Yeh, case studies is about all I've done so far.

There's an English exam on Friday too, ughh.

Case studies is all you need really ;) the rest is just common sense. I only learned some case studies for my AS last year and I got A's in both of my exams. I'm not sure about A2 though, I dropped Geography after AS. It also depends on your exam board I suppose. Uhhh I hate Geography, good luck!

I'm currently trying to read a chapter of a book about Gentrification. I've been trying to read it for about an hour and not turned the page yet. I think I was asleep for a while, so I've put some music on to keep me awake.

Yeah at GCSE and A level you only need case studies, there isn't really anything more to geography. These days, case studies are few and far between, as my university course seems to be mostly theoretical which isn't hugely interesting.

General studies was a doddle yesterday.

Doesn;t anyone here do German AS? That's my first 'real' written exam, im not counting general studies haha. I have my german on friday.

Yep, I did German. Nearly 100% in all my German AS exams ;) Without any lessons. I can't believe I used to be able to speak German :(

Thanks for the advice! :D

I've got my GG3 exam in 2 hours which is a really, really, silly exam. Why would anyone ever want to do an exam about how someone should do fieldwork. It's hard to revise for too, so I've just been doing Spearman's rank, random sampling, and such.

I had to do that one. My teacher taught us parrot style the exact method for doing Spearman Rank. I managed to get 90/90 in the exam but still couldn't actually do a Spearman Rank, I just knew when to do one and what the steps were to write down. These days the computer does the Spearman Rank for me anyway. Good luck with the exam, if it's a good paper it shouldn't be too hard.

It went much better than I expected. Ironically, everything I revised failed to turn up on the paper. Most of it was common sense, then some graph drawing and isoline drawing too. Was finished within an hour so just kept adding little bits to try for some extra marks.

Now, English is on Friday, fun....

I had my last ever Maths lesson today :( For some reason it really upset me - I loved my Maths lessons and my teacher! At least I did really well in my C4 mock yesterday - only a week left!!! It's never enough time :(

Hooray I've done one exam. It wasn't pleasant, getting up at 7am. I felt like I was writing the same essay 3 times but I tried to make them different and answer the questions in some way, my knowledge was quite limited though.

I've been into town and played pool with my friend, I'm not sure what to do now though. I want to do something exciting but everyone seems to be either revising or doing better things.

Woo! Failed that maths exam today. Missed out 24 marks of a possible 75. Woop woop. I have no idea what happened. I mean, I attempted the questions so I could get a few method marks here and there, but.. just no. It was awful. I actually started crying today at school. Now I know what people mean when they say they find maths hard. I have to do really well on the next module, otherwise I can kiss uni goodbye. Boo.

I hope everyone else had more luck than me.

I had my media teacher peering over my shoulder through most of my exam today (he hates me because I refuse to take his (wrong) advice), most offputting, but I actually got two essays done within the time limit. That's a minor miracle for me as I struggle with writing at an acceptable speed, although I've realised I left out something quite important. Luckily we get the paper back next week (the exam is divided into two) so I can just do it then.

I actually tried on my general studies maths/scientific paper today, it's weird how much I actually remembered from GCSE.

I really hope I do well on my German tomorrow :( It doesn't bother me so much with other exams, it's just harder with only 4 subjects cos you need the grades even more then.

D:

Anyone else got German tomorrow by any chance?

Honestly dont worry about it, university isnt all its cracked up to be either really if I'm being honest. I'm sure you've done fine!!!

Thanks. The thing is I'm going for medicine, so I need all the As I can get, and I don't see it happening in chemistry or biology. If you knew me, you know it's a big thing when I can't do a maths exam with my eyes closed.

I'm surrounded by people on really intense uni courses too, which doesn't help. My sister's doing Architecture and she actually sleeps in her studio. I think I went for one of those degrees which is more work than play. I have 9am lectures every day .

I'm sure it'll be fine once I get in, it's just I don't know if I will.

I remember that last year I was really upset after C1 and I kept telling everyone I failed - it turned out I got an A. I really did think I failed as I missed out some questions/kept getting unlikely results but my method marks must have made up for it. It was a low A, but it was an A!

I know how you're feeling though, about the pressure and everything. I need three A's and it's killing me. I just don't see how I can possibly do it.

I was walking to my exam this morning and halfway there I noticed a massive plume of white smoke. "Hmm" I thought to myself, "I wonder if someone's set fire to the University building where the exam is - that would get me out of doing it" but it turned out it was in a scrap yard near the university. I got to the building the exam was in and saw two police cars and a Scientific Support van outside. Scientific Support = forensics because we had the bloke round after we got burgled. I thought, "maybe they got burgled. Maybe someone stole the computer so I won't have to do the exam..." but the computers were still there and I had to do the exam.

The police were still there when I came out.

Just read this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7403654.stm

Everyone on Facebook is going on about it "OMG TERRORISTS!!!!??!!!" but they've only been arrested on suspicion.

