The new Film 2010 presenter is...

Chippy

just listening to an interview with her now on 5Live, she says they're not looking to change the timeslot, but that it may be a slight change in format as she'll have other crtics on and stuff, definitely can't say that was expected, though on Friday's Wittertainment (5Live's film show) Mark Kermode had a small rant saying he WASN'T going to be presenting it and in a way wouldn't WANT to because his opinions are mainstream enough (stuff like he hated Avatar and champions small movies). Would be nice to see him in one of the guest critic spots though, as he does good work on things like The Culture Show on TV and the man talks a lot of sense.

Simply an observation, but I just find it interesting that Barry Norman, Johnathan Ross and Claudia Winkleman are all Jewish and either hail from, or live in North London. That's all.

I reckon she'll do a really good job on Film 2010, but hope she drops a little of her ditzy 'Strictly' personality.

It will be interesting.

Apologies. Chippy appears to be be correct, but take one look at his wife Jane and tell me she doesn't have any say in how the family's religious affairs are in order/connections. Scary, formidable, impressive woman. She is certainly someone I look up to.

The North London thing is because North London is popular with wealthy/media/wealthy media people. Edith and Moyles live their, too.

so the dumbing down of the BBC continues, nothing against Claudia, but she is/was terrible on the Oscars program she does/did for Sky the last few years, never had her down as any sort of movie fan either, the Oscars show she fluffed her way through getting actors names wrong & movies they were in, she is TO much of a presenter who just presents programs, she has no in-depth interest or knowledge of the subject other than she is doing a show about it, so god knows what the reviews will be like, anything that is style over substance will be the best thing ever (amazin  )

why didn't they choose someone who actually likes movies :( slowly starting to get pissed off with the BBC now !

Seriously, do a listen again to Richard Bacon's 5Live show from Monday. They had an interview with her... she said she wasn't interested as much in doing stuff like Strictly Boring and wanted to do something to do with movies for a long time. She admits there are areas/genres she's not strong on, but you are completely wrong in saying she has no interest or knowledge. She even lives pretty much next to an Odeon and goes to it regularly.

Don't base a judgement on stuff she's done before when she's not really been given chance to do stuff about films before.

Also, weren't half of Wossy's reviews basically that anything that's style over substance is the best thing ever? Last time I remember seeing anything otherwise was when Bazza Norman was still doing Film, for serious reviews that aren't just mainstream, you need to watch Kermode's segments on The Culture Show instead.

just because someone likes movies doesn't mean they can critique them or review them for people who will have to pay to go & watch movies, just like all them football fans who think that they are better managers than their teams current one, also what i did find interesting is this bit ;

"And also, just so people don't panic, it's not just me, because that would be horrifying. So it will be brilliant critics and all kinds of people sharing their knowledge, because I'm rubbish on horror."

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8593066.stm

so it seems that she won't be reviewing movies then, other critics will be doing that then, meaning that you will never truly know how good a movie is as it takes time to get to know & read between the lines of what certain reviewers think, she is to much of a fan by the sounds of it & everything will be "amazing" & "fantastic", i don't have a problem with Claudia it's just that she is just a presenter nothing more, them Oscar shows she does are terrible this year more so than last in fact, so what she lives next door to a cinema, Wossy has one in his house, as for Wossy & style over substance, well everyone knows he is a huge comic book fan so you take this on board when he reviews something, just in the same was with James King & his love of horror films, Kermode & his love of French black & white movies :P

as i said in my letter to the BBC head of programing it would be good to have a female on the show as female audience figures are on the rise but having a lone female on the show will put males off , a lot of them (i think) there are loads of movie review sites & other critics so movie fans will go elsewhere, simple as that thus the viewing figures will plummet.

its basically sounding just like a chat show with guests & insiders from the movie world spieling off the latest gossip.

Umm I was replying to your quote where you say she had no INTEREST in movies... given the above statement, that is CLEARLY not true, and let's leave critiquing her ability to review until we've SEEN her doing it, eh? ;)

I never claimed she would be good at reviewing. I doubt Edith Bowman, good as she is, could do better and saying Claudia won't be doing ANY reviews is just ludicrous, but she does admit there's genres where she will leave the reviews up to others...

