually awful.

Only got 2 left now but they're the ones I have to revise the most for, am now starting to worry that I haven't revised enough for my last exam and the stuff I have revised is a load of crap. Aaaaargh. Really just want this to be over now... roll on next Wednesday.

So save the last dance

For me my love 'cause I

    • Right so prediction time. I think “Summer on Radio 1” which is on the schedule for Friday to Sunday 1-4 from June sticks around longer than the other changes in July. I think that lasts until September which is when we get the new weekend afternoon show. I think they’ll want to give Danny longer on air to see if they improve. I can’t see that happening, so my guess is in September they move Sam & Danni to weekend afternoons (at that point they’ll have been on weekend breakfast for a full year), and they bring James Cusack in to do weekend breakfast.
    • If Aled decides to give Danny a full time role, even as part of a duo / trio, it'll be the most disappointing decision of his tenure. The fact Danny is still on air and hasn't been quietly moved on 'due to a change in plan' is bad enough!
    • I'd say Danny has been given a fair hearing - and hasn't been up to par. You don't want Radio 1 to be a closed shop - but not being able to usually get the Whatsapp number right should be a dealbreaker. Errors happen even to the best DJs at times but if you can't get the Whatsapp number right you really shouldn't have a regular role on the station. But if they really are that desperate to have Danny on the schedule full-time then pair him up with somebody who can actually handle the technical side. You think of all the capable DJs who are in duos and trios and then you have just have a rookie like Danny left solo.  The LGBTQ+ point too I have to say if true as a gay man feels a case of proper discrimination. It's good to have LGBTQ+ representation for sure but the key thing is that the DJ is good at the end of the day and say in 2021 there was loads of LGBTQ+ talent on Radio 1 in Scott, Grimmy and Adele Roberts among others but at the end of the day they were strong DJs entirely there on merit. And even now there's still LGBTQ+ talent on Radio 1 who are there primarily because they're bloody good broadcasters. Danny is not one of them.
    • There is a reason you don't know who is doing weekend afternoons yet. The plan is still to see how Danny Beard's trial goes on weekend mornings. Newspaper clippings have demonstrated Aled has been keen to push Danny Beard at the weekend and to give him a fair hearing. The plan looks to be to wait and see whether he improves in the next few weeks. The bosses still want more LBGTQ+ representation on the station.
    • I think they should just bring that back as was. It's been nearly 20 years, so do it with a whole bunch of new DJ's.
    • I think this year has taught us we know nothing 🙂 Nobody would ever have credibly predicted Jordan leaving and all the changes that followed.   I have another interest outside radio and it is exactly the same - the stuff you never expect to happen is exactly what does.
    • Yeah they make the weekend shifts go so much quicker. Like today, the piece about Matt falling asleep in the cafe was funny, it's clear to see why they're going to weekdays. It could well be they were thinking of Danny for it and like you say have decided against that, or like I said at the start it's James Cusack and the slow down on the announcement is him getting out of his contract. Remember he works for radio 1's main rivals. I think it's quite telling that he's doing more r1 cover than usual, tomorrow and then a further 3 weekend shows in a row
    • Nat in for Dean with Vicky between the 28th-30th May.
    • I suspect they’re gonna tie the announcement into something, or they’ve changed plans. I know we’ve said it as a joke but I wonder if Aled was planning on giving it to someone like Danny Beard, but he’s decided against that after the last few weeks. Seems clear to me, though, that if Jordan hadn’t left, then Katie would’ve taken Dean and Vicky’s slot and Matt and Mollie would’ve stayed on weekends, which probably explains why they haven’t picked a replacement yet. If it was going to be the obvious choice, I.e. James Cusack, surely they would’ve announced it by now..?
    • Yep think they mentioned that this is their penultimate weekend of shows but then they will also be on air during Big Weekend and they mentioned they'll be doing 'Party Anthems' on stage during Big Weekend which sounds intriguing. Will miss Matt & Mollie on weekends - they in particular have made that Friday afternoon slot their own - but they'll be great on weekdays. Do wonder if 'Summer on Radio 1' is just a placeholder name until they decide on who will cover the interim. While it's obviously not the case it does feel like they've forgotten there's that weekend afternoon slot to fill given no permenant presenter has been announced for it yet.
    • Zoe Ball is back on the breakfast show on Monday.
    • Just listening to matt and mollie at work and heard them say it's their second to last show on weekends
    • And Arielle mentioned in her Instagram post that her final early breakfast show is the 27th of June - the Thursday before Glastonbury
    • When Matt covered breakfast on 22nd April, he said their new show was starting in 10 weeks, so that’d be the 1st July.
    • Would love for it to be like the Summer Friday Thing that me and @DC were remisincing about recently. Lots of events going on that could easily form part of it.  https://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/summer/cardiff/thursday/1.shtml
