After Michael Vaughan begun to blub this weekend as he stepped down from his role on England's cricket team, the BBC News website look at what will make a grown man cry.

1. Making parents proud

2. Birth of first child - or grandchild.

3. Tribulations of loved one. (Family history)

4. Letting a loved one down.

5. Saying sorry.

6. Letting yourself down.

7. Being dumped.

8. Beaten in a hard-fought game.

9. Winning a hard-fought game.

10. These aren't tears. It's just bits of dust.

Or in the case of a guy I was chatting with 2 weeks ago, watching a prog rock band's gig, hehe...

I think men crying is quite sweet, except when they're blubbing a la Ronaldo then they just look like a wimp.

England getting knocked out of the World Cup. 1st July 2006, and half the boys in my year were blubbing away, on the evening of our end of school prom. Luckily they cheered up after consuming a lot of alcohol.

i've been beyond crying after a breakup (a bad bitter break up a few years ago). i remember just looking at the tv lying on my bed and not being able to absorb anything, thats when you know a guys in a bad way. but lessons learned i suppose.

Yeah, I agree. There are times when guys shouldn't need to hold back. While women are more likely to cry for lesser reasons because of the hormonal rollercoaster, both men and women should be entitled to cry in times of extreme emotion.

I think that men are entitled to cry over other things if they think its nessacary.

Im not one for emotion over films and things.. I dont laugh at comedys unless something is really really really funny.

But then there are a lot of people who are overly emotional, I dont really understand it.

I will laugh and cry at real things... but not films
