Moyles will stay for another year!

Evening all. I might treat myself to a few drinks tonight as it's warm and the contract at work is now done. 12 more months of early starts!

brilliant news. And it will be really interesting to see what happens next year when both Moyles's and Mills's contracts run out. Radio 1 will probably see the biggest changes in years...

But I'm really happy to see that R1 will be about the same for another year.

unique...

So pleased that I can say Chris Moyles will have been waking me up through secondary school, college and now university. I love The Chris Moyles Show!

He'll only wake you if you have the iPlayer. For most uni students Fearne or Greg will be your breakfast show... But I appreciate what you're saying ;)

Good news about Chris staying for another year, though they couldn't not keep him could they?!

He's Saviour of Radio 1 and all that. Would be hard for the Beeb not to keep him as you say, considering his consistent rating average. :)

Doubt Moyles will be getting another contract extension next year, so it'll be interesting to see what he will be upto next. Radio 5 Live perhaps or another crack on mainstream telly?

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Chris Moyles has signed a one-year deal to continue presenting the Radio 1 breakfast show - and vowed to beat Chris Evans in the ratings.

Moyles, 36 - in the job since January 2004 - will have clocked up 2,500 days by the end of his new contract, believed to be worth around £494,000.

He is already the station's longest-serving breakfast DJ. Now he also wants to be the most-listened to by pipping Evans' 9.5million audience on Radio 2. A Radio 1 source said: "Moylesy is very popular with listeners.

"He wants to keep going and we want him to continue. The one thing he would love to do is to top the ratings and be the nation's No 1 DJ."

Last night Moyles confirmed the deal on Twitter, vowing to celebrate with a few drinks. He added: "Twelve more months of early starts!"

Good news, I reckon they'll try to keep Moyles at Radio one after, maybe offer him a weekend slot but he'll refuse and go to 5live. Possibly take over from Tony Livesey on the 10pm slot, although I like Livesey, he hasn't really replaced Richard Bacon (another radio great-they should get him to do the breakfast show!).

Moyles is one of the most engaging and intelligent DJ's on radio one, and he'll be a loss, the worrying thing is who's going to take over?

I personally think Vernon would be the best bet but I dont think it'll happen due to his age and the fact that alot of people don't like him (although that never stopped Moyles).

Greg James and possibly Anny Mac are the only 'up and coming DJ's' who are worth listening to and I don't think either are currently good enough to replace Moyles, even in a years time.

I hope they don't let Nick Grimshaw anywhere near that show....

As for the rest of radio one this time next year I think Scott and Greg should switch shows next year (although I doubt Scott would hang around for that) and I don't think radio 1 will want to have new breakfast and drivetime hosts - too big a risk. Edith and Jo will be gone if not already. No more Nihal, Vernon Kay will have gone to the States. More bland radio from Matt Edmonson and Dev etc. ... maybe Tom Deacon will still be around .... :(

Unofficial Mills will die, Radio 1 ratings will fall massively and the Sun will go on about how great Nick Grimshaw and Fearne are so great at entertaining the target audience - their close friends and family.

Livesey's only just gone to 5Live though, from what I can see Tinpot Local Radio DJs tend to gravitate toward 5Live nighttime shows (Nottingham's award-winning Frances Finn has done the odd spot of Filling in for Stephen Nolan recently and I think Livesey himself was on BBC Lancashire or something?) so I can't see Moyles replacing him. I am glad they've at least kept Rachael 'The Hodge' Hodges on that show though, her presence continuing in the same sort of role she had on Bacon's show really helped with the transition and I'm sure judging by certain Facebook groups that some only tune in to 5Live at night to hear her.

Moyles had a weekend slot before in addition to his afternoon shows and I seem to remember him not particularly liking it (I don't think it lasted long).

Also it has to be rememebered there's a plan to completely move 5Live to Manchester.

This almost confirms that any schedule changes will be minimum - refreshing the specialist shows, and then preparing the schedule for a big shake up next year, meaning over the next year we will have Grimmy, Reggie, Matt referred to more and involved in station promotions.

This could be the last year of Radio 1 as we know it with Moyles and Mills both having contracts ending at the same time.
