6 music is becoming big with me latley. i'm loving dance anthems with dave pearce, he sounded great driving down the motorway sunday night. pair mark & lard back up and stick them on there, and it will be my number one station.

on the grid.

Thank God for Richard Bacon on (of all possible BBC Channels) 5Live. Grimmy getting Colins show is possibly the greatest mistake in the History of Radio 1 ever, The slot really is wasted. "The Grimm Show" I can see it being after slimey grimey takes over.

Still, at least Colin will be on 5Live, Hopefully still doing Fighting Talk (which I enjoy) so alls not lost, shame that hes leaving the station, but everyone has to move on at some point.

Just to put things at a rest, Radio 1 have confirmed that Nick Grimshaw will be taking colins show permenantly:

Mar 17, 2009 - After ten years at BBC Radio 1, Colin Murray is leaving to join 5 Live full time. His nightly 10pm till midnight slot will be filled by weekend presenter Nick Grimshaw.

Colin is no stranger to 5 Live as he hosts the weekly Fighting Talk show during the football season. His new job will include a Friday night and Sunday afternoon show. He said: "I'm honoured to be given these new shows on Radio 5 Live. With it comes a responsibility to deliver the best sporting radio content anywhere in the world, and I intend to give 100 percent while introducing my own style of presentation."

Nick, who started his radio career just a few years ago working as part of the promo team at Smooth (FM) in Manchester, will move to the new Monday to Thursday, 10pm-midnight slot from the weekend breakfast show but will continue to co-host Switch with Annie Mac on Sunday nights.

Ben Cooper, Head of Programmes, Radio 1, says: "It will be fantastic to get Nick's mix of humour, music and guests on four nights a week. I look forward to it soon becoming the 'must listen to' show for our young audiences."

Nick Grimshaw adds: "I'm so excited to be taking on a whole new challenge. Doing an evening show for Radio 1 is something I've always dreamed of and I can't wait to start."

Well, if you look back at this thread everybody has been talking about putting other people in for Colin and it not being Nick!!!!

Hate to sound like an arrogant so-and-so, but I remember predicting this in an old post, and getting a barrage of abuse.

Pfft hardly a barrage of abuse - http://www.unofficialmills.co.uk/communities/showthread.php?t=8245#5

That's because they read the first post which clearly states Grimmy will take over.

Yes, but that was only from 1 source. Now other sources, etc with things from R1 management confirm it further....putting to rest peoples thoughts about someone else might be able to get the show. The answer is, non of us will get our wish.

Suit yourself but it clearly quotes Nick Grimshaw in that article.

I will, thankyou.

I've never been a huge fan of Colin anyway and I think Radio 1 could benefit from him moving to 5 Live. It could also help his career, so everyone wins.

Colin confirmed on his show last night that his last show will be May 28th and explained that he had to choose between sport and music because he didnt have time to do both.

It makes sense for him but its a shame that hes leaving R1, I really like his humour, knowledge and attitude.

He is in touch with everyone of all ages and in some ways is a good role model..he doesnt try and make money out of everything eg adverts, turn up at every film premiere/party etc. He usually tries to be fair and consider both sides of arguments.

How on earth do they think that Grimmy will be a good replacement?

And what wilh happen to Rachel and Natasha?

Absolutely gutted that Colin is ending his show- I listen most nights while in bed reading or snoozing and have grown to love him. This was traditionally the "John Peel" slot, designed for eclectic mix of music and humour, I don't think Grimmy's style will suit.

Personally, I feel this slot would be better suited to Rob Da Bank, or any of the "Nations" presenters- Huw, Bethan, Vic.

yes. basically a dj who has been at the station quite a while and has earned that slot, not someone who just walks in and takes it. i wonder what john peel would make of what the station is becomng today?

I think the phrase "Spinning in his grave" would be appropriate.

Why aren't radio 1 acknowledging the news that Colin is leaving? Its front page news on the R5L website, but Radio 1 website and newsround doesnt mention it anywhere?

I wonder if it was as much a surprise for the R1 management as it was for us? It certainly will make scheduling interesting for them!

If they wanted to they could do a whole tribute to Colin before he leaves....hes worked in almost every area of R1, so they could recap regional progs...evenings...weekends...the outside broadcasts, interviews, the Colin and Edith Show and the Colin Murray show !!!!

Also, they dont want to pull attention to it. I'm sure they will do a load of promotion for Grimshaw when he starts but I think for now they will just it nice and quiet and bumbleing along nicely.

I personally think this is a good move, I like Nick Grimshaw :) Although it does seem odd to pass over Huw Stephens for promotion. I wonder how much of Colin's show he'll keep? I hope he'll keep Spoken word surgery and only one of either Audio Bully or MMD, they sound too similar to warrant both being part of the show imo, he'll also want to introduce his own features, no doubt.

