  1. A station like radio 1 cant go on for ever having stand in presenters all over the place or listeners will tune off not knowing who is on. Radio is about habit and getting to know the people you listen too! Iv seen a rumour that Vernon Kay is leaving Radio 1? Though it did say he was leaving Sept 2012 so not sure how that stands. Anyone been listening to Phil Taggart these last 2 weeks? He has been great in the 10-midnight slot. Amazing music choices, great features and I like his style/on air persona. Hope he moves into this slot permanently. He said Annie Mac is in the slot for a month after this week though. If Moyles stays on R1 I think he should come into the Sat/Sun morning 10am-1pm slot. Would be ideal for his style and weekends needs a boost at the minute. I dont think Coxy will stay at the station after covering Fearne's maternity. I think she will move over to R2. I also think Matt Edmondsons show should move to a 2 hour show as its a good show and he just needs more time. Maybe he should have the 10pm-midnight slot on Sundays which would also fit with the Sunday night theme to the schedule. He is getting a good following and this will grow in a regular longer slot. Then Weds 9pm-10pm could either be something like a 1 hour film show with Rhiannon, or give Gemma Cairney a 1 hour show for something as I think she is pretty good and needs to get more air time - I though she would have got the Maternity cover gig for Fearne to be honest! Also, I dont really understand the point of Jameela Jamil on the station. That 2 hour request show is pointless. I think Danny Howard should do the request show on a Saturday afternoon, the Sunday Evenings do Dance Anthems old style with the tunes you had heard out over the weekend etc. I dont know how much longer Dev can stay on Earlies but I dont think he is good enough for any other shows just yet. The only slot I could see him taking is 1pm-4pm Sat/Sun though where does that leave Huw, who is clearly being lined up for a daytime role when Scott is pushed, or to replace Zane if he leaves. The thing is at the minute there are loads of presenters just doing 1 show here and 1 show there, the schedule is very bitty, and not a coherent planned out one with themes to each day etc like it used to be. They are my thoughts on what I would like to see anyway!
  2. It sounded like a last minute thing, as I was listening to Huw on his normal show today 1-4pm and he said he was doing a double and covering the chart and had only found out that day, and he also said he was the last option so everyone else must have said no!
  3. He also has time where he may be away from r1, but is doing other BBC Projects and so is still at work with the BBC. I dont actually think he has that many holidays. He has prob only had 5 weeks hol its just that he must cover 6-8 weeks on breakfast each year so in total its about 3 months he is away from his own show - which i think is wrong.
  4. Thats another good point. These guys were building up a good following and actualy making onto cover mainstream shows. Which is what INDJWT shuld be about - i mean its hwere Toddla & kissy came from - so whats the point if they arent moving them onto bigger and better shows.
  5. Its weird that Kutski has moved off having his own show too. To be part of this residency rubbish. Which is basically another version of the Essential Mix, and INDJ'sWT If they had kept a decent Thurs night schedule I would have been happy what ever they done on a Friday night, but they havent. And they have messed all the other nights around too, making chnages that dont make sense. I mean on Monday you have a Rock show followed by a Hip Hop show, and on Tues you have a Punk Show followed by a asian Beats show. Why split the Rock & Punk up - they made sense. Mon was always about that kind of music. Tues was alway about new and world music, Weds was always for New Music, and Thurs about the dance and house music and those themes followed all the way from Zanes show. The new schedule doesnt make sense.
  6. Been expecting the Jules and Gile P exit, and the F&G, for a while I guess. Specialist Dance hasnt seen a big shake up on R1 for a while - I think the biggest thing I can remember is Annie Mac coming in and that seems like years ago. The most shocking thing here is the Kissy exit. His show is one of the few specialist shows I listen to, and I honestly think he is one of the ones more suited to R1 - and could even make a move into daytime cover if he wanted. This must have more to do with his decisions - was he not enjoying his show, does he want to focus more on live shows/his music?! Maybe they wanted him to move to a live Friday night show and that didnt suit him?! Anyway, he will be a sad loss!
