That's what I was thinking. Surely, Scott's show, with prank calls, immature humour and all that, appeals to younger audiences than what Greg does? Innuendo Bingo, the Tap End, all the banter with Chris and Beccy, those bits surely attract teenagers/students rather than more grown up people? Contrary to Greg, who hasn't really much going on on his show that might attract younger audiences.

It really does, Greg's show always seems boring and like there's nothing much going on. With Scott, you've got all the features like Innuendo Bingo, and Tap End etc...

I REALLY want Annie Mac and Nick Grimshaw to co-host a show together, hopefully 1-4 eventually. I dont know why this hasnt ever happened.

I'd love them to do a weekday show together too, but I guess it's because Annie Mac wouldn't be able to commit to a five day a week radio show all year round due to her other commitments. She's always touring the UK, she had a weekly gig in Ibiza last year and goes off to do shows in the states 2/3 times a year. Also she'd have to get Fridays off from the weekday show to do her dance show, which is clearly her passion and the main reason she's on Radio 1.

Oh, shut up. All the daytime presenters at 1Xtra are good. Twin B and Trevor Nelson are fine, but Gemma will be brilliant on weekend breakfast

1) don't EVER tell me to shut up again newbie. Come back when you've been here a while and I might, just might, be a little more tolerant of you.

2) you are wrong, they're not good

3) Weekend breakfast hasn't been good since Nihal used to do it.

we must all think the same as one user here. *rolls eyes*

Still really not seeing what people's big problem with Fearne is... She's in her ideal slot now really and won't be getting breakfast, quit assuming she will anytime soon.

What's going to happen when Gregs show is on at 4 and doesn't get as many listeners as Scott's show used to get? Will they get swapped back, or will they just stay at the times they have been moved to?

The whole lot of this is gonna end in disaster. In fact, I predict it will go down in R1 history.... nothing ever changes. The youth obsessions were there in the 80s, and they are still there today.

I have a feeling that moving Greg to the drivetime show pretty much guarantees he will maintain a high listenership. Most people won't change station because of it, so it will essentially be "Greg James adds 2 million listeners in his new slot" or whatever...

Greg will be up against Simon Mayo. They both don't appeal to young audiences, so you might as well listen to the real professional. Seriously, Scott's show provides a stark contrast to Simon Mayo. Megalolz and all that. Greg does boring average radio with almost no wit at all. Why would you want to listen to that?

I like Mayo. He's not really an entertainer, but a good radio presenter nevertheless. Especially if you take in mind that he's at Radio 2, where listeners expect different things from presenters than at Radio 1.

That said, Viv, wait 4 weeks and another un-entertainer will do a drivetime show on national radio. I'm amazed that anyone ever really considered putting him there (but I'm sure you know that already ;))

I got a response back from the BBC regarding my complaint about the shift change.

Thanks for contacting us regarding Radio 1’s ‘Scott Mills’.

We note you’re unhappy at the forthcoming schedule changes to Radio 1, with ‘Scott Mills’ moving to weekdays 1-4pm and Greg James taking weekdays 4-7pm.

As Radio 1 Controller, Ben Cooper, said:

"These are exciting times at Radio 1 & 1Xtra. The latest changes are about attracting even more young listeners by bringing in new and fresh talent to the stations. At the end of last year we announced changes to the specialist music line-up, so I’m really looking forward to hearing the new line up in full when we launch in April."

The new schedule will come into effect from Monday 2 April 2012.

While we appreciate that some listeners will not appreciate change we do regularly update our programme mix to keep things fresh and to allow new programmes to come through. We realise that this may mean that certain programmes which are still appreciated by the audience may be moved or taken off air but we hope that this enables new programmes to develop and eventually prove as enjoyable to the audience.

I hope this information is helpful and would also like to assure you that we've registered your views on our audience log. This is the internal report of audience feedback we compile daily for all programme makers, commissioning executives, and senior management within the BBC. The audience logs are important documents that can help shape decisions about future programming and content and ensures that your points, and all other comments we receive, are made available to BBC staff across the Corporation.

Thanks again for contacting us.

Kind Regards

Stuart W***

Extra points to the BBC for responding so promptly, even on a Saturday! That said, they didn't really say anything I didn't already know. However, the last paragraph makes it seem worthwhile to submit feedback. That is of course providing others do the same.

Good for you, writing in. Aled was commenting on logs a while back. Think everybody at bbc can read them. they are nicer than the trust. They sent me an awful letter. thing is here, it is ultimately the trust who are behind all this "yoof" stuff. Not even ben cooper.

The ONLY part of Gregs show I like is the 10 minute takeover. I will not be listening to Gregs show. I don't care if it doesn't do any damage to his listening audience. I have never liked Gregs show. I refuse to listen.

Don't blame him if you're texting in for her newer stuff. *coff*

Oh I also liked Mayo's confessions, but can't remember much else about his old non-movie review shows.

