Agree with most of this above. Listening to only vick and katie today, I was thinking that it doesn't need Jamie. Its very jarring how sometimes he's there and sometimes he isn't. I don't think it needs to be a trio.

Surely there are bigger problems at the moment, Danny on a pretty big slot on the station is literally unlistenable.

I dunno if it is me but even Vick and Katie don't sound as good in that slot alone as they did before.

Maybe I have just fallen out of love with it all.

Jamie is definitely very divisive though.  Some people's "radio comedy gold" is other people's "unlistenable".  I have liked Matt and Mollie, Matt on his own, Mollie and Jordan etc etc.  But couldn't listen to Matt with Jamie.

No hate on Jamie but I just don't like his sense of humour.

Each to their own hey?

Sorry explain what you mean there please? Danny is unlistenable??

Have to say even if there is a good reason for Jamie to be off on Thursdays the optics of them a month in still not be able to do a 'normal week' of the scheduled team for a brand new show isn't great. And if Jamie was meant to be away on Thursdays clearly nobody let whoever runs BBC Sounds know.

Who would've guessed from the Vick & Jordan days though that it would be Vick who's the everpresent so far (just kidding Vick - really rate her as a DJ and I know she has a lot of other engagements outside of Radio 1).

Yep I really struggled with Matt & Jamie which was a shame as otherwise really like Matt.

Unfortunately it comes across on-air whether it's actually try or not that Jamie doesn't know a lot about radio and doesn't seem particularly desperate to improve either or if I'm being generous he's playing an act - neither of which particularly appeals.

The everyman act can sometimes work but you need to have that natural likability and appeal for it to do so in the way that way Chris Stark did.

I mean even towards the end of his stint with Matt Jamie was struggling with getting the Whatsapp number right which is a basic.

I hate reverse snobbery and I post this reluctantly as we shouldn't hold Jamie's background against him, but I do think many listeners will find it hard to identify with Jamie.  One of the things that made Jordan so popular was he sounded like the mate you go for a pint with who always has a great story to tell.

Jordan, Greg, they’re down to earth. That’s what makes them resonate so much with listeners.

It’s not necessarily the fact that Jamie is posh. It’s that the show seems to be really keen to play on it. Within 10 minutes of their first show they were playing voice notes from his Celeb mates. Compare that to Vick and Jordan’s first week in September 2021; their first links were about Jordan’s awkward encounter with his plumber and Vick slapping a roast chicken.

And then on Monday this week, Jamie is sulking (exaggerated sulking admittedly) about something, this ultimately being that another of his celeb mates has cancelled his appearance on their show, and they’re literally reading out texts such as ‘I’m sure this is going to be relatable to the entire population.’

But he is posh, the opposite to Jordan. Not down to earth. You’re right, the show does play on it. If I’m honest, I stopped listening to Going Home, the day Laing started. Sam and Danni were better. 😂

I was gutted when Jordan left - that was my favourite show on the station but I found Sam and Danni a decent replacement...whereas this...

Todays show with Vick and Katie was excellent, just like the old days.

It felt like Jamie is at the centre of the show when he’s on. Typically every show always started with something going on in Vick or Jordan’s lives. Now it feels like it’s Jamie every day: (Jamie’s got a nighttime routine, Jamie’s sad, Jamie calls his parents mummy and daddy, etc.) It feels like Vick and Katie are his side pieces when arguably it should be the other way round.

This might not even be a production decision; Vick said yesterday that it feels like Jamie is the bosses’ favourite, so anyone hoping this is a short term engagement for him may be disappointed…

Katie’s posted on Insta how she’s poorly at the mo (bad cold by the sounds of things). Vick is off all next week and no way could Jamie possibly present solo (imagine!).

So if Katie can’t present on Monday be interesting to hear what they do. Suspect they’ll be asking Matt Edmondson if he’s available, but not too many obvious options at all.

Danny beard might be available.

They might just tell Jamie not to come in and give it to Sam and Danni instead tbf.

Arielle’s off Early Breakfast all week but is doing her new show on Thursday so she may be about as well.

Arielle is in Dubai and Ibiza - I think she has pre-recorded her new show this week (at least that’s what it looked like from her Insta stories on Thursday)

I think if Katie is off it will mostly likely be Matt - he’s the only other one who has presented with Jamie before

Where is Jamie? It felt like he was settling in when Vick wasn’t on but he’s not been on since last Tuesday now. They’ve not even mentioned him, in fact they’ve mentioned Jordan more than they’ve mentioned him in the last two days.

