It would be helpful if we knew how many tickets are going to be available on the day and how many each person will be able to buy? If we could buy 2 each then it might mean we could get some for Goldengirl and her friend too. I can only really go during the day on the Tuesday or Wednesday but Tuesday ideally. I can go any night though.

Awww, what a lovely thought :) Thank-you for thinking of me. I bet there is a limit tho the same as the online application :(

You never know, maybe Scott has a secret 20 or so stashed away for UM  we can but hope! Fingers crossed.

There's some bitter people on here, Viv.

I'm not bitter. A bit gutted about not getting to go when it is almost on my doorstep but like everyone else I will watch online and look forward to hearing all about it from those that have been lucky enough to get tickets.

Tricky situation! Technically they weren't giving tickets away on a competition and it does seem like with regards to giving them out in Edinburgh will be random so in that respect it's difficult to see why they didn't reserve some tickets for the fansite. (They did, after all, launch the talk of musicals here with the Rick Rolling poster). But what makes a fansite any more deserving over the listeners? And maybe it also a highlights a decline in popularity between Unofficial Mills with the programme.

I also agree that UM shouldn't necessarily be given preference over Radio 1 listeners when it comes to tickets. Was just a bit upset that some of the regulars didn't get them. That's all. I'd personally been planning to watch it online anyway.

I have a suggestion. Shall we all quit being grumpy and talking about tickets now, and look forward to seeing it online? Hmm? Just a thought.

Seriously, I think you will be able to buy 2 each. I'm definitely going to go to the ticket booth very early in the morning so that I get tickets, Mr Kiz is coming too and so is aloha_chicko so between us we should be able to get 6 tickets. If anyone can't go down during the day I'll be happy to get tickets for them, just let me know if you're interested.

Also, if anyone else has tickets or is planning to go on the 11th it would be good to meet up before the show. I'm thinking geekworld banners.....hee hee.:hahaha:

Yipeeee can't wait!!!

If you don't mind that would be fantastic!! :D Assuming we can all get tickets my friend & I would just be heading thru after work but I'm definitely up for a mini geekworld meet up :)

No, really, Jugs!! :hahaha:

Jo, I wasn't talking about you, I was talking about those who seem to think that belonging to a fansite should afford them preferential treatment over other fans.

'But what makes a fansite any more deserving over the listeners?' Exactly.

I think you may be missing the point, Jugs. There is a key point. I believe someone off this Site was told there would be tickets for the UMs, then it simply didn't happen. Hence, this topic got done up!! First come, first served - OK, fair enough... such is life ... but, there is a difference between telling someone one thing, then doing the opposite.

OK, there's loads of musical fans out there, that aren't registered. But it's that thing, the same as the Big Weekend, where loads of people who don't even know what a Big Weekend is randomly wind up going. There's where I think R1 should take a harder look at ticket allocations.

O, and incidentally, Jugs, I wasn't even on-line on Monday at 4:30 , and had made no attempt whatsoever to obtain tickets!! :-) I'd already posted elsewhere about not wanting all the accommodation hassles!! What I did expect to see, when I logged on on Tuesday, was far more members sitting with tickets.

As to "logic", Hammer ... well, it's "Viv Logic" - nice & simple.

And maybe it also a highlights a decline in popularity between Unofficial Mills with the programme.

Is that why this Site has been mentioned on 2 occasions this week, and today's show isn't even on yet. That's smashing, btw!! :-)

I agree it would have been a nice gesture for those that have followed it with interest talking about it but shit happens :)

It still needs questioned though. Why not, after all. Not all forum feedback is gonna be positive, and all roses-round-the-door. I thought the team's attitude was pish, and I still do. Simple as.

I have a suggestion. Shall we all quit being grumpy and talking about tickets now, and look forward to seeing it online? Hmm? Just a thought.

Great idea, Nati !! :-) I'll watch it with some popcorn!!

maybe we should boycott the show for a week mob.gif

So... they'll only have 4,990,000 listeners then!! :hahaha::P

ps: Still looking forward to viewing stuff on-line!! :-) Hate to be so harsh to my favourite radio station, but I still think I've got a point!! :-)

Read through all the comments here and I have to agree with Viv, I'm pretty sure something was mentioned about an allocation of tickets to UM, but then we wouldn't here discussing the lack of tickets and we'd be arguing over who on here deserves them the most.

Baring in mind that I also didn't even attempt to get tickets because there was no way I'd be able to afford to get to Edinburgh or stay there the night, so I'm going to cosy up with a cup of tea and watch it from the comfort of my own home.

Hope everyone who did get tickets ruddy enjoys it and represents the whole of UM by clapping really loudly at the end :-)

OK. That is fair, but it also isn't, as it was indicated to a member that there would be some tickets for UM. It just depends on how you look at this. Once again, I wish people would read things through properly.

Emma C has a point though that there would have been fights over who should have got the tickets off of here.