I like the loveable mischief from Scott. The naughty giggling schoolboy approach. That appeals greatly. His relationship with Becky is terrific.

The Gregs and Feanes may be comfortable enough to do that one day but, gah Scotts doing it right now. Why not carry on?

I know everyones got to finish somewhere and even I remember hearing Scott as a pre mischief bland plain Jane DJ but id rather these finally bloomed succesful DJs just leave their slots when they are ready to move on rather than forced out. I dont expect Scotts current age to be anywhere near an age to cause concern to a radio station.

Here's the response I got:

Thanks for your comments regarding the changes to BBC Radio 1’s schedule and our DJ line-up.

We work hard to try to provide a wide range of programmes for our audience, but do appreciate schedule changes can result in some people being disappointed or upset when their favourite DJs move.

The BBC Trust, whose job is to represent the views of licence fee payers, have challenged BBC Radio 1 to ensure we continue attracting young listeners and the station has always looked to evolve with our audience.

Developing new DJ talent is a key part of this and we believe the changes to the schedule will ultimately strengthen the overall range and depth of our specialist music offering. There will be new programmes for Skream & Benga, Toddla T, Charlie Sloth and Friction; and we will also introduce another four new presenters to the station in early 2012 as part of the In New DJs We Trust show.

We hope that this explains some of our thinking regarding the changes. We’re sorry you’re not happy with them, but hope you will at least give the new presenters a chance once they start in April 2012 before making a final decision about them.

Yours sincerely

BBC Radio 1

    • Tara Kumar is in for Alyx on Sunday 13th July.
    • Conor Knight & Lauren Layfield are in for Matt & Mollie on Monday 14th July.  Matt is solo on Tuesday 15th July.  Jerry is in for Mollie between Wednesday 16th & Thursday 24th July.  Maia Beth is covering Future Pop on Wednesday 16th & Wednesday 23rd July. On Sunday 27th July the Chillest Show is reduced to an hour, and 20.00-21.00 is a BBC Proms special with JADE. On Thursday 31st July 18.00-20.00 in place of Jack's show it's the Dance Party Warm-Up with Danny Howard (ahead of the Ibiza weekend).
    • Dean McCullough in for Greg w/c 4th August. James Cusack on EB.
    • Well looks like Mollie is off all month now so presumably a personal matter.
    • Intrigued why Matt & Mollie aren't presenting breakfast on Monday, with James in for them instead (which has happened before).. or even James given a chance to present the breakfast show?
    • Sam & Danni seem to be down for Breakfast on Monday. James Cusack on Going Home. That’s another new name in the list of “people who have hosted Going Home in 2025”.
    • Wednesday, surely? But this is another mess, as this weeks Summer press release said it’ll be Sam & Danni no Jamie from the 28th - so it’s actually a whole week earlier!
    • Jamie Laing’s last show before his summer break will be on Wednesday 16th July.
    • I worked out once Scott spent 3 months of a year off his own slot in the Moyles days and more like 4 in Grimmys days, six weeks of his own holiday and projects, six covering Grimmy plus some ad hoc days
    • Back on topic, I think there's quite a few of the current Radio 1 presenters who would be able to adapt to Radio 2's style in the future. It's more of question of how many of them will actually end up there. With much of R2's line up changed over the past couple of years, it's quite possible we won't see much movement there, and R2 management might even decide to look elsewhere to bring in new presenters in future.
    • With OJ covering on bank holidays. She is the best person for the job however... they're going to end up with a situation like Scott covering R1 breakfast back in the day, where she spends quite a bit of time off her own slot covering Breakfast, plus her own holiday and other commitments. She's been filming for something recently which has meant she's been off several days a week since May. She was off last week, on breakfast this week, OJ is on Mon/Tues next week, then She's off the following two weeks.
    • Looking back at this I would say now that Sara is the main cover - I think she has been reestablished as it now
    • Purley on the R1 Dance station.. Someone on DS said don't expect to see any changes to the schedule on the new stations however if they are taking on Capital Dance with this, which they clearly are, which has live presenters 7am - 10pm except for the 11am mix then they'll surely have to have a proper scheduled set of shows. At the moment Arielle is the only "live" per say show and only "live" a few days a week with earlier shows being repeated Thursday Friday and Saturday. Connor and Charlie are clearly pre records but was this only for the time it was online only and they have already got a schedule ready to go on day 1? also of note is that Charlie is taking over a podcast as well as starting a new project with podcasting which makes me wonder if she is about to step back from Dance Anthems all together to concentrate on those and Connor takes over? So you could have Arielle doing 9-12 weekdays live then someone else 12-3 and Connor live 3-6 on R1D and doing Dance Anthems on a Saturday.
    • As none of the Going Home Team aren't currently on the air, that's a bit if an issue. Considering most of the Dance DJs will be out there, I'm surprised none of them are being utilised to host the 1-4 slot that weekend.
    • Going Home presenters have done the last few years ?
