Arielle Free to present new dance show

I think Arielle will be on Fridays in a couple of years, natural replacement for Danny Howard, just needs a few dance shows under her belt which she will get with this move. Could also see her stepping in for Jack and Sian when they’re off, she definitely has the talent for evenings and did a stint last summer (albeit it was cut short after that Ibiza incident). I don’t think there was much more for her to gain from doing early mornings and it will her to grow elsewhere. Hope we still get to hear her on the station, she’s one of my favourites.

I hope they do keep Future Pop on the station and it isn’t completely axed.

Yes it’s staying but moving to Wednesdays 8-10. I’m surprised Mollie is still presenting it, because it’s very rare that Radio 1 do double-shifting, let alone permanently. I’d have thought it would be the perfect time to give it to Maia Beth

Mollie seems to be loving presenting Future Pop though. I hope it won't be prerecorded as it was on Friday mornings.

Arielle sounds like it's with her blessing.

I think after a while of the 3am alarms and early nights having the ability to have a normal week day life back probably is something that would be something for er to count as a positive. As it is said she has specialist music interest and probably enjoy exploring more new exciting projects along with the new show and can imagine that in the next stages of Radio 1 Dance when it moves to be a DAB+ station could imagine that she will be heavily involved in.

People have commented on the shakeup being very London-centric, and this is doing nothing to quell those fears 🤣

It's pretty common for London office workers to go out on Thursday night, work from home on the Friday so they can recover in time to not ruin their weekend with a hangover. A Thursday night dance show sounds heavily aimed at that demographic.

With Arielle's DJ career going from strength to strength it isn't a huge shock she doesn't want to keep getting up for earlies.

That Thursday night slot will suit her perfectly - still allows her to do her various DJ gigs over the weekend plus if she wanted one of the Friday night slots or Dance Anthems the next time one of those slots becomes free it gets her foot in the door there. And it's good we still get to hear her on Radio 1 in some form.

Pleased too that Arielle's new show hasn't come at the expense of Future Pop and that Future Pop has just moved days instead.

I did think Arielle would move away from early breakfast before long. Her future is clearly part of the Radio 1 Dance family (plus her DJ career), plus it was unlikely she was going to progress to a more prime daytime slot at this point. If this enhanced Radio 1 Dance Station takes off, she likely be a big part of that. I can definitely see her on Friday nights eventually as well.

I'm interested to see what form her new Thursday night show takes, and if it offers anything different to the existing dance shows on R1.

Since they could do some live non-simulcasted content it would be good to have Arielle Free maybe doing Tuesday and Wednesday editions of her new dance show on Radio 1 Dance or have an exclusive content role on it.

Thursdays has been the new Fridays for nearly a decade. I don’t think it’s synonymous with London only.

    • I agree Scott has always been a good standalone presenter, but always better when with someone. When chappers left the radio one show it felt a different show and Chris joining was what it needed and brought new life. for the format of the radio 2 show Scott’s show fits well with the station but again, there’s the huge gap between radio1 and 2 As been said already old radio2 listeners feel it now feels too young with latest changes, yet old radio1 listeners still feel radio 2 feels too old. The inbetween stage demographic of too old for radio 1 but too young for radio 2 is still not catered for radio 2 was left to grow old with its audience for too long and to change things up now feels to try and change a brand image the right thing to do is leave it as it is and cater for that 1.5 demographic which I’m sure the new proposed 00s and 10s station will do if approved. Problem is it’s so overdue that by the time it gets off the ground these listeners are already likely to be lost and the changing image of radio2 likely to lose what it stands for as a brand with the “it’s too young now “  moving to boom and the “ it still sounds old “ crowd not able to move with their favourite presenters like Scott so finding themself on capital a radio 1.5 would have been perfect for Scott and Chris, seems unlikely but this is why I think who branding of bbc radio needs a rethink if these new stations get off ground
    • Bank Holiday Monday Schedule 6am-10am: Arielle Free in for Greg 10am-2pm: Dean & Vicky (No Rickie, Melvin & Charlie) 2pm-6pm: Vick & Jamie (No Katie) 6pm onwards: As normal.
    • Dare I say they've sounded great this past week?  Very much gelling.  Maybe less pressure?  Seem to be having a genuinely good time and not forcing things.
    • I'm in the minority in my workplace, most of them love country music.  Me, the American, does not care for it.  That said, I haven't haaaaaated some of the country adjacent stuff that's been on the R1 playlist.
    • The Eurovision semi finals are on from 8 to 10pm on Tuesday 7th and Thursday 9th May with Richie Anderson. That means Sara Cox in on till 8 on those days.  Saturday 11th May is Eurovision 'Super Saturday... 1-3pm Your Ultimate Abba song with Gary Davies  3-6pm Michelle Visage's Eurovision All Stars 6-8pm Eurovision Request Party with Owain Wynn Evans 8pm Eurovision Grand Final with Scott Mills and Rylan Clark
    • It is funny because everyone thought Matt was on the way out, now he's been described as the heir to Mills.
    • Some similar names to Big Weekend.  Sabrina Carpenter, David Guetta, Perrie, Bradley Simpson, Jax Jones, Caity Baser, Benson Boone, Rudimental. David Guetta is a good name.
    • Still Scott for me. I'm not too much into the 70s and 80s radio 2 play but do love the injection of 90s and 00s. Then Radio 2 push for all this country stuff and it not a UK thing, and I frankly don't like it. Scott's show as in features, hit and miss. I like the music police bit, but it feels like someone needs to join him. It's a shame Chappers is so busy with sports, as it feels like it could do with someone like him jumping on to help. Or a new partner. Radio 1, take or leave. Matt and Mollie are OK from what I've heard and share a good connection, but it's the playlist that throws me off. They could bring back Chris Moyles to do that show, but as soon as something like Headie One comes on with that casino keyboard produced crap. It would still be switched off from me.
    • Reading through this thread, I don't feel quite so alone now, in thinking that Scott Mills on R2 is not a good 'fit' (even less so than on R5).  I can't quite explain why this is so - I just know it to be so.
    • Arielle has been on holiday for the last 2 weeks getting married / honeymoon.  It'll be live from this week onwards.
    • CassKidd is in for Sian on Sunday 5th May.
    • The brought to tiers feature was also very good from them. I did wonder which DJ's were going to get picked out of the hat, that could have gone one way or the other and the caller said they were very opinionated lol. Correct decision putting katie in god tier!
    • The extended Dua Lipa track from M&M was very funny. I'm hoping Matt and Mollie and Scott have a good relationship a bit like Greg and Zoe collaborate on-air sometimes.
    • Gary Davies in for Vernon Kay tomorrow (Monday 29th April).