    • Oh boy, if that's the case above then what are they trying to do at r1? If Danny was put into weekend afternoons that's one hell of a faux par and a big nail in the coffin. While ok, Nat and Vicky aren't about to blow the doors off and are only there as the fallout of d&v, but to then follow that up with Danny for 3 days a week. Come on. To go from a place where we had Katie followed by M&M to that. What happened to the prestigiousness of r1? Do they need reminding they've just lost Jordan? It's getting embarrassing. Like I said before, when I had people with 0 interest in radio whatsoever and it was in the background telling me to turn it off, you know it's bad. I saw a random friend from years ago even posting on fb with how has someone like Danny ended up on r1. Everywhere you turn its negative. Doesn't that multiply across the uk in what the r1 audience actually think of this presenter? I'm in the LGBTQ+ community and also r1 target audience but I don't feel I want to listen to this presenter because of that fact. Has some policy actually overtaken the true risk of driving audiences away? The fact is just how @coffeeandgin said, Danny has had chance since March with 2 shows a week and is still not up to the job. The odd podcast yes but certainly not to replace m&m! I've skipped through 10 minutes of this week to make sure I wasn't basing opinions on how it was before and yes it is the same level. When you had presenters like Scott who could keep it fresh despite how many years it had been, but then Danny sounds so out of date already, saying you could tune over to Rylan on r2... but then with a topic of "I want to know what have you missed out on?" I'm sorry?! What kind of local radio is that... it's meant to be radio 1 ffs. Terrible talking points, cringe, unfunny, and so bad on the radio it actually makes it jarring and makes people switch over.
    • I don’t think it will be September it will be a very messy schedule if that’s the case
    • As a member of the LGBTQ+ community my position is exactly yours on female representation.  Yes I want representation but only on merit.   Even if Radio 1 would like more representation from this sector, there are stacks of better options than Danny Beard.
    • I hope you're right! I remember some years ago hearing that the biggest show at a weekend was mid-mornings, but not sure if that's changed with the changing pattern of radio listening in general. Given the best show at the weekend (by a distance) is M&M, would make sense that's now the biggest slot.
    • Someone on here said recently weekend afternoons have a big audience. I think you'd want some of your biggest talent here. Which is why there was talk of a reshuffle. I couldn't personally see Danny in this slot if they decided to keep him.
    • I understand that representation is important. And I can't speak for the LGBTQ+ community. But, as a woman in my mid 30s, I have seen a massive shift towards 'having more women' in every industry/organisation in my lifetime. I have always felt that it should be on merit and capability to carry out a role effectively, rather than just filling a role as a specific gender. Women can be fantastic at everything, but on a personal level I would not want to be hired, for example, as a firefighter  just because I was the only female candidate. I am 5 foot nothing and could not carry you out of a burning building.
    • If they were going to do this, wouldn’t it make more sense to keep Danny at 10.30am and move Nat and Vicky to 1pm? I feel the idea of giving someone a job largely because of their sexuality isn’t particularly good either…
    • Right so prediction time. I think “Summer on Radio 1” which is on the schedule for Friday to Sunday 1-4 from June sticks around longer than the other changes in July. I think that lasts until September which is when we get the new weekend afternoon show. I think they’ll want to give Danny longer on air to see if they improve. I can’t see that happening, so my guess is in September they move Sam & Danni to weekend afternoons (at that point they’ll have been on weekend breakfast for a full year), and they bring James Cusack in to do weekend breakfast.
    • If Aled decides to give Danny a full time role, even as part of a duo / trio, it'll be the most disappointing decision of his tenure. The fact Danny is still on air and hasn't been quietly moved on 'due to a change in plan' is bad enough!
    • I'd say Danny has been given a fair hearing - and hasn't been up to par. You don't want Radio 1 to be a closed shop - but not being able to usually get the Whatsapp number right should be a dealbreaker. Errors happen even to the best DJs at times but if you can't get the Whatsapp number right you really shouldn't have a regular role on the station. But if they really are that desperate to have Danny on the schedule full-time then pair him up with somebody who can actually handle the technical side. You think of all the capable DJs who are in duos and trios and then you have just have a rookie like Danny left solo.  The LGBTQ+ point too I have to say if true as a gay man feels a case of proper discrimination. It's good to have LGBTQ+ representation for sure but the key thing is that the DJ is good at the end of the day and say in 2021 there was loads of LGBTQ+ talent on Radio 1 in Scott, Grimmy and Adele Roberts among others but at the end of the day they were strong DJs entirely there on merit. And even now there's still LGBTQ+ talent on Radio 1 who are there primarily because they're bloody good broadcasters. Danny is not one of them.
    • There is a reason you don't know who is doing weekend afternoons yet. The plan is still to see how Danny Beard's trial goes on weekend mornings. Newspaper clippings have demonstrated Aled has been keen to push Danny Beard at the weekend and to give him a fair hearing. The plan looks to be to wait and see whether he improves in the next few weeks. The bosses still want more LBGTQ+ representation on the station.
    • I think they should just bring that back as was. It's been nearly 20 years, so do it with a whole bunch of new DJ's.
    • I think this year has taught us we know nothing 🙂 Nobody would ever have credibly predicted Jordan leaving and all the changes that followed.   I have another interest outside radio and it is exactly the same - the stuff you never expect to happen is exactly what does.
    • Yeah they make the weekend shifts go so much quicker. Like today, the piece about Matt falling asleep in the cafe was funny, it's clear to see why they're going to weekdays. It could well be they were thinking of Danny for it and like you say have decided against that, or like I said at the start it's James Cusack and the slow down on the announcement is him getting out of his contract. Remember he works for radio 1's main rivals. I think it's quite telling that he's doing more r1 cover than usual, tomorrow and then a further 3 weekend shows in a row
    • Nat in for Dean with Vicky between the 28th-30th May.
