Some good suggestions in the summer schedule. Does anyone know listening figures until 7.30? For adult stations it’s considered prime time, but maybe R1’s target audience wakes up later?

Let’s leave it like this forever:

5-7 Somone new (James Cusack?)

7-10.30 Greg

10.30-12.45 RMC

13-15.30 Dean & Vicky

15.30-17.45 Vick & Jordan

18-20 Jack

20-22 Arielle

I would think 7.30-8 is quite popular, but it definetly isn't like 8-8.30

My predictions for highest listening figures:

EB: 6-6.30am

B: 8-8.30am

RM&C: 12-12.30pm

D&V: 3-3.30pm

V&J: 5-5.30pm

WEEKEND:

WB: 9-9.30am

KT: 11.30am-12pm

M&M: 2-2.30pm

DA: 4-4.30pm

My thoughts on the summer schedule are as follows.

Firstly i think it might be something we have to get used to every summer?

Greg i think deserves a bit of a lay in he does look knackered. I do fear we are in the latter part of his reign. I hope we get him for the rest of 2023 and 2024 though.

Clara getting all summer off seems really odd and you would assume she will have no leave left after this? I think maybe she wants out? Jack is the real star of the specialist output and will be good to have him in the Zane Lowe ish slot.

The real story of the lie in is Arielle i am a huge fan of hers and she does not belong on Earlies. This could be a taste of things to come?

Sam and Danni on Earlies is a great way to promote there new show especially in the 0700-0730 slot.

Clara like the rest of the DJ’s are free lance so they get paid a contract to do a number of shows. If she doesn’t do them she doesn’t get paid.

I’m surprised that the freelance presenters would still have their wage and salary listed in the annual pay list for BBC stars that the papers report on. That said for Clara Amfo i can imagine with covering special events like the coronation and other events and tv projects in and out of the bbc keep for good income either ways.

I wonder if Clara will depart permanently next? Maybe they’ll give Jack future sounds, then bring back the entertainment show at 8pm with Arielle. Play more newer music during future sounds, it does seem like (especially in the first 45 minutes) they’re playing songs which are on the radio 1 playlist anyway (and it’s even more baffling when this selection includes Beyoncé songs that were released 10 months ago).

Sounds good to me ...

Not sure a small lay  in would help more than 2 weeks off

Agreed, coming on air half an hour earlier and coming off air half an hour later than usual isn’t that much of a lie-in especially when you still have to practice your usual morning routine for the team working on breakfast. Would think that start in September going back to usual would be more of a drag if they had done a few weeks break for the breakfast team that would’ve been better and come back with some bumper content, one or to new ideas

I’d consider trying Nat O’Leary in the early morning slot in a temporary before a future move.

Assuming when referencing Future Artists may mean sounds I’d possibly consider in the long term commissioning some more ambitious programmes and projects but in the meantime would have.

Radio 1 Future Sounds as 18:00-21:00 extending it to blend mix of the future sounds and his future artists programmes in a mix and trying to focus it on the music that mostly came out of the last month and at stretch last 3 months. Maybe bring back the Radio 1 Review show in it to be go in-depth looking at other albums and EPs out that week. Focus on providing some extended interviews and feature live sessions and mixes.

Have Arrielle Free do 21:00-23:00 with still focus on playing new music and her choices and curations of her favourite new music and something that could have a dance and electronic influence and having mix of regular co-hosts from the world of comedians to media personalities that fit the stations audience like tv people and such and having mix of entertainment bits.

I’d scrap the power down playlist but have at 23:00-00:00 have

Mon - Lifehacks Late

Tue - Radio 1 Interviews

Wed - Artist In Residence

Thur - Radio 1 Residency

00:00-02:00/02:00-04:00 mix of the stations other specialist music programming. Including airing programmes from Casskid, Sir Spyro from 1Xtra in that slot.

Have to say Jack Saunders hearing him on Future Sounds now sounds rather relaxed and comfortable in the slot. I just hope he doesn’t get passed up on the opportunity. I found Annie Mac was superb presenter of that show. But do feel what people mean about having something of Zane Lowe to him with his energy and enthusiasm and his extensive knowledge of the music. He’s one of those presenters that feels he he knows his stuff and has researched the music fairly well.