    • As a member of the LGBTQ+ community my position is exactly yours on female representation.  Yes I want representation but only on merit.   Even if Radio 1 would like more representation from this sector, there are stacks of better options than Danny Beard.
    • I hope you're right! I remember some years ago hearing that the biggest show at a weekend was mid-mornings, but not sure if that's changed with the changing pattern of radio listening in general. Given the best show at the weekend (by a distance) is M&M, would make sense that's now the biggest slot.
    • Someone on here said recently weekend afternoons have a big audience. I think you'd want some of your biggest talent here. Which is why there was talk of a reshuffle. I couldn't personally see Danny in this slot if they decided to keep him.
    • I understand that representation is important. And I can't speak for the LGBTQ+ community. But, as a woman in my mid 30s, I have seen a massive shift towards 'having more women' in every industry/organisation in my lifetime. I have always felt that it should be on merit and capability to carry out a role effectively, rather than just filling a role as a specific gender. Women can be fantastic at everything, but on a personal level I would not want to be hired, for example, as a firefighter  just because I was the only female candidate. I am 5 foot nothing and could not carry you out of a burning building.
    • If they were going to do this, wouldn’t it make more sense to keep Danny at 10.30am and move Nat and Vicky to 1pm? I feel the idea of giving someone a job largely because of their sexuality isn’t particularly good either…
    • Right so prediction time. I think “Summer on Radio 1” which is on the schedule for Friday to Sunday 1-4 from June sticks around longer than the other changes in July. I think that lasts until September which is when we get the new weekend afternoon show. I think they’ll want to give Danny longer on air to see if they improve. I can’t see that happening, so my guess is in September they move Sam & Danni to weekend afternoons (at that point they’ll have been on weekend breakfast for a full year), and they bring James Cusack in to do weekend breakfast.
    • If Aled decides to give Danny a full time role, even as part of a duo / trio, it'll be the most disappointing decision of his tenure. The fact Danny is still on air and hasn't been quietly moved on 'due to a change in plan' is bad enough!
    • I'd say Danny has been given a fair hearing - and hasn't been up to par. You don't want Radio 1 to be a closed shop - but not being able to usually get the Whatsapp number right should be a dealbreaker. Errors happen even to the best DJs at times but if you can't get the Whatsapp number right you really shouldn't have a regular role on the station. But if they really are that desperate to have Danny on the schedule full-time then pair him up with somebody who can actually handle the technical side. You think of all the capable DJs who are in duos and trios and then you have just have a rookie like Danny left solo.  The LGBTQ+ point too I have to say if true as a gay man feels a case of proper discrimination. It's good to have LGBTQ+ representation for sure but the key thing is that the DJ is good at the end of the day and say in 2021 there was loads of LGBTQ+ talent on Radio 1 in Scott, Grimmy and Adele Roberts among others but at the end of the day they were strong DJs entirely there on merit. And even now there's still LGBTQ+ talent on Radio 1 who are there primarily because they're bloody good broadcasters. Danny is not one of them.
    • There is a reason you don't know who is doing weekend afternoons yet. The plan is still to see how Danny Beard's trial goes on weekend mornings. Newspaper clippings have demonstrated Aled has been keen to push Danny Beard at the weekend and to give him a fair hearing. The plan looks to be to wait and see whether he improves in the next few weeks. The bosses still want more LBGTQ+ representation on the station.
    • I think they should just bring that back as was. It's been nearly 20 years, so do it with a whole bunch of new DJ's.
    • I think this year has taught us we know nothing 🙂 Nobody would ever have credibly predicted Jordan leaving and all the changes that followed.   I have another interest outside radio and it is exactly the same - the stuff you never expect to happen is exactly what does.
    • Yeah they make the weekend shifts go so much quicker. Like today, the piece about Matt falling asleep in the cafe was funny, it's clear to see why they're going to weekdays. It could well be they were thinking of Danny for it and like you say have decided against that, or like I said at the start it's James Cusack and the slow down on the announcement is him getting out of his contract. Remember he works for radio 1's main rivals. I think it's quite telling that he's doing more r1 cover than usual, tomorrow and then a further 3 weekend shows in a row
    • Nat in for Dean with Vicky between the 28th-30th May.
    • I suspect they’re gonna tie the announcement into something, or they’ve changed plans. I know we’ve said it as a joke but I wonder if Aled was planning on giving it to someone like Danny Beard, but he’s decided against that after the last few weeks. Seems clear to me, though, that if Jordan hadn’t left, then Katie would’ve taken Dean and Vicky’s slot and Matt and Mollie would’ve stayed on weekends, which probably explains why they haven’t picked a replacement yet. If it was going to be the obvious choice, I.e. James Cusack, surely they would’ve announced it by now..?
    • Yep think they mentioned that this is their penultimate weekend of shows but then they will also be on air during Big Weekend and they mentioned they'll be doing 'Party Anthems' on stage during Big Weekend which sounds intriguing. Will miss Matt & Mollie on weekends - they in particular have made that Friday afternoon slot their own - but they'll be great on weekdays. Do wonder if 'Summer on Radio 1' is just a placeholder name until they decide on who will cover the interim. While it's obviously not the case it does feel like they've forgotten there's that weekend afternoon slot to fill given no permenant presenter has been announced for it yet.