  7. Whilst I think Adam Catteral would be a good solid addition (someone with a solely radio background is what the station needs!) i dont think he will get more than the odd cover. If you look at weeks coming up they have tom deacon covering early breakfast and this is a great opportunity for someone who I think is totally under used, as is Matt Edmondson, who I think would be the perfect choice for weekend breakfast if it was to come up.
  8. Rob Howard back again - obv a cheaper option than adam catteral? seemed they were getting him in for a while and now Rob Howard seems to have got a 2nd shot. anyone hear last time round?
  9. Matt Edmondson has really grown. I dont listen to Tom Deacon at all but I dont know if Matt Edmondson is suited to what that slot has become recently. He is surely being groomed for a bigger slot, Im wondering if there will be any schedule changes in the traditional September period or as was always the usual pattern until this last year when they have just been making smaller chnages throughout the year. I cant see any major changes on the horizon unless its in the specialist areas, especially now that Moyles has confirmed his new contract to stay on.
  10. I actually think this trail is pretty good. It shows they are taking into account the unique identity of Scotland, they understand that this is the biggest music event if the year in the country and that they respect that it is in Scotland. Maybe it is a bit long but I think its a brilliant idea. Im English but moved to Scotland with work last year and never met people who are so proud of where they come from - the bit which talks about cheering when your 3-0 down couldnt sum it up better.
  11. I think its just because the chart is kind of specilasit area and it has regular listeners so helps to have regular/familiar voices. Scott has been the chart stand in for as long as I can remember back to the Mark Gooider, Wes and JK and Joel days. Either that or counting backwards is something noone else can do!
  12. Sara is better now than she has ever been and probably shows exactly what being a presenter on radio 1 is all about and needs more of! I hope she isnt off to Radio 2 yet as there is many more years at R1 left in her! And she no way suits Radio 2!!
  13. 1. Scott Mills - Listened to him since Early breakfast days and he has just got better. His shows are so carefully planned but seem so off the cuff with brilliant features! 2. Chris Moyles - What can I say! He is just the saviour of radio 1! Love the mayhem! 3. Sara Cox - The most entertaining time of my day when sara is on the radio - love it when she covers ANYONE! She suits any time of day! 4. Huw Stephens - Him and Greg should swap as he has a much bigger appeal and perfect personality to hold a show 5. Reggie Yates - Shame he only has set format shows as I think he would be much better on a free show 6. Edith Bowman - Its only once she left weekdays I realised just how good a listen she was 7. Greg James - Promoted to early and needed more time to gain a following - weekends should have been next! 8. Vernon Kay - used to be pretty high but over the last year or 2 iv gone off him 9. Dev - Entertaining enough for earlies and occasional cover but not a regular listen as is quite dull 10. Fearne Cotton - Doesnt deserve the slot she has!!
  14. So maybe we will go another year without a significant schedule shake up. Shame I think as while Moyles and Mills are still at the top of their game they are surrounded by drab and boring shows and they needed an opportunity to dosomething new. Greg and Fearne shows are easy listening just like some of the weekend stuff but nothing is a must listen any more.
  15. There really should be some kind of rule/policy at the station with the people who manage the schedule and covers no more then 2 of the daytime/weekend DJ's per week should be away/out of normal shows, for example. I manage a team of 8 managers and have to make sure that no more than 2 are away at anyone time, or I don't have enough people to cover shifts properly, or get everyones tasks covered - basically we have a week of shit - i get one person to cover another and then another and theres always one thing that gets neglected! Its kind of the same principle.
  16. Thats true. It hardly happens now - weekends used to be where the up and coming presenters made their name, got a bit of daytime exposure before getting a regular weekday slot. Its changed the last few years with Reggie, vernon & Jo and Edith at the weekends who clearly didnt want to do cover. I hate at the moment how when someone is off the whole daytime schedule gets changed while they move people all over the place. doesnt work.
