You don't need to be a fan of somebody to hold yourself back from venomous comments.  Whatever people think of Jordan leaving, it isn't Dean's fault.

Exactly. The guy was really thrown into it when Scott left, but there wasn't a backlash like that. I think everyone's just frustrated with the situation that Radio 1 found itself in, and it didn't help itself with the press release and tweets. I don't feel that was aimed at Dean, he just got caught up in it.

I can concur with this as we're stacked at work! Makes me wonder what healthcare Dean is going to when he says doctors!

Yes absolutely. The Jordan leaving situation has absolutely nothing to do with Dean. I think he’s handled taking over from Scott brilliantly to be honest - the hardest slot to replace in my opinion. I’ve really started to enjoy him more on the breakfast show recently too. Just horrible people trying to find somewhere to direct their anger, and he’s caught in the crossfire!

I’ve hardly listened to Dean since he got Scott and Chris’ slot. I was quite impressed when he covered breakfast last week - especially when he played the Wronguns clip back from 2021. He was just so new on the station then, doing Friday Earlies - I wasn’t too struck on him then and he sounded quite brash. But I saw a huge difference on Friday morning and he was really good to listen to. Hope he’s okay.

Yeah I don’t mind Dean at all on his own, I think his Breakfast cover has been pretty listenable when he’s done it and I think he could have done a pretty good content heavy afternoon show on his own.

Unfortunately the Dean and Vicky pairing just isn’t working (and I do like Vicky too, I think she sounds good on her own as well) and the production on that show is very weak which just ends up with a very poor afternoon show currently.

Don't know what's been said on his socials but if it's bad enough to make him come off air (if that's the truth). Then nothing can justify that. I know you put yourself in the limelight being on Radio 1, and to a degree have to have thick skin. But some of the things that get said are way way overboard. I know it's the 30 odd year old bloke, old man thing to say. But in a lot of ways things were better years ago. Social media has many great points, but also comes with too many negatives.

I've seen even the older generation use it against Scott when he moved to Radio 2 as I've said before. Bottom line is these are people going to work and doing a job, if they aren't for you switch off and find something else.

I agree completely! Some of the comments on the Instagram posts are very OTT and unnecessary.
