Agreed, I was to young to hear him and whilst I heard him for minutes at a time previously his programme didn’t appeal to me but as you said cant deny his impact and respect what had achieved over his radio career@DC

I assume Sara must have broken the news. Have Radio 1 even given it a mention. Tbh I hope they do, it's just plain wrong if they don't if I'm truthful.

yes Jordan mentioned Steve Wright a little earlier in the show.

Fair enough. Wasn't my era for radio 1 as I said but DJ's like Steve wright were superstars back then. Imagine tik tok stars nowdays but amplify it by about 10.

Yeah even if he wasn't your exact preference its just sad anyway

And had a big impact especially with brining zoo format to the UK in the 80s

Yes, which influenced an era of British radio and many successful shows someone that imagine Scott Mills, Chris Moyles, Chris Evans and many others seemed to have been influenced by that style brought something that really worked over decades.

He bought the Zoo format to the UK really. Which later went on to be used by Chris Moyles a lot for his Radio 1 show. He was a gamechanger

Oh no doubt the ones who deny the world exists past 1990 will use it as an excuse to have a go at Scott. Talking of whom, has posted a very warming tribute on social media. I imagine he's upset as are the rest of the Radio 2 DJ's. Steve wasn't just a radio legend, they worked with him day to day.

Much enjoyed Scott on R1 - But sounds all wrong on R2, especially in light of who he replaced.

I miss the features, but the music is better. I don't miss hearing Stormzy and Dave all the time tbh. So kind of balances back out for me.

I’m of the age that I quite like Dave & Stormzy. I find it seems like theres too much of the 90s and 00s played so much pop on the station for me to listen.

Even Dave and Stormzy seem old music to me, DC 🤣

It's all this drill "I'll stab ya nan if you say hello to me" type stuff I can't put up with. Was creeping into the playlists heavily in Scott's final years on Radio 1. Some of the dance stuff they play is OK nowdays though.

The 90s (95ish upwards) and 00s radio 2 play I don't mind tbh. That's their job nowdays though as Roy Keane would say. Scott played a lot of that and lived through those eras when they were all new, makes sense he does it now on Radio 2 for the audience that's moved over there.

Sadly though. Lewis Capaldi's depressing durge is on both stations, can't get away from that anywhere.

Greg James opening with Steve’s jingle this morning, very fitting.

And a joke about loving the show, haha.

So sad to lose Annie and Steve in such a small amount of time.

What is clear is the admiration that the current generation of Radio 1 DJs had for him as well as his Radio 2 colleagues and other presenters across the industry. Dean just gave a nice little tribute at the start of the show.

The 'Non Stop Oldies' is returning this afternoon during Scott's show (I assume at 3pm like it used to be) in tribute to Steve Wright.

    • Matt and Jerry again next week (on the schedule for every day except Monday but I’m guessing it will be the same then).
    • Vicky Hawkesworth sits in for Danni on Going Home on the 18th August. Another name to add to the Going Home roster this year!
    • This Sunday:   7pm - Chillest Show (extended by 1h) 10pm - Radio 1 Ibiza Prom, 2015 11.30pm - The Essential Mix
    • Snuck in the latest press release about the next buch of Radio 1 Residency DJ's is that the show is going to be renamed 'The Residency on Radio 1 Dance' later in the year. https://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/2025/oppidan-kettama-sg-lewis-taylah-elaine-radio-1s-residency
    • Mollie & Jerry are currently scheduled to be presenting together for 18th August-21st August.
    • Conor Knight and Lauren Redfern are on 10:30am-1pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday this week. Joel Mitchell is on 1-4pm on Sunday.
    • Matt's production company has done a few TV shows I think - I can completely see him moving behind the scenes more generally (maybe not as controller!) when presenting work dries up, he's a smart guy. I can't see many of the current presenters at R2 for an age. Melvin, Mollie and Katie are most likely and they're just as likely to go into/back into commercial for a while as they're fairly mainstream and universally liked.
    • Aled was more of a producer than presenter, he did do the Surgery but was a producer on The Chris Moyles Show and contributed as a presenter like how producer Tom or Amy contribute on Greg’s show. Since Matt’s main role is a presenter I think it would be unlikely for him to become Radio 1 Controller since his main focus at Radio 1 isn’t production like Aled’s was.
    • Aled Haydn Jones was a presenter before he was controller, he did The Surgery and Chris Moyles Breakfast Show. I could see Matt going into Controller because he’s already in managerial roles with his games and puzzles company and he does some tv producing like that Make Me A Prime Minister show. I agree about Greg he’d rather be on air.
    • I really can’t see Greg or Matt as a Radio 1 Controller, it’s usually a producer who goes to the controller roles, having a presenter would be weird. Also Greg is really passionate and clearly loves being on the radio so taking a break wouldn’t be expected. Rickie and Melvin wouldn’t really work on a Radio 2 extension (if that actually happens) in my opinion since it’ll be based around older music like 50s/60s/70s so it would be someone like Gary Davies, Tony Blackburn or they’re get a commercial presenter to come back to host. Sian Eleri would probably go to Radio 2 at some point, maybe taking over Radio 2 Unwinds on a Sunday?   With Dermot doing an Alternative Sounds of the 00s show it would be interesting to see when a Sounds of the 00s show will appear on Radio 2, and maybe we’ll see someone from Radio 1 move across to host that. Sounds of the 80’s started in 2013 and Sounds of the 90’s in 2020 so around 2027 would be the time to start a 00s based show on Radio 2, especially with Radio 1 20’s being launched this year. Sara Cox moved across from Radio 1 and hosted SOT80s and Fearne was only at Radio 1 a few years prior to SOT90s launch.
    • Mollie and Katie will end up at Heart. Rickie and Melvin will end up on the R2 extension. Charlie on capital Dance. I can't see any presenters heading to r2 anytime soon. Greg I think will take a break from radio completely after his stint on breakfast and then maybe take over as R1 controller after Matt who replaces Aled. Sian Eleri I can see as a weekend R2 host
    • Josh Widdicombe in for Romesh on Saturday 2nd, 9th and 16th August.
    • Good to hear Martha on Future Dance this evening, makes a change from her being on in the middle of the night!
    • Jack Saunders is presenting the Future Sounds show from Reading Festival on the 21st August with Nat and Vicky (10:30-1pm) and Sam and Danni (1pm-4pm) presenting from Reading Festival on the 22nd August.
