So..?

Mine:

The Defamation Of Strickland Banks - Plan B

I just want to talk about this album...

The album tells the story from the first-hand perspective of Strickland Banks, a fictional character played by Plan B. The first two tracks are love songs Strickland sings at a concert, and are likely to be about his girlfriend, to whom he refers later in the album. In "Stay Too Long" he celebrates the success of his concert with a night out which culminates in him having a one night stand with a woman. In "She Said" we learn that this woman is obsessed with his music and believes herself to be in love with him. He rejects her so she alleges that he raped her. He is sent to prison and much of the rest of the album is about his experience inside. Through Plan B's lyrics we see Strickland get more isolated and insecure throughout as he struggles to cope with prison life. In "Prayin'" he is confronted by another prisoner who attacks him. With the help of another inmate Strickland kills the attacker in self-defence and is burdened with this guilt. The last track, "What You Gonna Do" Strickland is in court again as new evidence has been brought up on his case. The album finishes with the listener not sure of whether he is sent back to prison or released, leaving it open to interpretation.

I think it is being made into a short film.

I'm listening to the whole album in order tonight. Cannot wait(: (Sad much?).

Plan B = Genius.

I don't even know where to start...

In terms of "greatest" being an album that is not only amazing to listen to but also important to the evolution of music over the years, there are so many to name, not limited to

Pink Floyd - The Wall

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of The Moon

David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust

AC/DC - Back In Black

Nas - Illmatic

Radiohead - Ok Computer

Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral

The Beatles - Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band

Marvin Gaye - What's Going On?

Michael Jackson - Thriller

Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin

And that's not even counting the genres I haven't even begun to touch on, and the albums that didn't make it into the charts and aren't considered mainstream but still made a huge impact on how music developed and expanded. I don't think a single album made in the last ten years can match any of these albums for overall greatness.

In terms of greatest as in my personal favourite albums which also are amazing, you really can't step wrong with Appetite For Destruction by Guns N' Roses which killed off hair metal and began a new era of hard rock and roll, where every song just kicks ass and you don't stop dancing and singing along, which paved the way for Nirvana to kill GnR off with Nevermind (also a tremendous album that I'd consider an all-time great). August and Everything After by Counting Crows is almost perfect from top to bottom, just one of the most emotional and beautiful albums ever made. Eminem's first two LPs were landmark moments in hip hop and he never topped the creativity he showed in those albums.

And although it'll never even graze any top albums list, I can't top Mechanical Animals by Marilyn Manson. It was the album that changed my life as a God-fearing christian child whose eyes were opened to a new world when Manson stepped onto a stage in Dublin and set fire to a cross made of televisions singing Rock Is Dead. That one is hard to replace in my heart.

For me, for an album to be considered to be one of the greatest ever it needs to be more than just a collection of great songs, but ones that are important in its own context whatever that may be, and stand the test of time and will forever be remembered, loved and adored, and will stick out amongst the millions of other albums.

D'Angelo - Brown Sugar

Jay Z - The Blueprint

Outkast - Speakerboxxx/The Love Below (but it's only really The Love Below that I liove)

Bob Marley - Exodus

Erykah Badu - Baduizm, & New Amerykah 1: 4th World War, & New Amerykah 2: Return of the Ankh

Jill Scott - Who is Jill Scott?

Kanye West - 808s & Heartbreaks, & Late Registration

Lauryn Hill - The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill

The Fugees - The Score

Amy Winehouse - Back to Black

Ever? Plan B?

Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd

The White Album and Revolver and Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Beatles

Yes I'll go for Dark Side of the Moon too. Went to a fancy party last year in a mansion in the peak district. Was on the lawn at the back of the house and someone must have got fed up with the muzak and put on DSOTM and cranked it up REALLY LOUD.

It was AWESOME I tell ya!

Thriller

And, the newer ones

Oracular Spectacular

Hmm.. You're probably right, actually. There's some good songs on there, but, when I think about it, it's not the best.. Hm.

    • OJ Borg is in for Trevor Nelson on the Rhythm Nation tonight (with Phill Williams on overnight). He's also in for Michael Ball for the next two Sundays (12th and 19th May). Ros Atkins (BBC's Analysis editior) is in for Jeremy Vine on Thursday. Another new name to Radio 2 is Oliver Hides from BBC Radio Wales. He sat in for Owain Wynn Evans yesterday and he's in again this Thursday (9th May) and Bank Holiday Monday (27th) Spoony in for Scott Mills from Tuesday 28th till Friday 31st May.
    • Thought they would make it easier to get to this event. There's been no communication from the council or organisers about travel, even though there's talk of train strikes. Smaller councils have done a better job.
    • They do sound good together, but I'm not sure Rylan will want the extra commitments.
    • I have accepted Chris is unlikely to join Scott's show, and that Chappers has moved on, but I still think he could do with a co-host. The most logical solution, I think, is Rylan. He appears more often on his show than not, and they are great together. Radio 2 could lose Rylan's Saturday show and extend his reach by appearing during the week. I think they'd be great!
    • Tattoo took a while to grow on me. I couldn't see the fuss until weeks after. We have a split household here where the war on Gaza is overshadowing an enjoyment. I'm hoping for a protest of some sort.
    • I've heard that the staging is very impressive.  That and him being "known" might prevent an embarrassing result.  I'm a terrible judge of Eurovision though as Tattoo is still so very meh to me.
    • Feels like after the success of Sam Ryder we are going back to our old ways. Olly Alexander's song is pretty weak. Anyone fancy our chances this year?
    • The more time goes on the more you think if they'd actually put some thought into it it should've been Vick & Katie from the start. A proven pairing and Katie ended up on the show anyway - whereas Katie's even mentioned she was only asked to join after the Jamie announcement And even by Going Home standards on time off, it's quite funny that a few months in we still haven't had a full week of the supposed line-up - and that's with a 4-day week.
    • I heard something about what is your favourite wood? Wtf 😂
    • Was the same vibe on the Easter Monday show they did too. Just random questions and the like…. Katie is definitely the glue around making the show listenable.
    • Vick and Jamie together are quite… awkward. Random discussion seems to be at an all time high without Katie. Maybe it’s just that there’s a lack of features today.
    • Jamie not even knowing about the big weekend day and the fact he starts the show at 14:00 just says everything.
    • I still haven’t forgiven Radio 1 for signing Laing. Vick and Jordan was good, you could hear the chemistry on air
    • I just want to add though that I am beginning to enjoy the show a bit more now that it’s settled in - I think Jamie (when he’s there) has calmed down a bit and then the new features that have been progressively added over the last couple of weeks have been good too.    I still don’t think it’s a patch on Vick and Jordan together, but it is now a show that seems like it could have legs into the future and once Matt and Mollie start in July, I could see myself sticking with R1 all afternoon.
    • I think it’s a slimmer line-up and seems to fall short in previous years where it seemed almost double that I know Raye is booked to perform and is a headline name. I think the issue with a station like capital they are dealing with a rather lacklustre year for pop and theres no real big pulls for pop festivals that are an easy sell out right now. I think Capital has had seen it’s Capital Ball’s as for any generic pop music listener I don’t know whether Bradley Simpson, Aitch and Paul Russel have the universality to play in a stadium even Sugababes think it would be better if they chosen a smaller outdoor location or Wembley arena.
