Just wondered will the new images on packets of cigarettes/tobacco stop you from smoking?

Not sure if it'll stop some of the smokers already, as some of them said on the news earlier, the damage is done now.

But i think it will certainly make people think twice before starting.

I guess I should of added I no longer smoke to the poll but I forgot :|, although seeing some of the images would probably make me reconsider smoking so I'm voting Yes Definately

Yes, I agree with Riz. I think in about 10 years it will make a difference, as children growing up around those images will now know the consequences more.

Won't stop me smoking, when my friend brought some back from Holland for me they had pictures on, to be honest i just thought it made fag packets more interesting.

Although saying that, i am giving up in september because the age goes up to 18 on October 1st

Why?, there are plenty of teeny boppers under the age of 16 who currently smoke, why should the age rise stop you as its had no effect previously.

Ex smoker here - I started at 12 so age restrictions made no difference, almost all my family smoked, there were always cigarettes in the house. Only managed to finally give up when a change of lifestyle meant I no longer saw my smoker friends. Motivation is the key - scary repulsive pictures may make the habit seem less cool, but only an inner personal decision to quit will work in the end. Just like any addiction really.

People will happily sit with a box in front of them with the words "Smoking kills" and "Smoking causes impotence" and smoke cigarettes out of it so I don't think this will make much difference, people will get used to the images and not notice them.

I don't think raising the age to 18 will make any difference at all unless they actually ID in the same way they do with alcohol, and 16 and 17 year olds drink.

That would be enough for me! Ughh. I don't smoke, I never have, I think it's horrible and I don't see any point.

Those things they have on packets now are stupid. It makes me sick when i see someone smoking and the packet says something like "smoking seriously harms children"

and they're sat there smoking happily, not arsed.

I'm giving up because i wanna give up anyway. Quite frankly, i can't be arsed to go round getting people to buy fags for me. i'd rather save the £35 a week.

i am not plannign to smoke anyway but it wont prevent any of my mates who do cos they dont care about what it will do to them.
