Made some changes to Scott's site

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know about some changes I've made to Scott's site, just to try to organise things nicely.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/scottmills/

At the bottom of the page there's those five boxes which we call the "Article Archive" - it always used to be five there, and then the rest were on another page. It was kind of chronological, and stuff got bumped off the top 5 into the long list as it got older.

So I've reorganised this content into three categories now - Guest Gallery, Random Stuff, and Stuff We Made. I think those three categories sum up the three types of content that used to put in the old Article Archive - it's all the same stuff, but there is now a page for each of those three things.

The 5 boxes on Scott's home page will now work as follows -

1. Latest Guest

2. Latest Random thing

3. Latest Thing we made

4 & 5 other promotional boxes

And obviously there's room for promo and latest video etc at the top of that page as well as always. What do you think?

Sam

I like it, the 3 way sorting of things is a good way of doing it.

Now, to uhm, sidetrack this slightly - inspired by this update, and the new homepage, I've thrown together this little mock of what the homepage for the Scott Mills pages could look like. Key words are mock, as it's very rough and unfinished (some bits I spent too much time on, like the modern style email icons, others no time at all) and it's just to show the idea, and also homepage, as most of the content pages would look fine in the current barley style pages, just with the new menu from the promo area.

Only other 2 things to note, I'm pretty much working with what's on the website now which is why the 'header' looks like arse and doesn't have Scott in it, and something else I forget. Oh yeah, just again, it's not pretty - it's a concept idea, just what I think it could resemble based on the new style of the homepage.

I don't know if there are plans for doing something like this at R1 online, but hopefully I've inspired someone.

Yep ScottCam is still up - you can watch the highlights and you can play with a demo version of the console - you know, just in case you want to show people what it used to do :)

Thanks for your mockup JonathanEx! Some nice ideas there. Will discuss them with the team. Just to reassure you all, the intention is absolutely to use the full width of the page eventually, but it's a lengthy ol' process - we need to find something that works for all the Radio 1 DJs (not just Scott), is flexible and futureproof, and something that fits in with the BBC's overall style guides. But we are working on it, promise!

Yeah I guess it all very well for Moyles and Mills and the daytime DJs but when it comes to weekends the pages are a bit bare and it's no way that standard could be kept up on those pages.
