Strange that the day of the challenge has Matt and Mollie sitting for Greg. I wonder if she's supposed to be mobile co-hosting at the same time?

Oh that will be fun if they try to do Matt vs. Mollie while she's on the road.

It's been an excellent mechanism for promoting Matt and Mollie. And Mollie's really put a shift in. I love the physical challenges as they resonate with the audience but I do hope they can find something like the lolathon for creativity next year.

Had the lurgy this week so have been following it all on the radio. Hopefully I'll be well enough for Friday to see her finish in Hull.

It's been a great week of radio. Radio 1 at its best - promoting a great cause and all the DJs on air together and shows how much they all get along. This week has highlighted too just how great the likes of Greg, Matt and Katie are as broadcasters - they have been superb covering the challenge and in their genuine love and support for Mollie (who has been doing so well and is giving it her all).

Lovely too to see Matt & Mollie get their flowers so much in the past month - both thoroughly deserve it and their kindness and good spirit has really shone through these last few days even more than usual. Matt's link yesterday about how Mollie has been a support to him and him to her at around 4.45pm yesterday was just so wonderful and heartfelt and what Radio is all about.

Am I too cynical thinking some of the drama is more theatre than anything?

I always think there not doing the whole thing. Eg. They start and do maybe 5 miles, stop and a someone else takes over in disguise and basically do shifts. The photos and videos are when Mollie is on board.

Some of the timings don't add up like usually finishing at time supposed to finish at

I didn't say she wasn't doing it. I saw Mollie cycle in Burton.

I can see why people would be suspicious of it cos she's knackered and it's hard for professionals to get the times and distances and she has only had 4 weeks training.

My point wasn't that the challenge was fake - though obviously some of the timings are managed to fit a finish during Going Home even though it went wrong yesterday.

What I meant was some of the drama is clearly theatre.  I mean Matt and others have been genuine and touching about personal stories and I am not suggesting fake but there is certainly added theatre along the way to create better radio and fuel donations.

Oh yeah you've got to make good radio from it, I appreciate that point.

They've poorly timed it today she won't be in Leeds until 9pm at this rate. If it was that orchestrated and getting lifts they'd have sorted that better 😂

The only thing I’d call time management is when to begin the day’s peddling.

Did she make it to Leeds

Not yet - she was on the One Show in the last hour when there were still 10 miles to go.

Still going I think - they had her on the One Show and mentioned she still had an hour to the finish line.

So she'll probably be finishing today during her usual Future Pop show.

Do wonder how tomorrow will work with the Chart as it would be quite the effort by Mollie to finish before it. Normally they'd aim to have these challenges done before the Chart

    • Sian Eleri is joining Jack Saunders to co-host from Reading on the 21st August.
    • I honestly don't understand in detail most of what this is about, Unless somebody has talked to core Radio 1 target statistical demographics this is all opinion.  I just can't see how much different Mylo and Rosie are to most of the output.  Can somebody provide clear examples to make the point clearer?   There may be a good issue here but without examples I can't understand.
    • Going home tomorrow is with Sam, Nat and Vicky.
    • I don’t think it’s a case of presenter age.  Scott was nearly 50 and never sounded off target.  RMC (while still a tad commercial sounding) 1000% sound like on target youth radio presenters.  Matt and Mollie too, and Greg, all nearly 40 but sound on target.  As you say Mylo and Rosie younger than many of the flagship Radio 1 presenters but IMO in tone of presentation sounded off target; presumably by virtue of broadcasting on stations with an older target audience for a long time.  I think it’s important to distinguish from personal taste here as well - personally I find Mylo and Rosie far less irritating than Nat and Vicky, but objectively in their style of conversation and general feel Nat and Vicky are absolutely more in line with what you’d want for a 16-29 audience, even if not to my taste.
    • So many people on here and other forums to be fair are talking about age and more specifically the age of Radio 1 Presenters.  So let's go into more detail here. Recently there has been talk about Mylo and Rosie's age and/or how old they might sound.  Now I could be wrong on this but I believe it's Mylo turns 35 later this month. If correct that would make him 6 months younger than Jordan.  And Jordan was the guy many on here said should take over R1 Breakfast.  It also makes Mylo younger than every other regular weekday presenter on Radio 1.  But while I understand it can also come down to style you have to remember the other presenters would have had notes to help them stay in tune with the audience and with notes I sure they both can to.  They are still new to Radio 1 and need to be given a chance. Radio 1 age range is 15-29.  Now I don't have much data for Radio 1 so let's look at Capital.  Capital has an extra 5 years with an age range is 15-34.  Interestingly the data on Global's website (not up to date) says that of all audience who listen to Capital 47% are aged between 15-34 age range.  Meaning 53% of the audience is 35 and older.  The biggest age group for Capital is 25-34 with 27%.  And 58% of the audience is female.  I don't think Radio 1 will be to far from these numbers.   So are some presenters to old for Radio 1?  Well before you answer that you need to answer the question, Who is Radio 1 really aimed at these days?
    • Funny how Jamie will very soon top that list, even without working Thursdays!
    • Vick did go on maternity leave in May though… and she wasn’t especially present in her final few weeks.
    • It’s ironic that Jamie practically matches Vick in number of shows, perhaps Jamie’s attendance on the show shouldn’t have been the joke that it was at the time…
    • God it really is a mess when you set it out like that isn’t it 😮.
    • Here are the stats for Going Home up to 28th August (the last show before Katie and Jamie returns): 1. Vick Hope - 65 shows 2. Jamie Laing - 62 shows 3. Sam McGregor - 52 shows (including 1 bank holiday)  4. Danni Diston - 51 shows (including 1 bank holiday) 5. Katie Thistleton - 26 shows 6. Emil Franchi - 16 shows 7. Sophie Habboo - 8 shows 8. Jeremiah Asiamah - 5 shows (including 1 bank holiday) 9. Lauren Layfield - 2 shows 10. James Cusack - 2 shows (including 1 bank holiday) 11. Vicky Hawkesworth - 2 shows (including 1 bank holiday)  12. Matt Edmondson - 1 show 13. Mollie King - 1 show 14. Lauren Redfern - 1 show (bank holiday)  15. Nat O’Leary - 1 show (bank holiday)
    • It's Lauren Layfield with Conor Knight for the 25th August.
    • CassKidd in for Sian on the Power Down Playlist from the 1st-3rd.
    • Radio 1 Dance W/C 11st August Phoebe IH in for Connor Coates
    • Richie Anderson in for Dermot O'Leary on Saturday 23rd and Saturday 30th August. Ellie Taylor in for Sara Cox for the week starting Monday 1st September. Gary Davies in for Vernon on Monday 1st September.
    • agree, its going to be so good to have Katie back