A simple check on his instagram would answer all your questions , he’s on tour with his wife and the team behind his podcast. I suggest anyone to follow the radio presenters, you will learn a lot about their other jobs and work commitments.

I suggest you follow the other DJs too if so, you will learn the hardest working will go further 🤣

I see Katie (and Mairead) were out with Jordan tonight.  I don’t listen to the show any longer, I am shocked they are allowed to mention Jordan.

Since Easter at the beginning of April, Vick, Katie and Jamie have been on together just 4 times. Which is crazy for a brand new, high profile Radio 1 show. Imagine Jordan being off that regularly on Capital because of ‘other commitments’ - would never happen.

Jamie has only presented 6 times in the past month. Katie has presented every single show. Given how she got the job at the last minute I think very likely she would have had other commitments, which she will have cancelled/rearranged, cos being Radio 1 drive time host is a massive gig.

Vick, Katie and Jamie - 4 times; Vick and Katie - 10 times; Katie and Jamie - 2 times; Katie and Lauren - 2 times.

    • Tara Kumar is in for Alyx on Sunday 13th July.
    • Conor Knight & Lauren Layfield are in for Matt & Mollie on Monday 14th July.  Matt is solo on Tuesday 15th July.  Jerry is in for Mollie between Wednesday 16th & Thursday 24th July.  Maia Beth is covering Future Pop on Wednesday 16th & Wednesday 23rd July. On Sunday 27th July the Chillest Show is reduced to an hour, and 20.00-21.00 is a BBC Proms special with JADE. On Thursday 31st July 18.00-20.00 in place of Jack's show it's the Dance Party Warm-Up with Danny Howard (ahead of the Ibiza weekend).
    • Dean McCullough in for Greg w/c 4th August. James Cusack on EB.
    • Well looks like Mollie is off all month now so presumably a personal matter.
    • Intrigued why Matt & Mollie aren't presenting breakfast on Monday, with James in for them instead (which has happened before).. or even James given a chance to present the breakfast show?
    • Sam & Danni seem to be down for Breakfast on Monday. James Cusack on Going Home. That’s another new name in the list of “people who have hosted Going Home in 2025”.
    • Wednesday, surely? But this is another mess, as this weeks Summer press release said it’ll be Sam & Danni no Jamie from the 28th - so it’s actually a whole week earlier!
    • Jamie Laing’s last show before his summer break will be on Wednesday 16th July.
    • I worked out once Scott spent 3 months of a year off his own slot in the Moyles days and more like 4 in Grimmys days, six weeks of his own holiday and projects, six covering Grimmy plus some ad hoc days
    • Back on topic, I think there's quite a few of the current Radio 1 presenters who would be able to adapt to Radio 2's style in the future. It's more of question of how many of them will actually end up there. With much of R2's line up changed over the past couple of years, it's quite possible we won't see much movement there, and R2 management might even decide to look elsewhere to bring in new presenters in future.
    • With OJ covering on bank holidays. She is the best person for the job however... they're going to end up with a situation like Scott covering R1 breakfast back in the day, where she spends quite a bit of time off her own slot covering Breakfast, plus her own holiday and other commitments. She's been filming for something recently which has meant she's been off several days a week since May. She was off last week, on breakfast this week, OJ is on Mon/Tues next week, then She's off the following two weeks.
    • Looking back at this I would say now that Sara is the main cover - I think she has been reestablished as it now
    • Purley on the R1 Dance station.. Someone on DS said don't expect to see any changes to the schedule on the new stations however if they are taking on Capital Dance with this, which they clearly are, which has live presenters 7am - 10pm except for the 11am mix then they'll surely have to have a proper scheduled set of shows. At the moment Arielle is the only "live" per say show and only "live" a few days a week with earlier shows being repeated Thursday Friday and Saturday. Connor and Charlie are clearly pre records but was this only for the time it was online only and they have already got a schedule ready to go on day 1? also of note is that Charlie is taking over a podcast as well as starting a new project with podcasting which makes me wonder if she is about to step back from Dance Anthems all together to concentrate on those and Connor takes over? So you could have Arielle doing 9-12 weekdays live then someone else 12-3 and Connor live 3-6 on R1D and doing Dance Anthems on a Saturday.
    • As none of the Going Home Team aren't currently on the air, that's a bit if an issue. Considering most of the Dance DJs will be out there, I'm surprised none of them are being utilised to host the 1-4 slot that weekend.
    • Going Home presenters have done the last few years ?