  17. Personally i think its a bit of a shame that more hasnt been made about Jo's departure. For someone who has been at the forefront of radio 1, the actual queen of radio 1, she should have had a much bigger departure/special one off show back on midweek with some live lounge events etc. Would have been great for Cotton to have been given a week off or even just a Friday and Jo come back and cover to say goodbye for a proper celebration rather than slip out the backdoor on a sunday where she was left to do nothing! Shame on you radio 1!
  18. i guess you cant knock them for bringing in some "raw talent" as we all keep saying they need too. Though as a film reviewer .... lets see how her fist review is. From a critic its nice to get a bit of authority, like they know their stuff not just someone who went and saw the film. I hope she's not like that games reviewer Greg has who just gives you no information!
  19. This is interesting! Will be good to hear Reggie again when he has the freedom to do a show and not the strict format shows he does at the weekend. Iv always thought he would get a perm daytime slot eventually if he stayed aroundlong enough! Not looking forward to the Reggie/Fearne handovers though!
  20. Its not really news this- we all know Moyles will either go this or next year (or we presume the time might be about right). And we all know that Greg is destined for big things at the station. We all know that Scott, although he is easily the most natural successor, wont get breakfast permanently (maybe a short 8-10 months stint to fill a gap while they jiggle the schedule) as he is not the long term future. I do think we all forget Grimmy though. And finally, we have to remember that most presenters at the station have been there for a long time. When Moyles goes I think it will spark a year of changes with some other names following while the station tries to recreate its identity - its a normal process. Moyles, Scott, Zane, Pete Tong, Bowman. Theres been some names who we all class as newcomers still who realistically have been on the fringes for a while waiting for this shake up - Grimmy, Huw, Reggie, Dev, Annie Mac, Kissy Sell Out, Tom Deacon & Matt Edmondson. These are the future names with Kissy & Annie Mac fronting specialist, Matt, Greg, Annie, Reggie, Grimmy on Daytime and Tom Huw & Dev weekends!
  21. I hope this means more Grimmy in day time and is a gradual move to him taking a perm slot after the Moyles/Mills era, think he holds a show really well, and along with Greg James are the station names for the future.
  22. Big loss - I liked James King, and as someone who works in cinema & film industry found his reviews really honest and engaging! he has left big shoes to fill..... Wonder who is out there? Iv been hoping that they would get rid of that pair on film 2011 as they are awful and put someone like James King in who knows what the audience want to hear!!
  23. Just listened to the Podcast for Moyles this week - at the end they mention about a special announcement next week saying that if we like the show we are going to get a little bit extra! They cant be extending it even more, so it must be an exclusive digital/online show maybe? Anyone got any ideas? Also, if they are launching something new it kind of squashes speculation that he could be leavin gin 6 months or so!
  24. Jo has been heading to Radio 2 for a while now doing a lot of cover and 1 off specials - it has always been the next move for her at some point, after she was taken off R1 weekdays. Its sad news though as she does bring that class to the station and you are always guaranteed a good show ulike others who have ups and downs - a true Radio 1 legend I think. Im happy she has chosen to go now in this way, rather than fading out. Maybe it will show the R1 bosses what gap it will leave. Would have loved Coxy to have taken back her Weekend Afternoon slot, but I am sure Huw will do a good job - his cover shows are always great, but personally I saw him taking Grimmys show once he was moved into a daytime slot (most likely next year when/if Moyles goes!) Something tells me that Huw taking this slot is just a temporary fill for the summer (perfect for festival coverage) ahead of a shuffle around in September.
  25. Maybe it will be a chat based show with a special guest who choses the songs? With him being an ents DJ not a music specialist DJ, this wold make more sense. He seems to be on the nose with entertainment news so maybe its just a magazine type show with music news.