... Really?

well yeah, i think it will, most men won't take a woman's advice or opinion of a movie seriously, i could be wrong though, however most of the comments on various newspaper sites & movie sites are not liking her appointment :/

aww come on Jono, everyone knows you love a bit of the Bowman ;)

My female A Level Film and Cinematography teacher who has a Honours Degree in Film Studies would beg to differ.

well at least she knows something about movies, unlike Winkelman.

all i'm saying is that i think the viewing figures will fall because of her gender, the majority of people are not liking the decision, i really don't care to much because i very much doubt i will watch it, nothing wrong with Winkelman but i would rather have someone other than a general tv presenter reviewing movies on the bbc's flagship movie show, there again maybe men will like to see Winkelman on the show acting her usually flirtatious self so that can crack one off whilst listening to her being random about the latest rom-com & the figures will go up.

:)

    • They seem to be using James more for cover now makes me think it will be him getting weekends eitjer breakfast or 1 till 4
    • Yep am very much Capital Breakfast now. Jordan, Chris and Sian are a great trio and it's got that feel of the old shows Jordan and Chris used to do on Radio 1. It doesn't take itself too seriously but is packed full of content and slick. With Greg he's great but 6 years in you've probably heard it all before plus frankly I can sit through the Capital Playlist a lot more easily than the Radio 1 playlist (where some of the inclusions and omissions can be quite baffling at times). Plus after things like the Oscars or Met Gala or if there's a particularly big TV show or film or popstar then Greg won't half wang on about it at times. I guess it's partly to be expected with it being a Breakfast show on a young station but it can feel very London bubble and get tired.
    • Ore Olukoga is in for Arielle on Tuesday 14th May. James Cusack is in for Danny Beard on Saturday 1st June. James Cusack is in for Nat on Sunday 2nd June.
    • I honestly never thought in a million years I’d move from Radio 1 to be a regular Capital breakfast show listener. But it’s got pretty much everything I want - 3 really genuine, entertaining mates having a laugh, playing silly games and it all sounds great. I became a big fan of Chris from his days with Scott, became a Jordan fan on Going Home, and Sian Welby is newer to me but is loads of fun too.  It’s great and I’ve shocked myself by transferring my listening at breakfast. For me Greg’s show now feels very tired and it’s time for something new. But with Jordan gone that’s unlikely to happen anytime soon. Greg’s had a great run and I’m a fan - but there’s no new ideas now. I still listen to Radio 1 at other times - but this show feels like very serious competition for Greg.
    • They have built four new studios to increase capacity, alongside the existing six.  Bearing in mind that some of the output of R1, 1X, R2 & 6M comes from elsewhere, and Asian Network is gradually moving all output to Birmingham, this should be enough!
    • How do they manage to cater for 6Music and Radio 2 on that floor? Did they adapt it?
    • I think we've all figured out now how much you like it @AndyK77 😂 Personally while I think it's by far the best show on the Capital schedule and better than its predecessor, it still has the shortened songs and other commercial-radio aspects that remind me why I'm a Radio 1 fan. No matter how well this has worked out for Jordan, and all credit to him for landing the job, I can't help but feel that a Jordan and Katie show on R1 breakfast would have been so much better!
    • A few weeks in and I am actually loving the show and Jordan is a nice mix of his old chaotic self and dare I say it a slick jock.
    • He must be in his element. At Eurovision and a Gold award!
    • I really like Rylan, and as much of a fun idea it would be to have Scott and Rylan together, I think Rylan is too much of a main character.  Scott needs a side-kick rather than a full on co-host I think. That’s why he and Chris worked so well, Scott steered the show, and Chris was the perfect person to have alongside him.    I don’t religiously listen to Rylan’s show, but when I do catch it, it’s perfect weekend energy. He has a very warm presenting style too, but something makes me think he and Scott together every day would be a bit too much.
    • So pleased for Scott on his best entertainment show win. As much as I miss his R1 style, he clearly puts so much into his shows, well deserved and it’s a big two fingers up to all the abuse he has had since joining R2
    • There are a lot that share your sentiments. People have made comparisons to the different takes to Ukraine.
    • It's a big 'No' from me (Israel-Palestine). No further comments.
    • A joke about pirates: ‘but we’re not jumping ship, like someone else’
    • I felt it was much better with the staging and everything.  I still cannot warm to his voice but he's a very good performer. Ireland was everything though.