As for weekend brekkie replacement I can see Greg James doing it, maybe have Sara Cox go 1 - 4 weekdays and either have Edith doing lie - in or Edith (and James King) 1 - 4 weekends and Nihal doing lie - in. I don't think they'll want to let go of any of the daytime presenters at this point (unless they want to move to another station, but radio 2 have already announces their re - shuffle and no radio 1 presenter is in sight!) I say Ronnie Herel for early brekkie, or get Moyles to start at 6 and have an extra specialist show?

It was on newsbeat yesterday, so they have said it. But why would they put it all over their front page? He's leaving R1 not joining it.

I think because it is causing a lot of comment on boards like this...R1 should make and leave a statement somewhere about it! Colin has been part of R1 for a long time..and it wouldnt hurt to say thank you and goodbye! Not every listener was listening to newsbeat yesterday evening.

    • I see Katie (and Mairead) were out with Jordan tonight.  I don’t listen to the show any longer, I am shocked they are allowed to mention Jordan.
    • At least I do not ask stupid questions…😂
    • I suggest you follow the other DJs too if so, you will learn the hardest working will go further 🤣
    • A simple check on his instagram would answer all your questions , he’s on tour with his wife and the team behind his podcast. I suggest anyone to follow the radio presenters, you will learn a lot about their other jobs and work commitments.
    • Where is Jamie? It felt like he was settling in when Vick wasn’t on but he’s not been on since last Tuesday now. They’ve not even mentioned him, in fact they’ve mentioned Jordan more than they’ve mentioned him in the last two days.
    • Scott's show is on the road next week, live from Malmö in Sweden on Wednesday and Friday, ahead of Eurovision. As he's doing the semi final coverage on the TV on Tuesday and Thursday alongside Rylan, Gary Davies sits in for him on those days.
    • I don't feel there's so much overlap between M&M and Scott's shows. M&M is of a similar calibre to Scott & Chris on R1, with genuine laugh out loud moments and usually a show packed full of real interesting content. Scott's R2 show is IMO a shadow of the stuff he did on R1 (not his fault, he's doing exactly what station management want), with music and content to appeal to a much older audience.
    • To be fair, Scott & Chris would've still been fine on Radio 1. It was mentioned at the time that Scott's move was very much on Radio 2's part rather than Radio 1 wanting to move them on. That's the one problem that Radio 2 has, trying to appeal to such a wide demographic.. it's the perfect listen for many, but equally a turn off for many others. I think they have the balance fairly right.
    • I agree Scott has always been a good standalone presenter, but always better when with someone. When chappers left the radio one show it felt a different show and Chris joining was what it needed and brought new life. for the format of the radio 2 show Scott’s show fits well with the station but again, there’s the huge gap between radio1 and 2 As been said already old radio2 listeners feel it now feels too young with latest changes, yet old radio1 listeners still feel radio 2 feels too old. The inbetween stage demographic of too old for radio 1 but too young for radio 2 is still not catered for radio 2 was left to grow old with its audience for too long and to change things up now feels to try and change a brand image the right thing to do is leave it as it is and cater for that 1.5 demographic which I’m sure the new proposed 00s and 10s station will do if approved. Problem is it’s so overdue that by the time it gets off the ground these listeners are already likely to be lost and the changing image of radio2 likely to lose what it stands for as a brand with the “it’s too young now “  moving to boom and the “ it still sounds old “ crowd not able to move with their favourite presenters like Scott so finding themself on capital a radio 1.5 would have been perfect for Scott and Chris, seems unlikely but this is why I think who branding of bbc radio needs a rethink if these new stations get off ground
    • Bank Holiday Monday Schedule 6am-10am: Arielle Free in for Greg 10am-2pm: Dean & Vicky (No Rickie, Melvin & Charlie) 2pm-6pm: Vick & Jamie (No Katie) 6pm onwards: As normal.
    • Dare I say they've sounded great this past week?  Very much gelling.  Maybe less pressure?  Seem to be having a genuinely good time and not forcing things.
    • I'm in the minority in my workplace, most of them love country music.  Me, the American, does not care for it.  That said, I haven't haaaaaated some of the country adjacent stuff that's been on the R1 playlist.
    • The Eurovision semi finals are on from 8 to 10pm on Tuesday 7th and Thursday 9th May with Richie Anderson. That means Sara Cox in on till 8 on those days.  Saturday 11th May is Eurovision 'Super Saturday... 1-3pm Your Ultimate Abba song with Gary Davies  3-6pm Michelle Visage's Eurovision All Stars 6-8pm Eurovision Request Party with Owain Wynn Evans 8pm Eurovision Grand Final with Scott Mills and Rylan Clark
    • It is funny because everyone thought Matt was on the way out, now he's been described as the heir to Mills.
