Royal Mail still bloody striking

There's two more 48 hour strikes going ahead in the next two weeks. So if you've ordered your Live Lounge and Radio 1 CDs or the Moyles book you could be waiting a little longer...

  • Thursday 4th October (12pm) to Saturday 6th October (12pm)
  • Monday 8th October (4am) to Wednesday 10th October (4am)
  • And then "an unspecified programme of weekly strikes" from the 15th October.

They're seriously taking the p*ss now. Judging by the post office in my town, they don't seem to work enough hours as it is without all these days off work. I might start striking at Budgens too, I need a few days off...

i could do with a day off work next sunday...

Well let's all strike about the lack of booze available on our job, or something ridiculous. At least with the petty excuse for a strike that the tube drivers had they knew when to give in.

That's really quite annoying. The royal mail is so damn unreliable that I end up doing anything I can to avoid ordering things online these days. My sister sent me a card last week but forgot to put a stamp on it, and the 'you need to pay for postage' card arrived on Saturday, and I need to send off £1.24 in stamps, then who knows when the card will actually arrive. My housemate had to pay £1.06 because his parents sent him a birthday card that was too thick and cost £0.06 more so he had to pay a pound extra.

I found out an interesting fact about the Royal Mail today. Their vans can drive and park wherever they like which includes going through red lights, parking on double yellow lines etc as they are acting on "Royal Business".

How can that be ?

The strike starts on thursday, and to cap it all, I just found out that they are going to close my local post office here next year. It had a queue going outside the door all yesterday and there's no way I could go all the way in to the centre of town and queue for 4 hours when I need a post office, it's a joke.

I say good luck to them. Before slating them do a bit of research into why they're on strike.

It's about time people started standing up to unreasonable working practises imposed on them by managers who only care about meeting a target so they get their bonuses.

British workers are subject to some of the longest hours and least public holidays in Europe.

Still, mustn't grumble eh?

I want my Moyles book! I don't like this strike at all, I ordered something from eBay, sent the cheque, and now the seller is claiming I haven't paid for it. Haven't they heard about the strike?

Bah stupid post. I walked into town from uni instead of ordering online and bought the books I needed there, took up an extra hour and a half of my time and tired me out a bit, but at least I have the books.

I'm glad we opted not to have any gig tickets posted here, wouldn't want them going missing.

I wholeheartedly disagree.

1) Postmen and women work bloody hard, they work more than enough hours during all weathers. Some have to walk miles and miles in a day. Every day. I don't think I could do that, especially in light of the cr*ppy weather we've been having recently. Not to mention the early starts, which of course have changed from today but still they have to be at work for 6am now, I think.

2) They're being dictated to by a couple of fatcats in an office somewhere who are so out of touch with the reality of working for the postal service that they think nothing of reducing the postmen's pensions and once again raising the retirement age, among other things.

3) True it's an (unpaid) few days off, unless you're out on the picket line. Which in my town, is most of the workers.

I just think people should cut them a bit of slack instead of being pre-occupied with their precious letters and parcels.

I wholeheartedly concur with Kate, they're fighting for their livelihoods & decent working conditions.

I've a mate who's a fire fighter and you would not believe the way the great 'free?' British press twisted the facts to make them look bad during their dispute.

Remember folks, it's not what you do but who you know, image over content!
