Dirty Dancing film star Patrick Swayze has died aged 57, his publicist says.

Annett Wolf said that the US actor, who had been battling pancreatic cancer for nearly two years, died with family at his side on Monday.

Swayze was diagnosed with advanced stage four pancreatic cancer in January last year.

The actor had been starring in US TV show The Beast since being diagnosed with the disease. He had also planned to write a memoir with his wife.

he was more of a womans actor, most of his films were aimed towards them. however there's no doubt that he was a talent, shame he's gone. but he was a chain smoker, he even admitted himself.

Very sad news. Patrick Swayze was part of my youth. Dirty Dancing (I love this particular dance:

) and Ghost for us shortly.

RIP Patrick Swayze. You have gone too young and shall be sadly missed.

That is so sad news. We probably all expected it to happen soon, because he was so ill, but that doesn't make it less sad. At least now he won't be in pain anymore.

If they don't show Dirty Dancing on Danish TV this Saturday, I am definitely going to watch it on DVD anyway.
