Rival Shows

So you came on to a Scott Mills website to ask if we're listening to something else? I have no reason to tune out, Scott has been on his best form for quite a while. If Mills wasn't on I'd probably not be up so early and would leave Moyles to the podcast or iPlayer.

Bit of a dopey question which might be better suited to CM.net perhaps?

Scott's morning shows have been really enjoyable so far; I have been actively trying to wake up earlier than normal to catch them. So no, I shan't be listening to the opposition.

Johnny Vaughn, what are you thinking?

PS. It's heard btw, don't make me correct you again.;)

I sometimes listen to Shaun Keaveny's breakfast show on 6 Music when Moyles is playing crap music, it's actually quite good, he reminds me a bit of Mark Radcliffe (as in Mark and Lard).

So save the last dance

Johhny Vaughn's show is dull dull dull. I have no idea what he's like with Denise now but I heard him once as I was tempted to see what the other stations had to offer. You can't claim superiority if you have no idea what else is out there.

He was so very very dull. Jamie Theakston I've not heard althought again my friends tell me he is boring and very middle of the road. Christian O Connel is about the only one who comes anywhere near close to being good but overall I just prefer Moyles.

That said, Mr Mills has been on TOP form during this holiday and everyone who works on the show deserves a big pat on the back and I'd be more than happy to buy each of them 1 drink. I know how much those people can knock back and I'm not bankrupting myself just because I enjoy the show!

Sometimes here, sometimes not.

I haven't listened to the Capital FM breakfast show since Chris Tarrant was doing it.

I don't really like any other breakfast DJs I've heard. If it's not Scott or Chris Moyles I'll just listen to a station where there's no DJ or the DJ doesn't talk much.

I think the one off's recently with Zane and Mr Tong (surely he's gotta be getting an OBE soon) have been good. A lot better than I imagined. I loved Vernon's Ramble with Tong. I just don't like having to listen to adverts. I've always only ever listened to Radio 1 it's been a constant presence in my life. Local radio never used to say anything about my life. I can connect with Radio 1.

Sometimes here, sometimes not.

Scotts way better than fat man in the morning! Apparantly audience figures go up when Scotts on breakfast (although this is only measured for people who listen on virgin media TV so I don't know how much bearing they have)

Am going to listen to Moyles rival shows tommorow.

See if they are any good?

Will listen to Jamie Theakston

, Jonny & Denise and Christian O Connel.

Anyone heared any of those shows?

He aint called jonny yawn for nothing, If jamie theakston is as dull as he is on televison then you'll be asleep soon after and i've never heard Christian O Connell but doesn't strike mean as entertaining. As stated by Helen, shawn keavney on 6music is quite good although make sure you switch off before george lamb if you value your sanity.

Download the Adam and Joe & Jon Richardson podcasts now!

really, thats quite interesting. normally, in any case where theres any cover, the cover is less popular especially when the format is very different like with scott and chris.

on the other hand, both chris's and scott's formats are quite unique (there arent many other shows like them) therefore, chris's regulars will stick with scott for the two weeks, meanwhile scotts regulars will want to keep listening so they move to breakfast, so the figures add up.

The only time I specifically tune in to another station in when I set my alarm for work on Saturday mornings at 6.30am. I'm not a fan of the music Annie Nightingale plays so I pu Virgin on for the half an hour I take to get ready, then have Nihal on at work. Virgin's weekend breakfast isn't bad to have on in the background.

I also have to get up at 6.30 on Saturdays and the last thing I want to wake up to is dance music :S So I usually end up listening to my iPod before Nihal comes on. Most of the time, however, I have no reason to listen to any rival stations - even the shows I usually complain about are worth listening to. They could be improved (in comparison with other R1 shows) but they are still much better than anything else that might be on at the same time.

    • Yeah they make the weekend shifts go so much quicker. Like today, the piece about Matt falling asleep in the cafe was funny, it's clear to see why they're going to weekdays. It could well be they were thinking of Danny for it and like you say have decided against that, or like I said at the start it's James Cusack and the slow down on the announcement is him getting out of his contract. Remember he works for radio 1's main rivals. I think it's quite telling that he's doing more r1 cover than usual, tomorrow and then a further 3 weekend shows in a row
    • Nat in for Dean with Vicky between the 28th-30th May.
    • I suspect they’re gonna tie the announcement into something, or they’ve changed plans. I know we’ve said it as a joke but I wonder if Aled was planning on giving it to someone like Danny Beard, but he’s decided against that after the last few weeks. Seems clear to me, though, that if Jordan hadn’t left, then Katie would’ve taken Dean and Vicky’s slot and Matt and Mollie would’ve stayed on weekends, which probably explains why they haven’t picked a replacement yet. If it was going to be the obvious choice, I.e. James Cusack, surely they would’ve announced it by now..?
    • Yep think they mentioned that this is their penultimate weekend of shows but then they will also be on air during Big Weekend and they mentioned they'll be doing 'Party Anthems' on stage during Big Weekend which sounds intriguing. Will miss Matt & Mollie on weekends - they in particular have made that Friday afternoon slot their own - but they'll be great on weekdays. Do wonder if 'Summer on Radio 1' is just a placeholder name until they decide on who will cover the interim. While it's obviously not the case it does feel like they've forgotten there's that weekend afternoon slot to fill given no permenant presenter has been announced for it yet.
    • Zoe Ball is back on the breakfast show on Monday.
    • Just listening to matt and mollie at work and heard them say it's their second to last show on weekends
    • And Arielle mentioned in her Instagram post that her final early breakfast show is the 27th of June - the Thursday before Glastonbury
    • When Matt covered breakfast on 22nd April, he said their new show was starting in 10 weeks, so that’d be the 1st July.
    • Would love for it to be like the Summer Friday Thing that me and @DC were remisincing about recently. Lots of events going on that could easily form part of it.  https://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/summer/cardiff/thursday/1.shtml
    • I'm guessing there is also a stack of weekend events like Glastonbury
    • I think more likely it'll just be a temp presenter for weekends 1-4 to give Matt & Mollie time off, plus time to plan and pilot the new show.
    • Yeah I don’t think they’ll be anything that drastic - maybe a week or 2 of cover on early breakfast etc, but maybe just having that weekend afternoon slot covered over the summer means they can put someone on from September who maybe isn’t available until then?
    • But they said the main changes would happen in July.
    • But they said the main changes would happen in July.
    • I wouldn't be surprised if they do this around June time: 05.00 Ore Olukoga 07.00 Greg James 10.30 RMC 14.00 VKJ  That'll probably happen (for my guess) from the 17th June. And for weekends: 07:00 Sam & Danni 11:00 Gregor Davidson 15:00 Charlie Hedges Maybe Fridays aswell: 07:00 Greg James 11:00 Gregor Davidson 14:30 Jack Saunders
