Radio 1 Predictions For 2009

Anyone have any predictions for 2009? Let's be serious here, please don't all post that Mills will take over breakfast.

I think 2009 will mark the end of Moyles of breakfast though, I can see him moving to Capital or Absolute (for a disgusting amount of money) or only doing television. I also think Radio 1 will say goodbye to Jo Whiley, maybe even Edith Bowman.

moyles will stop on the radio 1 breakfast show and scott will stop where he is. edith will probably go to weekends, because let's be honest. with all due respect to her i think radio 1 need something more that just a girl on her own for 3 hours and spending lots of time talking about films.

on the grid.

I dont think there will be too many changes to Radio 1 because the station is sounding the best it ever has done, has a stronge line up (most of the time) and also has great audience figures.

I think there will be a small change in the daytime line-up which could see (hopefully) Jo Whiley move, she may start doing specials. I also think think that Zane could finish up. I dont think that Moyles will go just yet and think that Scott will stay where he is - i dont think he is breakfast material yet. Hopefully people like Nihal will be moved from Weekends and Chappers and Dave may get more shifts (but i have a feeling they wont).

I wouldent be surprised to see a new sound to radio 1, new voiceovers, perhaps an extended playlist and no doubt some more events aimed at BBC Switchs audience.

radio 1 is killing off dance music all together from the station i think, jules will be moving to galaxy sadly too. the problem is i am in radio 1's target audience, and bbc switch with "grimmy" (whoever he is) dosen't do it for me like dance anthems did. they have two brilliant presenters in mills and moyles, but don't be suprised if they manage to screw something up there. breakfast and drive are perfect as they are, they just need to get something on inbetween them. becuase the most whiley and bowman are, is a background noise in a factory.

on the grid.

I think there will be more switch and switch events (like switch live) because of the target audience being too high issue. I don't think (I hope they don't anyway) they'll change the daytime schedule, it's amazing how it is.

Not so much a prediction as a hope, but I'm crossing my fingers for a shake-up with new presenters. I'd like to see the non-radio people used only for their looks and name (Fearne, Kelly O, etc) gone, and an influx of new talent from commercial or student radio. They went to the well and found Greg, so I don't understand why they can't plant a couple more seeds for the future with DJs who have a radio background and aspirations of big radio careers (as opposed to treating it as a side gig). Once Chris leaves, they'll have Scott on breakfast and Greg on drive and they'll need a new early morning presenter and a few new weekenders to groom for future roles. Edith and co are too specialist - they need more general presenters and TV isn't the way to find them.

The only thing is I expect is a few more pregnant women and perhaps a slight reshuffle when Jo Whiley returns. I personally don't believe Sara Cox will do just a Sunday.

It will be a crime if she does. Waste of one of their best DJ's.

Not my predictions but what i want to see-

Colin & Edith team up at weeknights.

Greg gets 1-4 slot.

I don't think it will happen but would love it if it did.

I hope it stays where it is, but I can't see that see that happening. Moyles has been doing breakfast for about 5 years now, and if you look at the past breakfast dj's only a few make it past 4. I think Sarah Cox ull get pulled into the week, but I couldn't predict what jo whiley and edith bowman will do.

You have to keep in mind that it seems Radio 1 is getting too old for the BBC's standards. And one of the ways to make things younger is to get rid of older presenters, namely Moyles, Mills, Whiley and Cox.

You think Parfitt should be following Bannister's style then?

Some argued that killed off the golden days of Radio 1 but it did mean Radio 1 went on to perform very well.

I think if the older DJs were axed I'd probably tune out of Radio 1 though.

I think Moyles knows the risk of the breakfast show - you can hear him telling his team they're not being 'target' or whatever at times, and with the 'new sound' they're going for with changes for 2009 that Aled's been working on, you can tell they're not playing it safe.

I'd like to see Greg move to a more... well, listenable slot, but if Moyles leaves breakfast and Scott takes it like is predicted, but the right 'team' is important. Not just Producer Neil, but I mean on air characters, which make regular drivetime and breakfast shows fresh and entertaining for long periods of time. Moyles and Mills do that very well.

I hope Moyles leaves because I think he's a bit of a plank.

If Mills leaves, there will be hell on...Unite UM Geeks!

I hope Whiley gets moved to another slot because she annoys me...Sorry Jo!

I think Radio 1's doing pretty well at the moment. For me it's great because I hardly ever get to listen to Jo or Moyles so I'm pretty happy with how it is, but Greg should be moved, He's a good presenter :)

Well I think we can all agree that if either Moyles or Mills left Radio 1, but still wanted to stay in radio, they would land top jobs somewhere else. I think Mills would work on Capital, as much as I despise myself for saying that. Maybe he could return to good ol' Power FM and present Breakfast!

I don't turn the radio on to hear someone ramble about what they did last night for a few hours.

Well alot of us/people do. Its what makes him differant. With there attitude it grabs you into the show and you sometimes feel like you where actually part of that situation. Personally i dont tune in for the music at all.

I dont think Moyles will finish this year but also dont think Scott would get breakfast if Moyles did leave. Capital is trying to rebuild its brand and has a new line-up from March 09 so perhaps Mills may decide to take up breakfast there? Who knows......
